3. Introduction
A knife sharpener is a tool that used to sharpens a knife or any similar tool by grinding
against a hard, rough surface, typically stone or a soft surface with hard particles like sandpaper.
It is very uncommon in today society to use a knife sharpener to sharpen their knives except
those who are work as a chef or some housewives. Even if they do have a knife sharpener, It
won’t hold long last. This is because since the need for knife sharpener is really low,
manufacturers tend to manufacture low quality knife sharpener. Moreover, the conventional
knife sharpeners are usually come up with different varieties of shape, size and qualities. But all
these varieties are distinct from each other like they are mutually exclusive. So, in order to make
a difference, I would like to introduce my newest advanced knife sharpener, known as the ‘ DB
pocket knife’ which was made of few high quality materials that probably will meet some
customer’s specification. The double bladed pocket knife sharpener (DB pocket knife sharpener)
has superior performance compared to the traditional knife sharpener in terms of size, quality,
parts and the security. This knife sharpener is made of a high quality polymer for the body parts
and high quality of sharpening stone or abrasives. Unlike others, this knife sharpener can do
more than just sharpening the knife. By using this knife sharpener, people can enjoy sharpening
their knives in two different ways; 1) Using sliding sharpening metal and 2) Using sharpening
ceramic rod. Besides that, this advanced knife sharpener also came up with 2 high quality
removable knives. These knives or blades can be replaced whenever we like just by simply
remove the screw and connecting rod and open the cover. Since the size and the shape of the DB
pocket knife product is small, it can used for many outdoor purposes and save some space for the
storing it in the kitchen. This knife sharpener also have a good ergonomics value compared to
other.

5. Product’s parts and specifications
1) Size and shape
 Hand grip-sized , small
- So the knife sharpener can carried anywhere since it is small and light. Portable and
safe space (space efficient).
 Rectangular with trimmed edge fillet
- No sharp edges, so prevent minor or major injuries when contacted with the sharp
corners.

2) Usability
 Consumable home product
- The knife sharpener is specifically used to hone kitchen blades, so it can be used for
daily chores.
 Easy to use
- Ergonomic, easy to handle after a little practice. It does not require electricity to
function, so energy efficient.

6. 3) Security and ergonomic
 The knife sharpener is extremely sheltered.
 Base of the knife sharpener
- Made of rubber. This rubberized base of sharpener allows for finer grip and safer
usage.
4) Ceramic sharpening rod
 Very hard and has slight abrasive characteristic that allows consumers to manually
sharpen and allign knits edge.
 The sharpening rod is easy to use.
- Can be used to sharpen knives in different direction.
- The rod can be rotated or flipped in 180o
direction. It can be flipped back to the body
of the knife sharpener (original position) after used.
- Consumers doesn’t have to apply oil on it. Sometimes water may be needed, depends
on the hardness of the knife.
- The sharpening rod can be replaced simply by removing the connecting rod.

7. 5) Knife sharpening blades
 Consists of high quality blades.
- Made of carbide steel which will provide high quality sharpening at the coarse
sharpening stage.
- It does not rust easily, strong and have high long life term.
- It also can be made of flexible abrasive to help prevent damage to the knife’s edge
during honing.
 The blades also can be replaced simply by removing the screw of the body.
 Almost works with any knife.
6) Two knives and two adjusters
 High quality blades.
- Two blades instead of one. In respective to ergonomics view, it is much easier and
faster for consumers to cut. Time saving and energy efficient.
- Moreover, it also will be a convenient when a knife broke accidently, so the consumer
can use another knife.
 Replaceable blades.
- These blades can be replaced once it wears out or when consumer wanted to change.
- This simply can be done by undoing the screws and removing the cover of the body of
the knife sharpener.
 The knife’s length adjuster
- Each knives or blades have two slots on their body and these slots are used to connect
and mate with the adjusters.
- These adjusters can be found on the body, opposite to each other.
- These adjusters were used to adjust the desired length of the knife out of the knife
sharpener. The maximum length of knife is 6cm.
- These adjuster are made of plastic in order to have a fine grip.
- The adjuster is connected to the blade through the holes made on the surface of the
body of knife sharpener to the blades’ slots.

11. Conclusion
Knife sharpeners are one of the crucial tool that plays an important role in cooking
activities and affect the whole cooking processes in terms of time management and even the
deliciousness of the meal. For example, with sharp blades that had been honed with a knife
sharpener, we can cut the cooking material at desired shape more quickly and thus may decrease
the stressful moments and enhance the taste of the food. Meanwhile in our country, most of
times, knife sharpeners are rarely being used in honing their knife instead of buying new knife
and disposing their old knife. It is not really important or compulsory for most of our citizen to
use and keep it in our kitchen, and this has been proven in some research that have been
conducted by other researchers and even by myself, by conducting a survey. Based on the
survey, the huge reason why people keep denying the uses and the important of the knife
sharpener are that it is expensive, not really attractive, has a low durability or fragile and so on.
So in order to make a difference, to lead our people on keep using the knife sharpener to ease
their cooking processes, i would like to proposed a product that is known the ‘Dual-Bladed
Pocket Knife Sharpener’ or in short , the DB Pocket Knife Sharpener. This multi-functional knife
sharpener has a superior performance compared to the current conventional knife sharpener in
terms of the size, quality, the security and efficiency. This knife sharpener compared to the
traditional one has not only one but two sharp and high quality blades. Unlike any other knife
sharpener, this knife sharpener is small in size which as big as our hand grip. Throughout this
assignment, not only did I learnt something new like on how to use the Solidworks software, but
I also able think rationally and creatively in order to know on how to attract customers to buy my
product.
