2. Strategic Plan
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
When creating your own company there are certain procedures one must follow to
ensure the company succeeds. If these procedures are followed it will create a strong
foundation helping the company flourish in today’s recovering economy. As I created my vision
I thought of the simplest way to keep my word as I carry out my mission. These two items are
the most important thing to a company. It’s the companies promise to the people and a
promise to itself.
As I thought about the creation of Dr. Smith’s company I envisioned the best outcome
and used the best method for her practice. I created a SWOT analysis and a Porter’s Five Forces
analysis so she would have two different views of her company. I discussed her current
strengths and weaknesses that she brings to the field along with her threats and opportunities
in the industry. I found that her primary strengths was the experience she brought to the field.
The main weakness that she had to overcome was getting funds. Her main threat was her
competition. The main opportunity that she had was to own her own company.
I created an overview of the goals that have to be met and objectives that we will carry
out to reach the ultimate goal of opening Dr. Smith’s practice on April 9, 2012. Along with the
goals and objectives I also created a timeline to help her feel a little more as we keep pace with
the schedule.
VISION
To provide the best consultations ensuring our customer leads with their best foot forward
3. MISSION
Setting up our customers with the best computing foundation and delivering a strong support
system so they never miss a byte. That entails setting up good network reducing connectivity
downtime, providing the most elite cost efficient technology, and the best customer support
system available 24/7 showing the company’s dependability. In the end we hope to build a long
lasting relationship to last for generations.
4. SWOT ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Has a degree from the University of
Florida Medical School and has
studied Family Practice.
Has worked at a Patient’s First
medical practice obtaining 3 years
of experience with a Family
Practice. As Patient’s First
physician helped implement their
new EMR system
Helping Patient’s First allowed you
to obtain knowledge of how the
systems work
Will allow you to implement a
system of your own at the new
facility. Patient’s First uses the
NextGen Practical Management
EHR system (Health IT) so you
should be familiar with this system
which will most likely be used at
your practice.
Used to having 16-25 patients each
week so transitioning to your own
practice will not be that
complicated.
You already know who your
competition will be
WEAKNESSES
You have never owned your own
business
No facility yet
No personnel yet. An office
manager, nurses, and a receptionist
are needed. Students could be hired
to fill a couple positions
Less experience than most doctors.
Having only 3 years of experience
could be bad when compared to
other doctors in the area
Lack of funds.
Attended University of Florida and
came to Tallahassee the home of
the Noles
No technology needed to start the
company. Computers and other
devices are needed to help the
company run smoothly
OPPORTUNITIES
Chance to start your own practice
Ability to learn the EMR system
Chance to get new patients plus
your old patients
Using new technology such as mobile
devices will help give your company a
THREATS
Other family practices already
established
There are 177 Family Practice

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The main goal of this operation is to have Dr. Smith in her new practice no later than
April 9, 2012, which is the first Monday of the month. The first thing that needs to be
accomplished is to find a building that meets her criteria. She would like to have an office, a
waiting room, and 4 rooms where the patients are seen. The building must have a registration
area for the receptionist to sit. She wants an office, I don’t know if she wants an office just for
herself or a large office where her, the manager, and her nurses sit. The plan is to find a
building that has 4 pt rooms, 4 offices, and 1 one waiting room. The receptionist, thestudent
nurse can share the registration area. The office manager, Dr. Smith, and the two RNs will have
an office. There will be a couple bathrooms and some storage areas. One of the storage areas
will be a server room.
While searching for a building she needs to contact Capital Health Plan and the
Medicare and Medicaid office to work out a contract. She also needs to start looking for an
office manager with experience. This is her first business she can’t afford to have a manager
who doesn’t know how to run a medical facility she has to focus on the patients. Next she
needs to look for a receptionist and nurses. She can hire a couple registered nurses and two
students. The RNs will know the ropes already and can train the students who want to be
nurses after graduation. Being a receptionist isn’t that hard they basically have to check
patients in and out.
While she handles that I’ll check out the vacant building she has chosen and figure out the
layout to start seeing how the network cables will be ran if not already there. There will be a
computer and a printer in each PT room, all the offices, and two in the registration area. A fax
machine will also be set up most likely in the registration area. Servers will be bought and
placed somewhere off site in secure location and there will also be servers inside the office.
Since Dr. Smith is already familiar with the NextGen EMR system that Patient’s First used and
new face that will also set you apart
from other doctor offices
Opportunity to beat out her current
employers which are right next door
There are also several Family
Practice Physicians within a 10 miles
radius
Patient’s First is an established
company and is quite large
compared to Dr. Smith’s office
6. I’m familiar with EClinical Works I will use one of those systems. I’m not positive whether
NextGen has an integrated billing system but I know ECW does so if NextGen doesn’t we can
simply choose ECW.Having prior experience with EMRs will allow her to worry about other
things at hand. There will also be a phone system installed. I will use VOIP which is Voice Over
IP along with two land lines using RJ12 cables for emergencies. VOIP uses RJ45 cables and
connects to the computer. After some time has passed by I will add the mobile devices to the
equation and show her and the employees how to use them. The office equipment will also be
ordered that includes: desks, chairs, and other office essentials.
Security is one of the most important things in a medical facility so there will be cameras
put in the waiting room as well as the registration area where money will be located. To get
inside the doors swipe access will be required so IDs will be issued. Training and safety videos
will be put together as well as documents for HIPAA policies and procedures
After she stops working at Patient’s First she can start the final process of marketing for
new clients and also letting her old clients know if it’s possible. She can take out ads in the
paper and possibly get a commercial added to one of the local networks to promote and let her
old patients know her new location.
