University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Lorenzo case study
1. IT Works have always done an excellent job to meet our local requirements for trainers, floorwalkers and
project managers, with flair, flexibility and good humour. The candidates themselves have been of
universally high quality and have integrated well with our local teams, because the IT Works team have
been exacting in understanding and meeting our requirements, often with challenging timescales and
budgets. I particularly value having a relationship where I do not get pestered with unsolicited calls and
emails and where I know I can rely on IT Works for a professional job.

Go live floor walking support
for Lorenzo
IT Works Recruitment LTD supplied 40 floorwalkers to provide additional support for one
month during and after go live for the First of Type Acute Lorenzo deployment
Background
Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General, Furness General, Queen Victoria, Ulverston Health
Centre, together employ over 5,500 staff, including some of Britain’s leading specialists. Individual
centres offer specialist care for children, heart attack, cancer, fertility, trauma and emergency care
patients from throughout the UK. The hospitals have over 1000 beds and manage over 10,000 out
patients a week. The geography is widespread covering over 1000 square miles.
The challenge
As part of the National Programme for IT, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust (UHMB)
were preparing to implement the first of type Lorenzo in an acute setting. The Trust required 40
additional floorwalkers and advice during go live on all sites
UHMB upgraded from their iPM system to Lorenzo They were aware of the importance of providing
thorough support to trust staff using the system both during and post go live. UHMB needed a team of
effective floorwalkers who were fully qualified and experienced in training and supporting Lorenzo in
line with the Trust’s standard operating procedures. Support was required in each location for the first
couple of weeks which continued at the larger sites for a further period. The Trust needed a certain
amount of flexibility in the supply arrangement as the number and location of floorwalkers required
was adjusted to meet the transaction needs and changing situations dictated by the end user needs.

2. The solution
IT Works Recruitment were able to offer UHMB a single point of contact throughout their post go live
period. IT Works took responsibility for coordinating the management of floorwalkers at all locations
and ensuring that all floorwalkers supplied by IT Works had enough information to be effective from
the moment they were on site. This included notifying them of locations and working hours, champion
users and where to base themselves each hour of the day in response to the needs of the service. By
adopting this approach, UHMB staff were supported during the initial stages of the project which was
reflected in the ability of the floorwalkers to respond to initial concerns on the ground. This
arrangement ensured that those issues which required face to face support were responded to The
Floorwalker lead met each day with the Lorenzo project team and IT helpdesk to review the issues
raised by the end users, which meant that lessons could be learnt and information disseminated to the
user base accordingly, as appropriate
IT Works Recruitment commissioned the supply the floorwalkers to support hospital staff during the
critical go live period. With our reputation of excellence and expertise in supporting Trusts through
PAS deployments, The Trust were confident in appointing IT Works to supply the required floor
walking support.
IT Works provided a total of 40 designated floorwalkers to assist the Trust during and post go live. Our
floorwalkers remained with the Trust for a total of one month. Having supported numerous Trusts
through new system implementation projects, we are fully versed in the special requirements for
assistance at this challenging stage. We have built up a team of high quality floorwalkers to help
ensure client’s health systems projects are successfully implemented with the minimum of fuss.
