Spongebob Research Paper
Hello, our names are Giselle Hinojosa, Jasmine Kamara, Jasmine Saldana, Andrea Romero, Daniel
Perez, Ryan Booher, Peter Flory–Sanchez, Dominique Maxie, Ciara Sutton, and Xavier Macaraeg,
and it is our pleasure to represent Spongebob Squarepants on this very important case. The
defendant stands falsely accused of the second degree murder of Eugene H. Krabs. Ladies and
gentlemen of the jury, our defendant stands here falsely accused of murder. The prosecution has
indicated that our client's footprints were at the crime scene. There is a legitimate explanation to
this. Prior to the death of Mr. Krabs, our client has worked at the establishment where the victim
was murdered. Ladies and gentlemen, The defense will call upon two witnesses. The first, ... Show

Krabs, because he said that Mr. Krabs would wish he would give him a raise. But this counter
argument is invalid because Spongebob did not kill Mr. Krabs since he was playing with Patrick at
the time Mr. Krabs was murdered. The third counter argument is that Spongebob still could have
killed Mr. Krabs if he just went back into the Krusty Krab after Squidward had saw him but the
thing is this didn't happened because Squidward would have seen Spongebob walk into the Krusty
Krab. So this did not happen as seen in evidence #19, #20, #6. The last counter argument that would
most likely be brought by the prosecution is that the only suspect could be Spongebob because he
and Mr. Krabs were the only people in the Krusty Krab at the time of Mr. Krabs alarming scream,
according to Squidward. However the rebuttal for this counter argument is that Squidward's relation
with Spongebob reveals that Squidward Tentacles resents Mr. Squarepants, and would do anything
to get rid of him. Squidward's timeline conflicts with Patrick Star's timeline, who is very naive than
Mr. Tentacles, but wouldn't try and get rid of Spongebob by blaming him of murder. Mr. Star's
testimony reveals that four hours before Mr. Krabs' death, Spongebob had been at his house.
Although this is not mentioned, it can be assumed that this is true because of the fact that Mr. Krabs
was depressed when talking to Mr. Star. He had stated,"I might never sell another Krabby

1. Explain How Planktonic Organisms Are Classified?
Q. 6) Ocean Productivity (two parts) a. i. Explain how planktonic organisms are classified. There are
three types of marine organisms: benthos, nektons, and plankton. Plankton can be animals or plants
that are unable to fight the pull of the ocean's waves, tides and currents, having very little control
over their position in the ocean. Plankton are identified and classified by three main factors: size,
habitat, and taxonomy. [f] The size can range from .2µm, which are called picoplankton, all the way
up to megaplankton at over 2,000µm, with different naming based on ever increasing size ranges.[f]
The habitat has 4 main categories with 2 being where they live, and the other 2 being how long the
organisms are plankton. These include pleuston

Character Analysis: The House Of The Scorpion
In The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, Matteo Alacrán's life was full of many hardships.
All of his struggles made Matteo, aka Matt, stronger. His new strengths proved very helpful during
different arduous times. These difficult circumstances included having to live in a pen for multiple
days, escaping from his home unnoticed, and working in a strict Plankton Factory. These struggles
helped Matt to face other challenges he came across. Matt was born a clone. This made things very
difficult for him. Some people thought of Matt as an animal. Because of this, for a period of time, he
also got treated like one. When Matt was first brought to the Alacran Mansion Rosa was assigned to
watch him, and she didn't treat him well. Matt was put into a room; with barred windows and rough
cement floors. The room was later filled with chicken litter. This series of struggles taught Matt to
have patience. For an extremely long time one day, Tom, a rude member of the Alacran family, shot
peas at Matt. Matt dealt with Tom with much patience. "He instinctively understood that if he
refused to react, Tom would lose interest." (Farmer 46) This patience helped him climb out of a bone
pit and deal with outrageous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
El Patron needed Matt's heart as a transplant so he cold stay alive, but this would kill Matt, El
Patron's clone. In order to stay alive, Matt had to run away. Matt had to continue running even when
he was exhausted because he didn't know who was after him. He also had to climb an enormous cliff
where he grew very tired, but again, he persevered and pushed onward. Although he was tired he
had a goal to accomplish, this made him grow in strength to carry on. "He no longer felt exhausted
or discouraged or anything else except a towering fury to survive." (Farmer 251) Matt's growth in
virtue helped him escape Opium and summit a cliff, but it also continued to help him threw his

Sheldon Plankton Character Analysis
A villain is defined as a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot. A villain is
the perfect word to describe Sheldon Plankton, otherwise known as Plankton, in the popular
television series "Spongebob Squarepants". Plankton's ultimate goal throughout all 10 seasons is to
steal his arch enemy, Mr. Krabs' famed Krabby Patty secret formula. Plankton produces devious
plans to obtain the secret formula, although they do have hints of genius, all of them are quite
corrupt. One of Plankton's most clever, devious plans hatched in episode 174b, titled "For Here or
To Go". Mr. Krabs was hosting a contest, where a certain number of bun seeds were in a jar, and
whoever guessed the correct number won a free Krabby Patty. Plankton ... Show more content on

During this episode, Plankton overhears Squidward (a Krusty Krab Employee) arguing with Mr.
Krabs about several problems the establishment has. Squidward claims that the Krusty Krab is
disgusting, that he should receive more pay, and that he is treated like dirt. Mr. Krabs laughs, and
does nothing to acknowledge Squidward's complaints, setting Squidward off. Plankton rushes over
to the Krusty Krab and offers Squidward a job at the Chum Bucket, an offer which Squidward
gladly accepts. Squidward vows to spice up not only the Chum Bucket's interior design issues, but
also Plankton's secret recipe for chum. Overnight, the Chum Bucket turns into a massive hotspot.
Mr. Krabs is angered at the fact that Squidward told Plankton the Krabby Patty secret formula,
however that is not the case. Squidward has merely created his own successful recipe, that
outperforms Mr. Krabs'. Yet again, Plankton's evil genius strikes, stealing from Krabs a beholder of
the secret formula. The ideas that Plankton comes up with are beyond evil, including the one from
this episode. Stealing a key employee from a restaurant and then having them recreate/devise a
recipe to put your competition out of business? That has evil genius written all over

Lake Granby
Lake Granby
Lake Granby is located in the mountains of Colorado, near the town of Granby. The third largest
body of water in Colorado, it is at an elevation of 8,284 feet. In 1950 the Granby Dam was
completed, and is a part of the Colorado –Big Thompson Project (CBT). The CBT provides a large
water resource for the Front Range. Along with being used to supply the Front Range with water, it
is also the headwaters of the Colorado River. Water levels in the lake are extremely important to
both the Front Range and the downstream users of the watershed. This is a unique situation for
water because the water that is used in the CBT has to cross the continental divide. There must also
be enough water that travels downstream due to water rights in, and outside the watershed. Proper
water management of the system at a lake wide scale is the most important sustainability issue for
the area. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boats are very common on the lake, both for fishing and recreation. The lake is a popular to anglers
looking for kokanee salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) and lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush). Other
fish like rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and brown trout (Salmo trutta) are also abundant in
the lake. Mysis shrimp were introduced into the lake many years ago. They have had an impact on
the kokanee salmon and will be analyzed in the final paper. The fishing industry provides income for
the area, as well as jobs. As of recent, the populations of kokanee salmon and lake trout have been in
a decline. The interaction of human management on these fish populations is needed in order to help
increase these fish abundance in the lake. This issue is also linked to the management of water in the
lake because water levels impact the way that fish species

