What is Industrial Automation ? <ul><li>Automation is the science by which a particular job or a group of jobs are being done automatically with the help of controllers. </li></ul><ul><li>Automation could be defined as the delegation of human function control to technical equipments. </li></ul>

How Automation is being done?? <ul><li>Automation is simply being done through a controller, that may be a µP, a microcontroller or PLC. </li></ul><ul><li>PLC is the most advanced version of controller which are being now adopted by the companies and the processes are being monitored through it. </li></ul><ul><li>The monitoring software is called as SCADA. </li></ul>
  7. 9. “ PLC” the “Heart” of Automation <ul><li>PLC stands for PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLER. </li></ul><ul><li>In a simple form PLC is a electronic device which can be programmed with a particular logic to perform a particular job at that time. </li></ul><ul><li>PLC can control the machinery, process Electronics devices ,electrical & mechanical equipments, etc.. ,Which are typically found in the industry. </li></ul>

  11. 13. SCADA <ul><li>SCADA stands for Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition. </li></ul><ul><li>Using SCADA , We can Acquire Data, analyze the data and control the output accordingly. </li></ul><ul><li>It increases the system efficiency. </li></ul>
  12. 14. <ul><li>Suppose you have a simple electrical circuit consisting of a switch and a light. </li></ul><ul><li>This circuit allows an operator to watch the light and know whether the switch is open or closed. The switch may indicate that a motor is running or stopped. </li></ul><ul><li>Now Imagine we have 2000 such circuits located far apart. We cannot afford such 2000 communications circuits to check the fault !!!! </li></ul><ul><li>Now what to do???? </li></ul>What is SCADA?
