of the Soviet spacecraft Sputnik

from overheating, possibly
caused by a failure of the
central R-7 sustainer to separate
from the payload

4. Yuri Gagarin
• Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin
• was a Russian Soviet pilot
and cosmonaut
• first human to journey into outer
space
• his Vostok 1spacecraft completed
an orbit of the Earth
• 12 April 1961
• Gagarin died in 1968 when
the MiG-15 training jet he was
piloting crashed

6. Neil Armstrong
• Neil Alden Armstrong
• was an American astronaut and the first
person to walk on the Moon
• was also an aerospace engineer, naval
aviator, test pilot, and university professor
• joined the NASA Astronaut Corps in 1962
• made his first space flight as command pilot
of Gemini 8 in March 1966,
• becoming NASA's first civilian astronaut to
fly in space
• second and last spaceflight was as
commander of Apollo 11, the first
manned Moon landing mission in July 1969

first Malaysian commercial astronaut
• was launched to the International Space
Station aboard Soyuz TMA-11 with
the Expedition 16 crew on 10 October 2007
• Sheikh Muszaphar flew under an agreement
with Russia through the Angkasawan program
• returned to Earth on 21 October 2007,
aboard Soyuz TMA-10 with the Expedition
15 crew members, Fyodor Yurchikhin and Oleg
Kotov