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is the effect of the human population's waste. The Great Pacific
Garbage Patch is a collection of trash floating in the ocean where there is a high density of garbage
because of the Pacific Gyre. "Though their name suggests rafts of bobbing refuse, the patches are
instead areas with high concentrations of trash – mostly wee bits of plastic particles that have
degraded from larger pieces of litter such as water bottles. The bits amass within ocean vortices,
driven by wind and ocean currents."( Mole) The types of waste found in the garbage patch are micro
plastics and macro plastics. Macro plastics can range from a few centimeters to a couple of meters,
however micro plastics are only a couple of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A group of scientists wanted to study the effects of the chemicals that leak out of plastics on brine
shrimp (Artemia franciscana) and green microalgae (Dunaliella tertiolecta). They tested it on these
two organisms because they are predator and prey. The chemicals that they were measuring for were
40 nm PS anionic carboxylate (PS–COOH) and 50 nm cationic amino–modified (PS–NH 2). They
were checking the toxicity and the growth inhibition on the brine shrimp and the microalgae.
"Moreover, the expression of target genes (i.e. clap and cstb), having a role in the brine shrimp
larval growth and molting, was measured in 48 h brine shrimp larvae. "(Bergami, Pugnalini,
Vannuccini, Manfra, Faleri, Savorelli, Dawson, Corsi) What was noticed was that the chemicals
were absorbed into the microalgae and in the brine shrimp. This caused an inhabitation of algal
growth (12.97 μg/ml) and a mortality in the brine shrimp (0.83 μg/ml). There was also a noticeable
change in the clap and cstb genes that caused physiological alterations in the brine shrimp. The
chemicals that leak from the plastics can affect the organisms that live in our ocean. What came out

Brooks And Dodson Summary
National Inquirer Assignment Brooks and Dodson, the authors of the article titled "Predation, Body
Size, and Composition of Plankton", conducted research on the effect the small fish called Alosa
Pseudoharengus has on an ecosystem, more specifically, different lakes in New England. Along with
the data they collected on the aforementioned matter, they studied the sizes and the composition of
the miniscule zooplankton inhabiting the lakes, and compared it with that of the Alosa. Their
research uncovered important facts regarding water ecosystems and how they are so easily thrown
off balance. The main experiment Brooks and Dodson carried out was to find how the addition of
Alosa to lakes affected the fragile ecosystem in place. To test this, they found multiple lakes that
were all very similar in size and composition, but the main difference was that some had Alosa and
others did not. The researchers then took the lakes that did not ... Show more content on

Competition determines survival of the fittest. The larger plankton eat larger particles, therefore
making themselves thrive, and the smaller planktonic herbivores were extinguished from the
specific lake ecosystem. When the plankton are being heavily hunted, the smaller thrive. The small
plankton tend to succeed in the general plankton population because they are effective when
collecting their food, and they have lower metabolic rates, requiring them to eat less. An equation
was devised to represent this scenario. "The food collecting surfaces are proportional to the square
of some characteristic linear dimension, such as body length, in Crystal Lake, for example, the body
length of Daphnia catawba is about four times that of Bosmina longirostris, so that the filtering area

The Observation Of Five Years
Results and discussion The observation of five years (From January, 2007 to December, 2011) of the
biomanipulation work done in the lake Nainital for its ecosystem restoration is presented in this
paper. In this approach we attempted to manipulate various levels of the food chain, assuming that
the nutrient input is stable and cannot be reduced to limit the primary production. At the start of the
work important physico– chemical and biological parameters were measured to know the present
scenario of the lake. Among physico– chemical parameters the water temperature, transparency,
total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, total alkalinity, pH, nitrate and phosphate were taken into
consideration while in biotic factors, the qualitative and quantitative estimation of phytoplankton,
zooplankton and fishes was made. The water temperature varied from 10.0 0C in January, 2007 to
23.4 0C in June, 2011. The Secchy transparency ranged between 35.0 cm during January 2007 and
410 cm during December, 2011. The total dissolved solids varied between 160 mg/ l in April, 2007
and 536 mg/ l in June, 2008. The dissolved oxygen concentration at water surface varied from 3.0
mg/ l during January, 2007 to 12.5 mg/ l during May, 2009 throughout the experiment period. The
total alkalinity of lake water was found between 102 mg/ l during January, 2008 and 240 mg/ l
during June, 2011. The pH of lake water varied from 6.9 in April, 2008 to 9.8 July, 2011. The nitrate

Plankton: Phytoplankton Growth In A Pelagic Community
Habitat is an organism location in a certain community in where it reside, other hand A niche is why
way a certain organism ends up fitting into its unique environment and its relationship between what
it eats and what eats it. Pelagic communities live in the water column, which is located above the
seafloor and below the surface of the ocean. The pelagic zone divided into different subsections
depending on the depth and column of the water. Define the following terms: Plankton: are very tiny
swimming plants that live in the water Holoplankton: are permanent planktons . They lead

Spongebob In Italian
Once upon a time Mr.Krabs told Spongebob to visit Italy, Because Plankton was there trying to steal
their food. Spongebob was very very excited. He went to Patrick's house to ask him to come. Patrick
said, "Yes I will go that sounds fun." "Alright are you ready for the best trip of your life," said
Spongebob. "Ok, as long as we eat," said Patrick. "Yeah, yeah but remember we need to find
Plankton," said Spongebob. "Ok lets just get on the plane," said Patrick. 25 hours later. They are
here finally. "What restaurant should we go to first Patrick?" said Spongebob. "We need to find
plankton, I don't care as long as we eat," said Patrick. So their first restaurant they went to was
Osteria Francescana. "Ciao!" said Mario. "Um... why are you speaking like that?" said Patrick. "Are
you not smart?" Said Luigi. "It's in italian,it means hello in your language," said Mario disgusted.

1. What are phytoplankton? In which ocean zone will you expect to find them? Why are they
important? (10 points)
Plankton are microscopic organisms that get their name for the fact that they passively float in the
waters that they habitat. Plankton means "drifter in Greek." Now phytoplankton are a special type of
plankton that are very small, plant–like organisms as they consist of eukaryote such as algae and
Protista as well as prokaryote such as cyanobacteria. Diatoms, with their hard, silica shells, are the
most common type of phytoplankton. These organisms typically live in the water column and the
benthic zone of waters, ranging from arctic to tropical. Phytoplankton serve an important role as
they begin the first link of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Great advantages come with this that allow for a higher level of cognitive thinking. Because there is
more surface area in the brain, there is more white matter in the human temporal cortex which is
responsible for the connectivity of nerve cells and the process of information. This elevates our
thought processes and makes our brains more efficient. The fact that the size of the human brain
most rapidly evolved during a time of dramatic climate change supports the idea that a more
complex brain enabled early humans to interact with each other and with their surroundings in new
and different ways. As the environment became more erratic, bigger brains helped our ancestors
survive through this unfamiliar time. Downsides to having a larger brain include delayed
reproduction, a longer developmental period, and potential difficulties during childbirth due to the
size of the cranium. Homo floresiensis was a species native to Flores, Indonesia. They inhabited the
island between 95,000–17,000 years ago. Though they demonstrated evidence of tool use, fire
control, and hunting, scientists were reluctant to place homo floresiensis in the human lineage due to
the fact that their brain was about a third of the size of a human's. Not only this, but the adult homo
floresiensis only grew to be a mere 3 and a half feet tall. Other anatomical features of

