If you would have asked me 10 years ago what I was going to do with my life after college, I thought it was clear. I would be selling renewable energy, solar likely, and turning every blank slot of unused roof into energy making money machines. I’d be fixing global warming AND helping businesses thrive. One straight shot to success.
And then fast forward to today, and this is what my career ACTUALLY looked like. Let’s not miss “Ikea cinnamon bun slinger, and one of my favorites… Trevor Noah’s girlfriend. I mean cocktail waitress at a comedy club.
So who am I actually today? I’m an accumulation of all of my past experiences, jobs, and relationships. I’ve gotten pretty intimate with change. And I’ve gotten really good at switching my mindset to embrace short-term goals that align with my values so that I know I’m pointed in the right direction.
But I’ll tell you what. This wasn’t easy, and I didn’t always see life this way.
On the surface I was crushing it. I had a good-paying job, working with influencers, and maybe even slowly becoming a bit of a growth hacking influencer myself. I found myself on stage in multiple countries and extending my comfort zone.
Just two years ago this is what my evenings consisted of. Coming home from work, exhausted, pouring myself a drink, watching VICE News, going to bed helpless, lonely, and waking up exhausted to repeat the process.
And then I hit a tipping point. While preparing for a 500 person conference I was producing, I got my first migraine. And let me tell you it WOKE ME UP. I can’t live my life this way, I thought to myself. I want something more, I want to live, I want to do something for MYSELF. Where I have the control, for better or for worse.
I realized I was tying my self worth to the success of my company, I had been working my ass off since I was 14, yet I hadn’t taken the time for myself.
No fast forward to today. I’m now a yoga teacher that’s taught in 4 countries while traveling Europe. I speak internationally on topics I care about, and I work with a few clients that I genuinely enjoy working with. I’ve taken control of my life and am slowly piecing together the life I want to live.
Now I want to share with you the steps I took to get to this place.
