Centering oneself in each moment through conscious breathing and grounding techniques allows one to choose a thoughtful response rather than act from reflexive reaction when encountering internal thoughts/feelings or external stimuli. With training and practice, one can anchor this balance of choosing responses over life-saving reactions, especially when perceiving potentially provocative inputs.