The Qualities Of A Hero In 'The SpongebobMovie'
A hero is someone few people can be. A hero is someone who is able to do a task no one else can do
and be able to help in situations of need. A hero is someone who puts others people's needs ahead of
his own to do what's good. Someone who has all the qualities of a hero is Spongebob. In his film
"The Spongebob Movie" Stephen Hillenburg uses the character archetype "the hero" to show that
we as humans need someone to lead us because when we face life's biggest challenges we need
someone to help us out.
Spongebob makes many bold moves in the beginning of the movie. This shows us how Spongebob
is a character who does anything he can to do what he believes is good. Spongebob says something
in the beginning of the film that showed me he was a hero. "Yes I might only be a kid, but I will
never stop trying to save mr. Krabs." This showed me his perseverance as people might doubt him in
the beginning of his journey but he will never give up if he thinks he is doing something good.
Spongebob now faces many challenges during the middle of the film. He doesn't give up though
showing the audience how he will continue to attempt to save the whole city. Patrick says "We can't
get to Shell City now. Our car has been stolen and there is no way we will get the crown and come
back in time." Spongebob then exclaims "We can't stop now, if we go back Mr Krabs will die and
the whole city will continue to be run by Plankton." He is able to get the strength not to give up even
when it doesn't look like he will be able to save the city he still knows what he has to do even
though he has gone through so much challenges. He was attacked my motorcycle gangs, guys with
mustaches, giant worms, and a Cyclops but he didn't stop fighting.
Spongebob comes back to the city with the king's crown, but there still a problem as Plankton has
turned everyone into slaves. Spongebob then defeats Plankton and he says a powerful speech
showing the audience how he is a hero. "I've learned a lot in the last 6 days, and if there is one thing
that I have learned it is that you are who you are. I know I don't have any mermaid magic, or
manager promotion, or any other thing. None of those can make me more than who I really am

Sea Lions Are Dying
Research Report Many people don't notice that sea lions are starting to die out. But why? Why are
sea lions starting to die out? Two reasons, poison in algae and the ocean not providing enough food
for sea lions. One reason why sea lions are dying is because of poison in algae. The poison causing
the sea lions to die is called domoic acid. Domoic acid is produced by algae called Pseudo Nitzschia
and forms when the Pseudo Nietzsche bloom. When the sea lions eat the algae, the domoic acid kills
their brain cells. The acid damages the hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for memory
and navigation. This causes the sea lions to not know where they are or where anything is. This is
one reason why sea lions are dying. Sea lion pups are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sardines are most common along the west coast of the United States. Sardines had essentially
disappeared in the late 1980's and early 1990's. But in early 2000's 700,000 tons could be found
north of Vancouver island in Canada. In 2013 to 2014, Canada had no sardines. In 2015, the sardine
population dropped below the threshold of 150,000 tons. Anchovies are most common off the coast
of Peru. The population started out low in the 1950's and was stable around mid–2000's. But in 2005
to 2009, the spawning mass decreased over 99 percent and in 2009 to 2011, the population
plummeted 20,000 tons. Through the years the population of sardines and anchovies have been
going down, affecting the population of the sea lions. The main reasons why sea lions are dying out
is 1) domoic acid in algae called Pseudo Nitzschia is produced when the algae blooms. 2) The Blob
or the El Nino is preventing the Upwelling, which brings in nutrients and nitrogen for the plankton.
With the nitrogen not coming in, the plankton dies out. That causes the sardines and anchovies, who
need the plankton to survive, to die out. Without the sardines and anchovies, the sea lions can't

Plankton displays amateurish thinking by failing to stealing The Krabby Patty Formula with "Plan

Squidward is extremely not self–aware as he thinks he is talented at dance and clarinet, when in
reality he is awful at both. There are plenty of people in society who have narcissistic tendencies,
but in actuality have little talent, like the Kardashians. However, deep down Squidward does care
about Spongebob and the others, he just likes to put up a tough front. Sandy is a squirrel from Texas
who lives in an air–locked tree dome and wears a helmet and suit, so she can breathe underwater.
She is a karate master and exceptionally smart. She is very much an outsider in Bikini Bottom, but
everyone respects her wisdom. The characters in Bikini Bottom regularly run on emotions and make
stupid decisions, so she is the rational voice among the chaos. This attribute can be seen through
advisors, who are supposed to help leaders make sane decisions. Also, teachers can be represented
by Sandy because of the wisdom and information they teach students and the guidance they offer.
Patrick is Spongebob's best friend, and together they partake in many mindless adventures, often to
the chagrin of others especially Squidward. He has an overly exaggerated dumb persona, but is
loveable at the same time. He is Spongebob's faithful sidekick and extremely loyal. However, he

Lobster Life Cycle
To understand the life cycle of a lobster it is important to understand the first five to seven years of a
lobster because until this age lobsters are not at a large enough length to be taken ashore (NOAA,
2012). Little is known about the exact timeline as to how long a female lobster holds and releases
the eggs that she carries (NOAA, 2012). Before the lobster egg appears on the tail of a lobster a
range from nine months to slightly over a year is the time span needed for eggs to develop inside the
female lobster (NOAA, 2012). Nine to twelve months later, eggs will slowly attach to the external
swimmerets which are a part of the female lobster's tail (NOAA, 2012). There is a huge timespan

Lobsters are benthic organisms because they on the ocean bottom (Townsend, 2012). These animals
are on the bottom of the seabed and do not swim as much as organisms that never touch the seabed
(Townsend, 2012). In this case, epifaunal is a word to characterize that lobsters live on the seabed
(Townsend, 2012). Lobsters do not burry themselves into the seabed, but instead hind under rocks
for protection from prey (Townsend, 2012). In addition, the mobility of lobsters was designed to
catch prey and the mobility of a lobster is used for a survival technique that is heavily influenced
based on feeding styles (Townsend, 2012). Furthermore, feeding styles increase growth in a lobster
therefore molting and temperature of ocean are also important to study (Townsend, 2012). Studies
are trying to find correlations that climate change can be linked to molting patterns, or with more
carbon dioxide in the water lobsters carbon shells could be impacted (Townsend, 2012).
Surprisingly, after over twenty years of studying many lobsters researcher Dr. Jelle Atema has come
up with a detailed explanation for lobster mating behaviour where female lobster does not have a

Chlorophyll And The Concentration Of Chlorophyll
Plankton are aquatic organisms that drift throughout their environment as they posses no true motor
capabilities. Within their respective aquatic habitats plankton form the productive basis of their
ecosystem and are divided into two subcategories: zooplankton and phytoplankton, the later will be
the primary focus of this paper. Phytoplankton, as well as other photosynthetic organisms poses
pigments called chlorophyll. These pigments allow phytoplankton to convert carbon dioxide and
water to oxygen and sugar, which provides the phytoplankton with energy. Due to the fact that all
phytoplankton posses chlorophyll scientists have developed methods that use chlorophyll testing in
order to understand more about phytoplankton as a whole. Phytoplankton posses different types of
chlorophyll but scientists usually sample chlorophyll–a as it is the most abundant form (YSI
Environmental, Cullen 1982, Santos 2003). Several different methods have been developed to
analyze the concentration of chlorophyll–a.
One method of analyzing chlorophyll–a that has been developed is through chlorophyll extraction.
In order to perform this method one must first collect a fairly large water sample (see Plankton Web
citation for surface water sampling techniques). This sample must then be filtrated in order to
concentrate the chlorophyll–containing organisms (see Plankton Web for filtration methods). Finally

Epipelagic Zone
The oceanic zone is made up of three main zones. The epipelagic zone, the mesopelagic zone, and
the bathypelagic zone. The epipelagic zone is the surface layer of the ocean, and this where most of
the ocean life lives. The mesopelagic zone is the layer of the ocean below the epipelagic zone. Not a
lot of sunlight penetrates this area of the ocean. The zone under the mesopelagic zone is the
bathypelagic zone. No sunlight reaches this zone. Together all of these zones make up the oceanic
zone. The surface layer of the ocean is the epipelagic zone. This zone is from the surface of the
ocean to about 200 meters down. Since this zone is close to the surface the currents move at a fast
speed. These currents carry nutrients throughout the zone. This zone has most of the life in the ocean
because the sunlight penetrates the water here. The animals that live here range from whales to small
phytoplankton. These phytoplankton use the nutrients in the water and the sunlight to produce their
own food. This is how the phytoplankton survived, the phytoplankton themselves were used as food
for other animals. Some of these animals that eat the plankton are small fish but not only fish eat
them whales also eat them. The temperature of the water ranges from ... Show more content on

