My TEAM Biography so far… By Dan Art I have already learned so much from TEAM…can’t wait to learn even more!
Introduction… My name is Dan Art I am a math teacher at Oceanside Middle School. As a new teacher, I am very excited to be starting my career as an educator with all the knowledge I am learning from TEAM.
Life Before TEAM Computers have been part of my life for as long as I can remember… - My dad is the CIO (Chief Information Officer) at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he is in charge of computers for the entire hospital - My brother has always been really good at computers and technology. He now works for Symantec Norton Antivirus where he controls the security for large companies around the world
Life Before TEAM Even with this technological atmosphere I never had any interest in computers, maybe because it was almost overkill. It wasn’t until I got to college that my interest in computers and technology really started…and brought me to TEAM.
Currently… I am in my third semester at TEAM and loving every minute of it. I have discovered a passion for computers and technology that wasn’t there before. TEAM is helping me build the bridge between my own interest in technology and finding ways to implement technology into my teaching to benefit my students.
Collaboration Transitions: Hugo, Melissa, Scott, Ryan, and myself Research has shown that the hardest years on students are: Transition from elementary to middle school, & Transition from middle to high school Transitions was started originally by Melissa, Adam and Hugo during their Fall 2006 semester where they developed a PowerPoint & a video of their vision. When Scott, Ryan, and I joined TEAM in the Spring 2007 Transitions evolved into the very beginnings of an interactive website that students and parents could go to for help, answers, and information. http://eev3.liu.edu/hh0608/transitions/index.html
Successes in TEAM so far… I have had many successes in TEAM so far: Learning about great technologies (web 2.0 tools) Winning the Photo Contest in my Summer 2007 - Nature Photography course Meeting inspiring Long Island teachers who are in TEAM to become the best teachers they can be!
My Biggest Success in TEAM so far… My biggest success in TEAM so far has to be the teacher web page I developed this summer. Thanks to Ellen and Corinne (who introduced Wikispaces to me) I created a space on Wikispaces called MrArt. My space has: Separate pages for each class Discussion boards - where students can communicate with each other and me Chat with Mr. Art feature – where students can instant message me a question that can’t wait till the next day of school
My Biggest Success in TEAM so far… Video Tutorials - on how to use Mr. Art’s Teacher Web Page more effectively Calendar – an embedded calendar of important class and school events Helpful Links And because it is a wiki, it is very easy to maintain and is growing everyday Everyone at Oceanside Middle School seems to really like it, including my supervisor and the principal. I might even teach a course on how to use a wiki for a teacher web page some day soon. Mr. Art’s Teacher Web Page – http://mrart.wikispaces.com/
My Hopes and Dreams for the Fall 2007 semester… I want to learn more Web 2.0 tools Become more comfortable with all that I have already learned at TEAM: Audio Video Web 2.0 tools Learn more ways to implement technology into teaching
My Favorite Video on YouTube… These high school mathematics students took the time to write a rap song, then star in their very own rap video. I hope they got an A on this project! What You Know About Math? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9wq2WAH-Qk
