CHOC was one of only three children's hospitals to receive the 2017 HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award, which recognizes hospitals that have improved patient care and reduced costs through applying information technology solutions. CHOC made substantial investments in developing an electronic health record system to support quality care and patient safety, which though difficult and expensive, were deemed worthwhile as the EHR is improving children's lives.

2. Introduction
• Christopher (Chris) Throgmorton graduated from Arizona
State University in Tempe with a BA in business/political
science. Currently employed at Amgen in Thousand Oaks,
California, Chris Michael Throgmorton donates to the
Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).
In January of 2017, CHOC became only the third children’s
hospital in the nation to receive the Healthcare Information
and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Enterprise
Davies Award. The award was created in 1994, and is given
out annually to a hospital that has improved its patient care
and reduced costs by applying information technology
solutions.

3. Children's Hospital of Orange County
• As the winner of the 2016 award, CHOC’s success will
be showcased for the benefit of other hospitals.
According to the chief quality officer, Dr. James
Cappon, CHOC’s substantial investments in developing
an electronic health record (EHR) were structured to
support the hospital's biggest priorities, quality care
and patient safety.
While developing the EHR system was neither easy nor
cheap, Dr. Cappon is satisfied the investments were
worthwhile. The EHR is improving children’s lives, and
the HIMSS honored them for the effort.
