A lesson I did with Y8 to revise and consolidate the preterite in Spanish. Jolly good fun.

1. ¿Quién es el asesino?
Who is the murderer?
Objective: Use the preterite of
regular and irregular verbs to solve
a murder.

2. The setting

Anoche había un asesinato en la escuela.

La policía encontró un cuerpo en la biblioteca.

La policía encontró un arma en la cantina y el
asesino dejó caer un guante.

La víctima es Señor McGladdery.

3. Task 1: Mi coartada
The police are questioning everyone in the
school. The victim had a lot of enemies!
Write an alibi in Spanish. Include:
- where you where last night
- what you were doing (with opinions)
- who you were with

4. Task 2: Eres agente de policía
Decide who killer is using this information.
Name When? Where? With? Other details?
Listen to the alibis of the people on your table
and make notes in English.

5. Task 3: En el tribunal
You now have to give evidence in court.
Use the verb decir to write about what your
suspect said.
e.g. Tom dijo que no fue a la biblioteca....
Tom dijo que no fue a la biblioteca pero
pienso que....
Tom dijo que no fue a la biblioteca pero
pienso que era....y...en mi opinión/creo
que...

6. Task 3: En el tribunal
You now have to give evidence in court.
Use the verb decir to write about what your
suspect said.
e.g. Tom dijo que no fue a la biblioteca....
