Antalya. Aspendos
boasts one of the best
preserved ancient
theatres of antiquity. The
theatre of Aspendos was
built in 155 AD during the
rule of the Roman
Emperor Marcus Aurelius
and could seat between
15,000 and 20,000
spectators.

6. PAMUKKALE
One of Turkey's most famous
natural wonders, the pure
white travertine terraces of

place snowfield amid the
green landscape. Although the
travertines are themselves a
highlight of a Turkey trip, the
vast and rambling ruins of
Roman Hierapolis, an ancient
spa town, lie on the top of this
calcite hill, providing another
reason to visit.
7. ÖLÜDENİZ
Impossibly turquoise-blue

forest tumbling down a cliff to
a white sand beach. Check.
The sheltered inlet of
Ölüdeniz, just a short journey
from Fethiye, is Turkey's most
famous beach, and with
scenery that might as well
have fallen off a perfect
postcard, it's easy to see why

The top sightseeing drawcard
for Eastern Turkey, Mount
Nemrut's summit funerary
mound is scattered with the
broken remnants of once
mammoth statues, which
guarded it. This weird and
lonely place has to be one of
Turkey's most peculiar
archaeological sites.
9. SUMELA MONASTERY
With its stunning, lonely
setting, built into a cliff
face, Sumela Monastery
(Monastery of the Virgin
Mary) is the star attraction
for visitors along the Black
Sea Coast.
10. TOPKAPI PALACE
Topkapı Palace is in İstanbul. It
was built by Mehmet the
Conqueror in the 15th century,
the sultans of the Ottoman
Empire ruled over their
dominions from this glorious
palace beside the Bosphorus
up until the 19th century.
