Paul Hulett has worked in IT for over 15 years, starting as a systems architect and now serving as the CIO of GMHBA. GMHBA is a health insurance provider in Australia with over 130,000 member policies and 350,000 people covered. As CIO, Paul focuses on improving the customer experience through online presence, knowledge support, and reliable infrastructure. Current projects include new member/provider portals, a data warehouse, and revamping core systems. Future projects involve digital health systems, electronic medical records, and cloud migration. Paul plans to add over 45 new IT roles by 2025 focused on solutions architecture, integration, and applications development.

Why IT?
I like to fix things.
I think IT are mechanics of a business, fundamentally most IT people love a problem that requires abstract thinking to correct.
As you go up the ladder, the problems are bigger and take longer to correct (Frustrating) but in the end we are still performing the same task.
As a CIO my task is to bring new technologies to GMHBA and make sure that our technology is correctly placed to provide a competitive platform for the business to operate. It’s a role of influence and requires changing traditional perceptions of technology capability.
