• DANGER: Danger is used to indicate a hazard that will cause severe
personal injury, death, or property damage. Abide by the danger indication.
Do not ignore the danger indication.
• WARNING: Warning is used to indicate a hazard that can cause severe
personal injury, death, or property damage. Heed the warning. Do not
ignore the warning indication.
• CAUTION: Caution is used to indicate a hazard that can cause some
personal injury or property damage. Though it is not as severe as a
warning or danger, the Caution indication is still important due to the injury
or damage caused. It further provides information that is useful to the
operator to avoid a more serious problem. An example of this is the sticker
on the control panel face that mentions the jib boom capacity when
extended versus retracted.
• NOTICE: Notice is used to inform operators and service personnel of
important maintenance information.
• ATTENTION: The large yellow Attention labels are used to indicate
information to help prevent damage to the rig.

Section 2: Safety
Introduction
This manual has been created to educate and stress safe operation and
maintenance of the T450WS rig. Drilling is inherently dangerous, and can
cause property damage, severe injury, or death. Following the guidelines and
instructions in this manual, along with using common sense while around the
rig, will greatly reduce the possibility of a serious/fatal accident occurring.
Please read the Operation and Maintenance manual and all safety instructions
supplied with this equipment before any operation or servicing occurs. Study
the manual and know how to use the drill in a safe and efficient manner.
Follow all safety start-up procedures before operating the rig. Safety is of the
utmost importance when operating the rig. If you do not understand any
instruction, contact Schramm, Inc.
IMPROPER USE, INCORRECT MAINTENANCE,
OR UNAUTHORIZED ALTERATION OF THIS
EQUIPMENT CAN CAUSE
PROPERTY DAMAGE, SEVERE INJURY, OR
DEATH.
Track mounted equipment is powered by the rig’s hydraulic system.
Modifications to these hydraulic circuits could affect unintended
speed, brake, or rotational movements, which can result in property
damage, severe injury, or death.
Do not make any alterations to the equipment without the proper written
consent of the manufacturer. Any equipment alteration without written consent
of the manufacturer voids the warranty and can cause property damage,
severe injury, or death.
The Drilling Safety Guide should be read and used as a reference. The Drilling
Safety Guide, published by the National Drilling Association (formerly the
International Drilling Federation), is an acknowledged handbook of safety
procedures for drilling equipment users. Copies can be obtained from the
National Drilling Association, 3008 Millwood Avenue, Columbia SC (Phone
800-445-8629 or Fax 803-765-0860).
Section 2: Safety Operation & Maintenance Manual
T450WS2-2
Who is Responsible for Safety?
Everyone is responsible for their own safety, and they should always be aware
of their surroundings since drilling is inherently dangerous. Further, the
machine operator (and safety supervisor) must take responsibility for safe
operation and maintenance of the machine. The operator must understand the
operational features of the machine, use care and common sense during its
operation, and ensure that co-workers and observers follow all the safety
procedures. The Drilling Safety Guide, instructions and guidelines in this
manual, and the Point of Hazard labels on the rig provide reminders and
principles for working safely.
Protective Attire
Wear protective attire when working around the drill rig. Always wear a hard
hat, protective shoes, and protective glasses
around the rig. Wear electrically insulated gloves
and boots when working around any form of
electric current to prevent shock or death.
Respirators should be used when working in a
volatile atmosphere to prevent internal damage to
the body such as Silicosis (a disabling,
nonreversible, and sometimes fatal lung disease
cause by overexposure to breathable crystalline
silica).
Do not wear loose clothes or allow untied hair around the rig. Instead, wear
tight clothing and confine the hair when around the rig to avoid the rig from
pulling at the body.
Noise levels will vary with the applied drilling method, the operational
parameters of the drill rig, and the sound reflecting characteristics of the drill
site. Hearing protection must be used.
Hearing protection must be used by everyone working or visiting at or near the drilling site.
Failure to use hearing protection could result in partial or complete hearing loss.
Noise Levels and Hearing Protection
Understand the choice of sound reduction capabilities that can be used at your site.
Ensure exposure does not exceed the maximum capability of the hearing protection.
Ensure that signs indicating that hearing protection must be worn is visible for anyone to
see at the drill site. Follow all laws and meet the ordinances of your locality.

Each sign has a unique significance. It is in the best interest of everyone involved with the rig to not only read and get familiar with these indications, but to obey them. The terms are defined as follows:
  • 26. Section 1: Introduction Operation & Maintenance Manual T450WS1-4 • DANGER: Danger is used to indicate a hazard that will cause severe personal injury, death, or property damage. Abide by the danger indication. Do not ignore the danger indication. • WARNING: Warning is used to indicate a hazard that can cause severe personal injury, death, or property damage. Heed the warning. Do not ignore the warning indication. • CAUTION: Caution is used to indicate a hazard that can cause some personal injury or property damage. Though it is not as severe as a warning or danger, the Caution indication is still important due to the injury or damage caused. It further provides information that is useful to the operator to avoid a more serious problem. An example of this is the sticker on the control panel face that mentions the jib boom capacity when extended versus retracted. • NOTICE: Notice is used to inform operators and service personnel of important maintenance information. • ATTENTION: The large yellow Attention labels are used to indicate information to help prevent damage to the rig.
  • 27. T450WS 2-1 Section 2: Safety Introduction This manual has been created to educate and stress safe operation and maintenance of the T450WS rig. Drilling is inherently dangerous, and can cause property damage, severe injury, or death.
