technology.
In an effort to enhance broadcasting, Eurosport
announced the launch of a new app that is compatible
with iOS- and Android-supported devices as well as those
capable of using Google Cardboard, Oculus Rift, and
Samsung Gear VR. The virtual reality app will give fans a
different perspective on sporting events by offering
behind-the-scenes footage, 360-degree views of playing
fields, and player interviews that are exclusive to users.

 The chief executive of Eurosport expressed, in
an interview with the award-winning media
outlet The Drum, that the “app will transport fans
right to the heart of the action and bring them
closer than ever to their heroes.”
The app’s release date in May 2016 made it
possible to cover the 2016 French Open.
Following the success of its coverage during the
most recent Alpine Ski World Cup, the
broadcasting network expects that features
such as daily highlights and “Shots of the Day”
will impress app fans.
