5. Background
True academic value of any course is realized only if classroom sessions are
complemented by industrial orientation, International Exposure or field trips and
internships.
School of Petroleum Technology at PDPU is known for such unique academic
pedagogy.
It offers student’s opportunities of conferences, government round-table events,
study on the campuses of other universities, corporate internships and rural
internship.
Rural internship is an internship carried out in rural area. It is a work based activity
in which students are engaged in learning through practical experiences in rural areas.
To do something for our country we have to feel and understand its condition.
It has become necessary for youth of today to know and understand the rural life
and it’s social, cultural and economic ramification. It is in this context, School of
Petroleum Technology, PDPU, established by a special act of assembly 2007, has
introduced rural internship in B.Tech (Petroleum Engineering) programme for the first
year student.
6. OBJECTIVE OF RURAL INTERNSHIP
Develop social skills among labor child
Develop skill of public survey
Training children for lateral thinking
The global secondary school attendance rate for rural girls is 39% .As oppose to
45% for rural boys and 59% of urban girls so that we decided to spread awareness
about education in village.
Communication development
Role play within the classes to develop interaction and participation
To discuss, debate and develop the future for child labor - equip them with the
knowledge, processes and tools to shape their destinies
Developing leadership qualities, societal responsibility
To strengthen understanding on concepts of rural development and parameters of
quality of life
To expose the reality in rural areas in accordance of NGO.

10. Lifestyles in rural areas are different than those in
urban areas, mainly because limited services are
available.
Governmental services like law enforcement,
schools, fire departments, and libraries may be
distant, limited in scope, or unavailable.
Utilities like water, sewer, street lighting, and
garbage collection may not be present.
Public transport is sometimes absent or very
limited, people use their own vehicles, walk or ride
an animal.
