2. Introduction
 With an extensive background in radiation oncology, Aaron O.
Williams, MD, founded Athens Cancer Center in 2006 to provide
patients with personalized and compassionate care. Aaron O.
Williams, MD, also conducts presentations on radiation
oncology and is a member of the American Society for
Therapeutic Radiology & Oncology (ASTRO).
ASTRO recently announced that it presented $675,000 in grants
and awards to seven physician-researchers dedicated to
advancing the field of radiation oncology. ASTRO’s chair
explains that the organization continually works to support and
fund new medical graduates through its three award categories,
including the ASTRO Residents/Fellows in Radiation Oncology
Research Seed Award and the ASTRO Junior Faculty Career
Research Training Award.

3. Radiation Oncology
 In 2015, the grants will finance work in radiation
physics, comparative effectiveness research,
translational research, outcomes/health services
research, and radiation and cancer biology.
The award winners are carefully chosen by the
organization’s Research Grants Evaluation Committee
and then accepted by ASTRO’s board of directors.
Over the course of their projects, the researchers are
also required to present a midterm and final report to
ASTRO.