This zone is also called the midnight or dark zone because no light will ever reach this far down.
The only light is from bioluminescent animals that make their own light. The temperature down
there usually stays between 35–39 degrees fahrenheit. This zone ranged from 1,000 to 4,000 meters
down in the ocean. The pressure is about 5,800 psi. The food source here is limited to the debris of
dead material that sinks from the above zones. A lot of animals stay still to conserve energy. Unlike
other zones where animals travel between zones, the animals in the bathypelagic zone usually stay
in this zone. The water here moves extremely slow and there is some downward current due to

From Prey to Predators
Cold is encircling you, and the deeper you go, the tighter it squeezes. There's enough light for you to
see a dark, looming shape weaving back and forth through the water, slowly heading toward you. It
aggressively opens its mouth, ready to gulp you down its starving stomach, and its teeth seem to
sparkle with hunger. But something else catches eye. Abruptly bolting past you, it swiftly devours a
fish twice its size. Welcome to the Pelagic zone. Large organisms roam this open space, and this is
perhaps why another name for it is the Open–ocean zone. Including numerous subzones, this
limitless territory has includes the subzones of the epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathypelagic, and
abyssopelagic. Despite being home to many large predators though, many species use it to spawn,
grow to maturity, feed, and breed. Slightly or majorly morphing in order to survive in your
surroundings, adapting, is required for this ever–changing environment, and phytoplankton, sunfish,
and flying fish have become adept at this skill.
A deceiving family name surrounds this organism, or animal. Even though it is called a fish, a glitter
just above the surface of the ocean's water might just be it. Admirably capable of swimming and
flying, flying fish are pure evidence of how nature has learned to adapt. One adaptation they possess
is an unequally split tail, for this gives them more control over movement. Flying Fish also have
another trait that allows them to get airborne, expanded pelvic fins.

Plankton Experiment
The ocean floor is a very dark and is filled with algae however, crabs that live here can still easily
catch and eat plankton. Scientists are wondering, is it the crab's other senses doing the job or is it
just there sight? On the ocean floor not much light gets in which leads everyone to think that the
crabs can't see however, some light does reach the crabs and the plankton the crabs eat. Most visible
light does not reach the ocean floor in normal conditions except yellow light and green light. Since
the plankton reflects all visible light the plankton would appear yellowish green to the crab's eyes.
Even though the green and yellow light reaches the floor in normal conditions the area where the
crabs live is packed with algae. According to evidence cards F and G algae reflects green light but
all the other colors of visible light are absorbed with algae. This states that only green light has a
large chance of making it to the bottom so the crabs can see the plankton. ... Show more content on

Due to the ocean's continued absorption of carbon dioxide, it continues to acidify. This acidification
is having a notable effect on the oceanic ecosystem, most notably in the phytoplankton. In fact, the

Planktons! You can find them in several places on the Earth. In oceans, seas, and lakes! These
organisms are those that drift, and are incapable or have little or no ability to swim. Due to that, they

3. Get about 40 pipe cleaners, cut them up with there being 30 that are 10 centimeters in length and

4. Place the foil in the center, placing the metal washer on the top of it and in the middle.
5. Get 12 of the pipe cleaners that are 10 centimeters in length, and place 3 one each side. If you're
going for the Santaluces look, alternate between colors. For instance, blue, white, red, and start that

6. Now get all 6 of the pipe cleaners that are 21 centimeters in length and place 3 on the upper and
lower side. Tape it on now. Not on the foil, but taped and attached to the side of it.
7. Now get the rest of the pipe cleaners, which should all be 10 centimeters in length, and 18 in total.
Place 9 on each side. Meaning place it near the left and right side, attached to both the upper and

The Story Of The Water Cycle : A Short Story
Once upon a time, there was a god cloud named Rainfall. He was known for giving birth to
thousands of raindrops everyday. He was the leader of the world called "The Water Cycle". The
other god called run–off was a big water park and he was known for splitting up families. His two
main slides were called Ocean and Lake. There was one raindrop that got separated from his family,
he went over to the lake side, when all of his family went over to the ocean side. Poor Raindrop was
so scared being by himself in a big lake with a lot of other rain being separated from their families.
He found himself going farther down in the lake, until he reached the bottom. He was slowly going
down into the ground. It was a very, very, very, dark and scary place. When he is slipping down he
bumps into something it was a huge, squishy stick with a hat. His name was Mushroom. Raindrop
was slowly walking up to mushroom, to say sorry. Mushroom turns around with very, very big teeth,
with a mean look. Raindrop crouches down into a ball and tries to hide from the very scary
Mushroom. Mushroom starts talking to Raindrop and he tells himself that Mushroom is actually
really nice but, he was just born scary looking. Raindrop got up and looked Mushroom right in the
eyes, and he said why are you so scared I am just a little mushroom. It finally clicks in that Raindrop
is in a different world. He has never seen any of these people before. Raindrop starts to panic.
Mushroom just tells Raindrop not to worry because this place is very nice. Raindrop asked "What is
this place called?" Mushroom says 'Welcome to the Nitrogen Cycle." Raindrop said "The Ni–Ni–
Nitrogen Cycle, what is that?" "This is the place where that makes up 78% of the world's air" says
Mushroom. Mushroom starts telling and showing Raindrop around the Nitrogen Cycle. Raindrop is
so amazed from looking at this place. The Nitrogen Cycle is way different from the place he was
born in. Mushroom is showing Raindrop around the cycle. Mushroom brings Raindrop underground
and when they were walking and saw many different types of treats. There was one that stuck out to
Raindrop and he was a very tall oval, his name was Terry the bacteria.

Ecosystems Ruined By The Sun's Ultraviolet Rays
How Marine Ecosystems are being devastated by the Sun's Ultraviolet Rays?
A community and the interactions of living and nonliving things in an area are commonly referred to
as an ecosystem. Being a part of the Earth's vast ecosystems, the marine ecosystem is among the
largest on Earth; having such unique characteristics that make this ecosystem so unique; such as
Coral Reefs, Polar Regions, and the Deep Sea. All of these levels of the marine ecosystem are
widely used by the aquatic marine life, which is also being affected each and every day by humans
and greatly affected by the Sun's Ultraviolet Rays. Having the Sun's Ultraviolet Rays beaming down
onto Earth's Stratosphere reduces the amount of ozone on Earth. In this paper, I will be telling ...

Great Barrier Reef: Environmental Analysis
The increasing population of the Crown of Thorn's starfish (COTS) is currently a hot topic,
especially with regards to the conservation of the Great Barrier Reef. The COTS feeds on the living
coral using its hundreds of sucking tubes within its arms, and its eating habits are not sustainable
and too much coral is being consumed. This is a major contributor of the decline in coral cover at
the Great Barrier Reef (Lucas, 2013). This is one of the main causes of coral cover decline along
with cyclones, pollutant discharge from the land, coastal development and climate change affects.
(The conservation 2012).
The COTS are usually an important part of maintaining the balance of the coral reef ecosystem's, as
it would feed off the faster growing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plankton is required for COTS larvae to survive and reach adulthood, therefor the increase in
population. Another argument is that humans are overfishing top predators which prey on the COTS
and help keep the balance by controlling populations.
Previous attempts to solve this problem has saw conservation groups cutting the COTS into pieces,
thinking that this would kill them. However the remaining pieces of COTS regenerated making
more starfish and proved very ineffective at tackling the problem.
Another attempt was that conservation groups would collect the COTS, take them to the surface and
cover them in fresh water were they would die from lack of oxygen. However this is a long and
expensive and saw no significant results.
Current thinking is to eliminate the fast growth of plankton, this however would be a long and
expensive procedure and would focus on controlling the amount of sewage and agricultural run–off
into the ocean. This would require industries, political, conservation groups and others to work
together which will always be a

