Editor's Notes
Good afternoon. De Dale Finley, kb5nft.
Before I start the presentation, I would like to give you a bit of HISTORY
I grew up in East Texas about 166 miles from Denton at NTSU in 1959
We used CB but never could reach that distance of course, so
I guess I used the phone, “Please Reverse the Charges” from the Fire Dept where I was a student fireman.
Could not reach here on CE of course.
Where I got my ham ticket with my son and my brother, we were working and supporting the families, so I NEVER TALKED TO THEM ON HAM RADIO
I GOT INTERESTED in the various modes of voice ham radio, SSB and how to talk that distance.
What you see and hear today is that I am NOT against HF radio .
I became interest ed first with Echolink, then Dstar and now lots of different methods and modes of both Analog and Digital ham radio.
I’m not a DX’er so getting involved with the first Dstar guys at K5TIT and learning how to ink and unlink repeaters and gateways….
WHY DO I USE VIRTUAL AND REMOTE BASE HAM RADIO METHODS
Some of you know I go to New Mexico in the summer to do Ham Radio with the boys, girls, staff and visitors at Philmont Scout Ranch. North Eastern NM
Our ham team’s GOAL is to show, tell and talk Ham Radio during our 7-10 day
Outreach.
I also RV to Eagle Nest, NM up in the mountains near Philmont.
We have several repeaters near Philmont but we focus mainly on HF.
I will try to cover as much of these topics as my time permits…
Some of these methods are Software Only and free.
Others presented use free software and some hardware, “like a dongle”.
WHAT IF YOU ARE TRAVELING or in an HOA environment, or in an RV Park?
What if you are in an Apartment or in a Retirement building?
ANTENNAS?????
What & How would you communicate?
NO time to do HF
NO local repeaters
NO Winlink Gateways
NO are distant DMR, Dstar, Fusion repeaters
