Editor's Notes
Shelter is a production of DocuCinema and Adventure Pictures. Lee Schneider and Richard Neill are the producers. Shelter is a documentary about architects and designers who are using good design to address the shelter needs of the homeless and survivors of natural disasters. The film started with a look at the uses of pre-fab architecture. But we discovered the moral imperative of the movie when we started to look at how pre-fab and modular construction was used in disaster relief. We want the film to inspire more architects and designers, and design students, to to recognize the power of good design to create social change.Let’s take a look at one story in the next slide. It’s about a project using volunteers to rebuild a homeless encampment in Ventura, CA. Relevant links: www.docucinema.com/shelter and www.adpix.com

We are making a documentary, but we are constructing it in a modular way. For the past year we’ve been using online tools and social media to build an audience for the project. Here’s our website, showing an report of an article by Cameron Sinclair. We’ve been working with Diana at diModa Public Relations to coordinate this. We do blog articles, short media, and of course, longer pieces that will be part of the film.
This is the EDAR project, a design for social good project that is designed to provide temporary housing for the homeless. The video is on Vimeo on our Shelter channel. EDAR video: http://vimeo.com/10241588Shelter channel on Vimeo: http://vimeo.com/channels/76127