they went to the hooks which Timtiam is terrified of. Under normal circumstances he would never
go there, but he was with his friends he would be fine. Pat started listening to music the headphones
that had wires. "Don't get near me with your headphones, you know I'm terrified of those wires"
Timtiam squeaked at Pat "I know" Pat replied. They were approaching the area with the hooks. They
had less than a mile to go. They made it to the hooks. They started messing around sitting on the
hooks jumping over them, but was when all three of them were sitting on the same hook the felt a
little pull. Then nothing happened for a few seconds, then felt themselves being pulled higher and
higher up to the surface of the water where the put in a cooler with water in it. "Where are we?" said
Pat nervously, "I don't know" Plankton replied, "It seems to be some sort of water holder." They
were being taken somewhere. They were being taken off the boat, but where are they going Timtiam
thought to himself, would they be all right. The lid was opened. Timtiam, Pat and Plankton were
taken out and put back into more water. "Okay, where are we now?" Asked Plankton. "No idea."
Said Timtiam. "We need to get out of here." Said Pat, "But how are we going to do that?" "We could

decline that in the future it will pose a great threat to the ways in which our world functions.
Specifically speaking, all living beings from microscopic algae to marine mammals, seabirds, fish
and humans will meet a great demise. From Dalhousie University a research was conducted where
lead author Daniel Boyce said: 'Phytoplankton is the fuel on which marine ecosystems run. A

In the past few years there has been a rise in the sea level surrounding the state. According to a new
study by Lead author ,Benjamin Strauss, "Miami and Hollywood are two of the dozens of coastal
cities in the U.S. predicted to be washed away by rising sea levels this century." This means that half
of the immensely populated cities in South Florida such as: Miami, Hollywood, and many more will
be feet under water. This will cause hundreds of thousands of residents to migrate else where to find
new areas and homes to accommodate their needs. It has even been mentioned that other places such
as New Orleans are too late to save. The only logical causes behind these discoveries would be the
pending disasters of climate change. The rising temperatures from the atmosphere are melting down
the massive chunks of ice in Antarctica causing world wide flooding. Major continents such as Asia
will suffer massive losses of land as well as population wise. From what we know deforestation is
not the leading probable cause of this. As stated before the plankton in our oceans are being lost at a
much more alarming rate than any land plant specie. When humanly causes such as dead zones
occur from excessive sewage pollution along with other factors that prohibit the required amount of
oxygen to be produced to support most marine life in bottom of the ocean, the effects are

The Importance of Plankton in Pelagic Food Webs and...
The word plankton originates from the Greek word for "wandering." Refers to the diverse group of
plants and animals that spend some or all of their life cycle drifting in the water of oceans or
freshwater lakes. Plankton is abundant and important within the marine environment. Most fo the
Earth's biomass, the mass of living organisms, consist of plankton adrift in the oceans. Ninety–eight
percent of marine species are bottom dwelling, but the vast majority of the ocean's biomass is
planktonic. Many of these organisms are capable of locomotion, but are generally unable to move
independently of currents and waves. This lack of strong swimming ability separates plankton from
nekton, which include organisms that can control their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Diversity in planktonic marine animals stems from a shifting balance between competition for food
and avoidance of predators. As a result, a wide variety of planktonic animals inhabit the oceans.
Phytoplanktons are primary producers because they use solar energy to convert CO2 and nutrients
into carbohydrates and other molecules used by life. Despite limited knowledge of what small
copepods eat, it is clear that many higher–trophic level consumers eat them. Numerous studies have
shown that copepod nauplii and other small copepods are important prey of fish larvae, and other
planktivores. Most studies of larval fish feeding published since 1984 continue to document the
importance of small copepods as fish prey. Small copepods are abundant and are very important
links in marine food webs. They serve as major grazers of phytoplankton, as components of the
microbial loop by preying upon bacterio–plankton and heterotrophic protists, and as prey for
ichthyoplankton and other larger pelagic carnivores. Small copepods exhibit various reproductive
and feeding strategies which help maximize population size, in order to counter heavy losses due to
predation. Accordingly, small copepods can become extremely abundant, and presumably exert
substantial feeding impact on their prey, but such data are scarce. Our biomass, trophic ecology, and
roles of small copepods in

Earth from Space
As beautiful as the earth is from the ground it is even more stunning from international space
stations. There are approximately 120 artificial satellites in space starting at a distance of 100 to
25,000 miles from the ground. There are many different types of Artificial Satellites, each with a
distinct job. Some Artificial Satellites help predict the weather, while others gather information
about the universe for organizations like NASA. Satellites can see things far beyond human vision;
they transform things invisible to the naked eye into visible images.
These transformed images show how the sunlight, moisture, land and atmosphere react together to
make life on earth possible. These insights help scientists relate between the planet and it's life. So,
what exactly makes life? What are the essential components, which make life possible on this
planet? Why do sand storms in the Sahara affect the amazon rain forest 5000 miles away? The

