5 Transferable skills
Team work: From a very young age I have been part of many teams from rugby
to hurling. I have played at many different levels including club, county and
provincial levels. I also was part of a team who saled from Waterford to Scotland
on the tall ships in 2014. I belive team work in sport is very similar to working
with teams in other areas such as work and college. I am able to fit in to a group
and work well with others, I am also able to analyse my teams strengths and
weakness’s allowing me to plan what needs to be done in the present or the
future.
Problem solving: From a young age I have always been intrested in problem
solving, I get great enjoyment out of solving a problem. From day-day problems
to long term problems I try to reduce as much as possible. I can pick out
important information, identify the problems and carry out what needs to be
done to correct this problem.
Creativity: I have always been creative, from a young age I would draw and
design buildings, cars and make objects out of any materials I could find. As I got
older I started creating new moves/plays for my rugby team’s. I use my
creativness to influence everything I do. I love inventing and improving things. I
apply creativness to college ex (the name of our stall “re-boot booth), to sport
ex(many moves/plays I have created) and my day –day life ex(creating new
ideas, theorys and plans)
Decision making: I have always been a decision maker, from school to sport. I
have a realistic and educated view on things, usually providing me with a good
decision. In rugby I play out-half, this is the decsion making position, they call
and execute the moves. Usually when it goes well for a team the out half is
praised, but when it goes wrong it is very easy to throw it back on the 10. In my
personal life many frieds and peers come to me for advice as they know I am a
good decision-maker.
Physical: I have always loved physicaly doing things, sports and craft especially.
Last year I laboured on a building site for a couple months because they needed
to have the venue open for a certain date, I made a big difference over the course
of a few motnhs on site. In school one of my favourite class’s was P.E. I am
physically well built, I can part take in any physical exercise or work, I belive this
is important because we are always going to face physical challeneges in life.
Recently my physical ability was limited because I injured my hand playing
rugby, I got an operation and I am in rehab to get it back to its previous strength.
