1. Task 3
Gladiator
Gladiator is a big Hollywood movie. There has been a lot money spend on everything. There
was money spend on props, sets. Costumes and also even on the starsthat took part in the
film because in Hollywood movies only actors who are already known and famous star in
them. This helps to gain lots of audience to watch the film because their favourite
Hollywood actor may be in movie and they may just watch it for that particular person.
People may just like a star because of their great looks as almost everyone in
Hollywoodmovies (cast) look attractive and striking. This allhelps to get lot of money, make a
success out of the film and make the film popular. Money is spent on them because they are
already known, famous and popular.
The film received many awards the reasons behind it can be because alot of people may
have watched the movie because they liked the movie or their favourite star was of part of
the movie and this encouraged them to watch the movie. Finally as the actors in film already
worked in big Hollywood movies that would have experience so there is more chance of
them winning and of getting nominated.

2. The BBFC certificate is 15. There is quite a lot of violence and dangerous behaviour because
there are some scenes were it involves fighting and bloodshed. Threats and Menacing are
seen in this film between Maximus and Commodus as Commodus despises Maximus. There
are also minor threats because this film has a lot of fighting and people are against each
other
Universal and Dream Works distributed and funded the film. The budget for Gladiator was
$103 million.
3. Submarine
The BBFC certificate is 15. There is kissing scenes with Oliver and Jordana. The film
uses sexual language: Oliver thinks his mum is having an affair with her ex- boyfriend
and there are scenes where Oliver talks about his parents having s*x. Threats are
made in this film but they are minor: Oliver threats to beat someone up. There is bit
of violence used when Oliver gets beaten up by a few boys.
Submarine is a small movie. There is an average amount of money used for this film:
only 1.2 million. This can be because for this film the crew used ordinary things and
ordinary clothes instead of someone actually making them. The set is natural. It is
either at home or in school.
In this film the actors are not as famous as Hollywood stars. They don’t have much
experience, money or stardom. They are almost everyday people who have just
come to do a short movie as if it is almost a school play.
As the stars are not famous and popular there is less chance of people coming to
watch the movie compared to a Hollywood movie. Some audience may love
Hollywood stars not because of their acting but because of their looks and people
make them so imported to the point where they make them their idol and think they
are almost perfect. But with a small movie like Submarine that is not the case. The
actors are young and generally don’t look that attractive.
There are no big awards for this film as again it may be because it is a small with
normal things and fairly new actors with money, stardom or great looks.
Optimum Releasing and The Weinstein Company distributed and funded the film.
The budget for the film was 1.2 million.