Spongebob Research Paper

  • 1. Spongebob Research Paper Hello, our names are Giselle Hinojosa, Jasmine Kamara, Jasmine Saldana, Andrea Romero, Daniel Perez, Ryan Booher, Peter Flory–Sanchez, Dominique Maxie, Ciara Sutton, and Xavier Macaraeg, and it is our pleasure to represent Spongebob Squarepants on this very important case. The defendant stands falsely accused of the second degree murder of Eugene H. Krabs. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, our defendant stands here falsely accused of murder. The prosecution has indicated that our client's footprints were at the crime scene. There is a legitimate explanation to this. Prior to the death of Mr. Krabs, our client has worked at the establishment where the victim was murdered. Ladies and gentlemen, The defense will call upon two witnesses. The first, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Krabs, because he said that Mr. Krabs would wish he would give him a raise. But this counter argument is invalid because Spongebob did not kill Mr. Krabs since he was playing with Patrick at the time Mr. Krabs was murdered. The third counter argument is that Spongebob still could have killed Mr. Krabs if he just went back into the Krusty Krab after Squidward had saw him but the thing is this didn't happened because Squidward would have seen Spongebob walk into the Krusty Krab. So this did not happen as seen in evidence #19, #20, #6. The last counter argument that would most likely be brought by the prosecution is that the only suspect could be Spongebob because he and Mr. Krabs were the only people in the Krusty Krab at the time of Mr. Krabs alarming scream, according to Squidward. However the rebuttal for this counter argument is that Squidward's relation with Spongebob reveals that Squidward Tentacles resents Mr. Squarepants, and would do anything to get rid of him. Squidward's timeline conflicts with Patrick Star's timeline, who is very naive than Mr. Tentacles, but wouldn't try and get rid of Spongebob by blaming him of murder. Mr. Star's testimony reveals that four hours before Mr. Krabs' death, Spongebob had been at his house. Although this is not mentioned, it can be assumed that this is true because of the fact that Mr. Krabs was depressed when talking to Mr. Star. He had stated,"I might never sell another Krabby ... • 2. 1. Explain How Planktonic Organisms Are Classified? Q. 6) Ocean Productivity (two parts) a. i. Explain how planktonic organisms are classified. There are three types of marine organisms: benthos, nektons, and plankton. Plankton can be animals or plants that are unable to fight the pull of the ocean's waves, tides and currents, having very little control over their position in the ocean. Plankton are identified and classified by three main factors: size, habitat, and taxonomy. [f] The size can range from .2µm, which are called picoplankton, all the way up to megaplankton at over 2,000µm, with different naming based on ever increasing size ranges.[f] The habitat has 4 main categories with 2 being where they live, and the other 2 being how long the organisms are plankton. These include pleuston ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Character Analysis: The House Of The Scorpion In The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, Matteo Alacrán's life was full of many hardships. All of his struggles made Matteo, aka Matt, stronger. His new strengths proved very helpful during different arduous times. These difficult circumstances included having to live in a pen for multiple days, escaping from his home unnoticed, and working in a strict Plankton Factory. These struggles helped Matt to face other challenges he came across. Matt was born a clone. This made things very difficult for him. Some people thought of Matt as an animal. Because of this, for a period of time, he also got treated like one. When Matt was first brought to the Alacran Mansion Rosa was assigned to watch him, and she didn't treat him well. Matt was put into a room; with barred windows and rough cement floors. The room was later filled with chicken litter. This series of struggles taught Matt to have patience. For an extremely long time one day, Tom, a rude member of the Alacran family, shot peas at Matt. Matt dealt with Tom with much patience. "He instinctively understood that if he refused to react, Tom would lose interest." (Farmer 46) This patience helped him climb out of a bone pit and deal with outrageous ... He also had to climb an enormous cliff where he grew very tired, but again, he persevered and pushed onward. Although he was tired he had a goal to accomplish, this made him grow in strength to carry on. "He no longer felt exhausted or discouraged or anything else except a towering fury to survive." • 4. Sheldon Plankton Character Analysis A villain is defined as a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot. A villain is the perfect word to describe Sheldon Plankton, otherwise known as Plankton, in the popular television series "Spongebob Squarepants". Plankton's ultimate goal throughout all 10 seasons is to steal his arch enemy, Mr. Krabs' famed Krabby Patty secret formula. Plankton produces devious plans to obtain the secret formula, although they do have hints of genius, all of them are quite corrupt. One of Plankton's most clever, devious plans hatched in episode 174b, titled "For Here or To Go". Mr. Krabs was hosting a contest, where a certain number of bun seeds were in a jar, and whoever guessed the correct number won a free Krabby Patty. Plankton ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During this episode, Plankton overhears Squidward (a Krusty Krab Employee) arguing with Mr. Krabs about several problems the establishment has. Squidward claims that the Krusty Krab is disgusting, that he should receive more pay, and that he is treated like dirt. Mr. Krabs laughs, and does nothing to acknowledge Squidward's complaints, setting Squidward off. Plankton rushes over to the Krusty Krab and offers Squidward a job at the Chum Bucket, an offer which Squidward gladly accepts. Squidward vows to spice up not only the Chum Bucket's interior design issues, but also Plankton's secret recipe for chum. Overnight, the Chum Bucket turns into a massive hotspot. Mr. Krabs is angered at the fact that Squidward told Plankton the Krabby Patty secret formula, however that is not the case. Squidward has merely created his own successful recipe, that outperforms Mr. Krabs'. Yet again, Plankton's evil genius strikes, stealing from Krabs a beholder of the secret formula. The ideas that Plankton comes up with are beyond evil, including the one from this episode. Stealing a key employee from a restaurant and then having them recreate/devise a recipe to put your competition out of business? That has evil genius written all over ... • 5. Lake Granby Lake Granby Lake Granby is located in the mountains of Colorado, near the town of Granby. The third largest body of water in Colorado, it is at an elevation of 8,284 feet. In 1950 the Granby Dam was completed, and is a part of the Colorado –Big Thompson Project (CBT). The CBT provides a large water resource for the Front Range. Along with being used to supply the Front Range with water, it is also the headwaters of the Colorado River. Water levels in the lake are extremely important to both the Front Range and the downstream users of the watershed. This is a unique situation for water because the water that is used in the CBT has to cross the continental divide. There must also be enough water that travels downstream due to water rights in, and outside the watershed. Proper water management of the system at a lake wide scale is the most important sustainability issue for the area. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boats are very common on the lake, both for fishing and recreation. The lake is a popular to anglers looking for kokanee salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) and lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush). Other fish like rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and brown trout (Salmo trutta) are also abundant in the lake. Mysis shrimp were introduced into the lake many years ago. They have had an impact on the kokanee salmon and will be analyzed in the final paper. The fishing industry provides income for the area, as well as jobs. As of recent, the populations of kokanee salmon and lake trout have been in a decline. The interaction of human management on these fish populations is needed in order to help increase these fish abundance in the lake. This issue is also linked to the management of water in the lake because water levels impact the way that fish species ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is the effect of the human population's waste. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a collection of trash floating in the ocean where there is a high density of garbage because of the Pacific Gyre. "Though their name suggests rafts of bobbing refuse, the patches are instead areas with high concentrations of trash – mostly wee bits of plastic particles that have degraded from larger pieces of litter such as water bottles. The bits amass within ocean vortices, driven by wind and ocean currents."