What are the safety considerations?
The main safety consideration involved in the production
is using the machines and tools that can pose a danger
and should be used carefully.
Problem: A major high
street retailer wishes to
market a multi
purpose, modern style, small
coffee table aimed at the
first time buyer. The product
could include some storage
space. Design and make a
coffee table for this target
market.
Brief: I am going to design
and make a coffee table to
appeal to the target market
of ‘first time buyers’. , I will
design and make a coffee
table for the shop. To ensure
that the products are suited
to the target market I will also
complete a survey by asking
my audience what they
would prefer in the product.
When I have finished making
my product I will I test it and
modify it to an appropriate
standard.

3. WOODS AND JOINTS
USED
PINE- pine is a type of softwood,
mostly used for various types of
furniture. Such as, cupboards,
dressers, tables, beds.
Softwoods are evergreen trees, such as pine.
Hardwoods are deciduous trees, such as oak.
Manmade woods are woods not made from
trees, such as plywood. Man made wood is one of the 3 main woods. Man
made woods are not made from trees but are made
from hand. Man made wood is when you put the left
over’s of other wood together, such as saw dust and
forms a new piece of wood when you have got
enough.
The dowel joint is made the same way you
would screw a regular joint together only
pieces of dowel are glued and inserted into
holes instead of screws. By using pieces of
dowel over screws the joint becomes much
stronger and can be turned into an
appealing feature.

£15-20 and to be made of natural wood. Also,
they would prefer to have an art deco style
design and for it to have small draws as an
added feature.