( Mole) The types of waste found in the garbage patch are micro plastics and macro plastics. A group of scientists wanted to study the effects of the chemicals that leak out of plastics on brine shrimp (Artemia franciscana) and green microalgae (Dunaliella tertiolecta). They tested it on these two organisms because they are predator and prey. The chemicals that they were measuring for were 40 nm PS anionic carboxylate (PS–COOH) and 50 nm cationic amino–modified (PS–NH 2). They were checking the toxicity and the growth inhibition on the brine shrimp and the microalgae. "Moreover, the expression of target genes (i.e. clap and cstb), having a role in the brine shrimp larval growth and molting, was measured in 48 h brine shrimp larvae. "(Bergami, Pugnalini, Vannuccini, Manfra, Faleri, Savorelli, Dawson, Corsi) What was noticed was that the chemicals were absorbed into the microalgae and in the brine shrimp. This caused an inhabitation of algal growth (12.97 μg/ml) and a mortality in the brine shrimp (0.83 μg/ml). There was also a noticeable change in the clap and cstb genes that caused physiological alterations in the brine shrimp. • 7. Brooks And Dodson Summary National Inquirer Assignment Brooks and Dodson, the authors of the article titled "Predation, Body Size, and Composition of Plankton", conducted research on the effect the small fish called Alosa Pseudoharengus has on an ecosystem, more specifically, different lakes in New England. Along with the data they collected on the aforementioned matter, they studied the sizes and the composition of the miniscule zooplankton inhabiting the lakes, and compared it with that of the Alosa. Their research uncovered important facts regarding water ecosystems and how they are so easily thrown off balance. The main experiment Brooks and Dodson carried out was to find how the addition of Alosa to lakes affected the fragile ecosystem in place. To test this, they found multiple lakes that were all very similar in size and composition, but the main difference was that some had Alosa and others did not. The researchers then took the lakes that did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competition determines survival of the fittest. The larger plankton eat larger particles, therefore making themselves thrive, and the smaller planktonic herbivores were extinguished from the specific lake ecosystem. When the plankton are being heavily hunted, the smaller thrive. The small plankton tend to succeed in the general plankton population because they are effective when collecting their food, and they have lower metabolic rates, requiring them to eat less. An equation was devised to represent this scenario. "The food collecting surfaces are proportional to the square of some characteristic linear dimension, such as body length, in Crystal Lake, for example, the body length of Daphnia catawba is about four times that of Bosmina longirostris, so that the filtering area of the Daphnia is about 16 times larger than that of the ... The Observation Of Five Years Results and discussion The observation of five years (From January, 2007 to December, 2011) of the biomanipulation work done in the lake Nainital for its ecosystem restoration is presented in this paper. In this approach we attempted to manipulate various levels of the food chain, assuming that the nutrient input is stable and cannot be reduced to limit the primary production. At the start of the work important physico– chemical and biological parameters were measured to know the present scenario of the lake. Among physico– chemical parameters the water temperature, transparency, total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, total alkalinity, pH, nitrate and phosphate were taken into consideration while in biotic factors, the qualitative and quantitative estimation of phytoplankton, zooplankton and fishes was made. The water temperature varied from 10.0 0C in January, 2007 to 23.4 0C in June, 2011. The Secchy transparency ranged between 35.0 cm during January 2007 and 410 cm during December, 2011. The total dissolved solids varied between 160 mg/ l in April, 2007 and 536 mg/ l in June, 2008. The dissolved oxygen concentration at water surface varied from 3.0 mg/ l during January, 2007 to 12.5 mg/ l during May, 2009 throughout the experiment period. The total alkalinity of lake water was found between 102 mg/ l during January, 2008 and 240 mg/ l during June, 2011. The pH of lake water varied from 6.9 in April, 2008 to 9.8 July, 2011. This elevates our thought processes and makes our brains more efficient. The fact that the size of the human brain most rapidly evolved during a time of dramatic climate change supports the idea that a more complex brain enabled early humans to interact with each other and with their surroundings in new and different ways. As the environment became more erratic, bigger brains helped our ancestors survive through this unfamiliar time. Downsides to having a larger brain include delayed reproduction, a longer developmental period, and potential difficulties during childbirth due to the size of the cranium. Homo floresiensis was a species native to Flores, Indonesia. They inhabited the island between 95,000–17,000 years ago. Though they demonstrated evidence of tool use, fire control, and hunting, scientists were reluctant to place homo floresiensis in the human lineage due to the fact that their brain was about a third of the size of a human's. Not only this, but the adult homo floresiensis only grew to be a mere 3 and a half feet tall. Other anatomical features of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Qualities Of A Hero In 'The SpongebobMovie' A hero is someone few people can be. A hero is someone who is able to do a task no one else can do and be able to help in situations of need. A hero is someone who puts others people's needs ahead of his own to do what's good. Someone who has all the qualities of a hero is Spongebob. In his film "The Spongebob Movie" Stephen Hillenburg uses the character archetype "the hero" to show that we as humans need someone to lead us because when we face life's biggest challenges we need someone to help us out. Spongebob makes many bold moves in the beginning of the movie. This shows us how Spongebob is a character who does anything he can to do what he believes is good. Spongebob says something in the beginning of the film that showed me he was a hero. "Yes I might only be a kid, but I will never stop trying to save mr. Krabs." This showed me his perseverance as people might doubt him in the beginning of his journey but he will never give up if he thinks he is doing something good. Spongebob now faces many challenges during the middle of the film. He doesn't give up though showing the audience how he will continue to attempt to save the whole city. Patrick says "We can't get to Shell City now. Our car has been stolen and there is no way we will get the crown and come back in time." Spongebob then exclaims "We can't stop now, if we go back Mr Krabs will die and the whole city will continue to be run by Plankton." He is able to get the strength not to give up even when it doesn't look like he will be able to save the city he still knows what he has to do even though he has gone through so much challenges. He was attacked my motorcycle gangs, guys with mustaches, giant worms, and a Cyclops but he didn't stop fighting. Spongebob comes back to the city with the king's crown, but there still a problem as Plankton has turned everyone into slaves. Spongebob then defeats Plankton and he says a powerful speech showing the audience how he is a hero. "I've learned a lot in the last 6 days, and if there is one thing that I have learned it is that you are who you are. I know I don't have any mermaid magic, or manager promotion, or any other thing. • 13. Sea Lions Are Dying Research Report Many people don't notice that sea lions are starting to die out. But why? Why are sea lions starting to die out? Two reasons, poison in algae and the ocean not providing enough food for sea lions. One reason why sea lions are dying is because of poison in algae. The poison causing the sea lions to die is called domoic acid. Domoic acid is produced by algae called Pseudo Nitzschia and forms when the Pseudo Nietzsche bloom. When the sea lions eat the algae, the domoic acid kills their brain cells. The acid damages the hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for memory and navigation. This causes the sea lions to not know where they are or where anything is. This is one reason why sea lions are dying. Sea lion pups are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2015, the sardine population dropped below the threshold of 150,000 tons. Anchovies are most common off the coast of Peru. The population started out low in the 1950's and was stable around mid–2000's. But in 2005 to 2009, the spawning mass decreased over 99 percent and in 2009 to 2011, the population plummeted 20,000 tons. Through the years the population of sardines and anchovies have been going down, affecting the population of the sea lions. The main reasons why sea lions are dying out is 1) domoic acid in algae called Pseudo Nitzschia is produced when the algae blooms. 2) The Blob or the El Nino is preventing the Upwelling, which brings in nutrients and nitrogen for the plankton. With the nitrogen not coming in, the plankton dies out. That causes the sardines and anchovies, who need the plankton to survive, to die out. • 18. Chlorophyll And The Concentration Of Chlorophyll Plankton are aquatic organisms that drift throughout their environment as they posses no true motor capabilities. Within their respective aquatic habitats plankton form the productive basis of their ecosystem and are divided into two subcategories: zooplankton and phytoplankton, the later will be the primary focus of this paper. Phytoplankton, as well as other photosynthetic organisms poses pigments called chlorophyll. These pigments allow phytoplankton to convert carbon dioxide and water to oxygen and sugar, which provides the phytoplankton with energy. Due to the fact that all phytoplankton posses chlorophyll scientists have developed methods that use chlorophyll testing in order to understand more about phytoplankton as a whole. Phytoplankton posses different types of chlorophyll but scientists usually sample chlorophyll–a as it is the most abundant form (YSI Environmental, Cullen 1982, Santos 2003). Several different methods have been developed to analyze the concentration of chlorophyll–a. One method of analyzing chlorophyll–a that has been developed is through chlorophyll extraction. In order to perform this method one must first collect a fairly large water sample (see Plankton Web citation for surface water sampling techniques). This sample must then be filtrated in order to concentrate the chlorophyll–containing organisms (see Plankton Web for filtration methods). The epipelagic zone is the surface layer of the ocean, and this where most of the ocean life lives. The mesopelagic zone is the layer of the ocean below the epipelagic zone. Not a lot of sunlight penetrates this area of the ocean. The zone under the mesopelagic zone is the bathypelagic zone. No sunlight reaches this zone. Together all of these zones make up the oceanic zone. The surface layer of the ocean is the epipelagic zone. This zone is from the surface of the ocean to about 200 meters down. Timtiam, Pat and Plankton were taken out and put back into more water. "Okay, where are we now?" Asked Plankton. "No idea." Said Timtiam. "We need to get out of here." Said Pat, "But how are we going to do that?" "We could climb out the sides" Suggested Plankton. "That would work" Said Timtiam After five minutes of struggling they made it ... • 32. Phytoplankton Decline In recent years the amount of Phytoplankton (Plankton) in our oceans have seen such a dramatic decline that in the future it will pose a great threat to the ways in which our world functions. Specifically speaking, all living beings from microscopic algae to marine mammals, seabirds, fish and humans will meet a great demise. From Dalhousie University a research was conducted where lead author Daniel Boyce said: 'Phytoplankton is the fuel on which marine ecosystems run. A decline in phytoplankton affects everything up the food chain, including humans.' Many people are unaware of the major contribution to our survival that the phytoplankton provide for us. Alone, it is responsible for 50% of the oxygen we breath in our atmosphere while tropical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the past few years there has been a rise in the sea level surrounding the state. According to a new study by Lead author ,Benjamin Strauss, "Miami and Hollywood are two of the dozens of coastal cities in the U.S. predicted to be washed away by rising sea levels this century." This means that half of the immensely populated cities in South Florida such as: Miami, Hollywood, and many more will be feet under water. This will cause hundreds of thousands of residents to migrate else where to find new areas and homes to accommodate their needs. It has even been mentioned that other places such as New Orleans are too late to save. The only logical causes behind these discoveries would be the pending disasters of climate change. The rising temperatures from the atmosphere are melting down the massive chunks of ice in Antarctica causing world wide flooding. Major continents such as Asia will suffer massive losses of land as well as population wise. From what we know deforestation is not the leading probable cause of this. As stated before the plankton in our oceans are being lost at a much more alarming rate than any land plant specie. When humanly causes such as dead zones occur from excessive sewage pollution along with other factors that prohibit the required amount of oxygen to be produced to support most marine life in bottom of the ocean, the effects are ... • 33. Plankton Research Paper Initial treatment is important because supplied water must pass through the narrow corridors during the process. In addition, plankton must be removed to prevent the deposition of organisms and their growth on the membranes. It includes chemotherapy filtering and adding acid or other chemicals to prevent sedimentation. The high–pressure pump provides the pressure that needed to cross the water through the membranes and hold salts. This pressure ranges from 17 to 27 bar (250–400 lbs. per square inch) of wells water, and 45 to 80 bar (800 – 1180 lbs. per square inch) of seawater. The complex membranes consist of the vessel pressure and membrane allows the water to pressure. It also bears the membrane pressure difference in it. Half–porous membranes ... Some of the features of reverse osmosis: 1– Saltwater desalination separation of dissolved solids. 2– Reduces the degree of concentration of soluble solids raw water by removing up to 99%. 3– To get rid of biomaterials from the water by removing up to 98%. 4– Removals of microbial cells of bacteria and viruses and other by complete removing. 5– Remove most solid organic materials by removing up to 97%. To raise the efficiency of the desalination process of reverse osmosis must do pre–treatment includes removing turbidity to get rid of solid materials, manganese, and iron to prevent oxidation. Furthermore, removing substances that help the formation of deposits of calcium carbonate and other deposits on the surface of the membrane. After that, they add acid to prevent sedimentation. • 34. Research Paper On Sea Pens Sea Pens Description Sea pens are colonies of polyps( polyps: animals that have a fixed base, column like body, with mouth and tentacles.). Each polyps resembles a feathery quill. Sea pens are bilateral (bilateral: being able to divide into even halves). There is no typical weight for sea pens, but the height ranges from 2 inches to 6 feet. Sea pens have various colors. Their colors range from dark orange, yellow, and white. Habitat Sea pens are octocoral, which means they are a type of soft coral. Like any other coral sea pens like to live on sandy or muddy surfaces. Sea pens are generally located on the gulf of Alaska to Southern California. The sea pens biome varies. Some sea pens live in intertidal zones while others live in the deep ... • 35. Effects Of The Great Pacific Garbage Patch On The Ocean 's... The Effect of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch on the Ocean's Plankton and Algae Introduction: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is the effect of the human population's waste. Macro plastics can range from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chemicals that leak from the plastics can affect the organisms that live in our ocean. "Our study aims at evaluating the effects of 40 nm PS anionic carboxylate (PS–COOH) and 50 nm cationic amino–modified (PS–NH 2) NPs in two planktonic species, the green microalga Dunaliella tertiolecta and the brine shrimp Artemia franciscana , respectively prey and predator. PS NP behavior in exposure media was determined through DLS, while their toxicity to microalgae and brine shrimps evaluated through 72 h growth inhibition test and 14 d long–term toxicity test respectively. Moreover, the expression of target genes (i.e. clap and cstb), having a role in brine shrimp larval growth and molting, was measured in 48 h brine shrimp larvae. A different behavior of the two PS NPs in exposure media as well as diverse toxicity to the two planktonic species was observed. PS–COOH formed micro–scale aggregates (Z–Average > 1 μm) and did not affect the growth of microalgae up to 50 μg/ml or that of brine shrimps up to 10 μg/ml. However, these negatively charged NPs were adsorbed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Sheldon Plankton : A Short Story Prologue They called me evil, a green–eyed monster, a waste upon the sea. They were right. Yes, I stole the crown, yes, I framed Krabs, and yes, I am still the victim. I know what you're thinking: How? How can someone as amazing as I, Sheldon Plankton, do such a thing, commit such a crime? Well I can tell you, I mean of course I can. I am, as I said, Sheldon Plankton. The glorious Chum Bucket owner and operator, a genius, and scholar. Chapter One It all began on October 9, 2004. A sunny day in Bikini Bottom. Eugene Krabs and I were just a couple of teens wanting something to do. So I had the bright idea of starting business! We had no idea what to do at first. He suggested bizarre things such as a skydiving business or a national corporation. I told him we should start off simple, then that's when I got the idea of starting a food business. We started off just with a burger selling stand and people loved it! Eventually, we had enough money to open a restaurant! And that's where things began to crumble See old Krabs had a bit of an obsession with the stuff. He was money crazy. One day I guess he just decided "Hey, I could make more money WITHOUT a partner, I wouldn't have to split the cash!". After that he spent his time trying to get me to hate him, since he can't just kick me out, but I could voluntarily leave. Being the brilliant organism I am I decided to open my own business, The Chum Bucket. Now Krabs wasn't just going to let me get all that money with my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Importance of Plankton in Pelagic Food Webs and... The word plankton originates from the Greek word for "wandering." Refers to the diverse group of plants and animals that spend some or all of their life cycle drifting in the water of oceans or freshwater lakes. Plankton is abundant and important within the marine environment. Most fo the Earth's biomass, the mass of living organisms, consist of plankton adrift in the oceans. Ninety–eight percent of marine species are bottom dwelling, but the vast majority of the ocean's biomass is planktonic. Many of these organisms are capable of locomotion, but are generally unable to move independently of currents and waves. This lack of strong swimming ability separates plankton from nekton, which include organisms that can control their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diversity in planktonic marine animals stems from a shifting balance between competition for food and avoidance of predators. As a result, a wide variety of planktonic animals inhabit the oceans. Phytoplanktons are primary producers because they use solar energy to convert CO2 and nutrients into carbohydrates and other molecules used by life. Despite limited knowledge of what small copepods eat, it is clear that many higher–trophic level consumers eat them. Numerous studies have shown that copepod nauplii and other small copepods are important prey of fish larvae, and other planktivores. Most studies of larval fish feeding published since 1984 continue to document the importance of small copepods as fish prey. Small copepods are abundant and are very important links in marine food webs. They serve as major grazers of phytoplankton, as components of the microbial loop by preying upon bacterio–plankton and heterotrophic protists, and as prey for ichthyoplankton and other larger pelagic carnivores. Small copepods exhibit various reproductive and feeding strategies which help maximize population size, in order to counter heavy losses due to predation. Accordingly, small copepods can become extremely abundant, and presumably exert substantial feeding impact on their prey, but such data are scarce. Our biomass, trophic ecology, and roles of small copepods in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Earth from Space As beautiful as the earth is from the ground it is even more stunning from international space stations. There are approximately 120 artificial satellites in space starting at a distance of 100 to 25,000 miles from the ground. There are many different types of Artificial Satellites, each with a distinct job. Some Artificial Satellites help predict the weather, while others gather information about the universe for organizations like NASA. Satellites can see things far beyond human vision; they transform things invisible to the naked eye into visible images. These transformed images show how the sunlight, moisture, land and atmosphere react together to make life on earth possible. These insights help scientists relate between the planet and it's life. So, what exactly makes life? What are the essential components, which make life possible on this planet? Why do sand storms in the Sahara affect the amazon rain forest 5000 miles away? The video" Earth from Space" helps us understand the effects of forces on this planet. It starts with the Sun, at a distance of 93 million miles away from the earth; it warms every inch on the surface. One of the newer satellites by NASA called "Suomi National Polar–orbiting" which was launched in 2011, orbits 500 miles away from ground. It enables us to see more substances. For instance, the spectrum is as long as the distance from New York to Los Angeles. In comparison, the visible region to the human eye would be the size of a dime. The ...
