Nombre: ________________________ Prof. ________________ Español 1001 1st draft, Composición #2 Mi familia, mis amigos y yo In three well-developed paragraphs describe yourself, your family and/or your friends. Be as clear and precise as possible. First give a detailed description of yourself, including where you are from, your age, what you look like and what your favorite activities are. After you describe yourself, give a complete description of your family and/or friends: what are their names, what do they look like, where do they live, what do they do for a living, and what are their favorite hobbies? Edit your work carefully for grammar and organize the information in a logical manner. Your composition should be at least 250 words in length and should include an introduction and conclusion. Revision After you finish your composition, proofread your work (3 times minimum – take a break between each revision; a day or so is ideal, at a minimum two hours or three) and always work on a hard copy (this creates some distance between you and your writing and allows you to manipulate the paper copy in a more controlled way (you can go back or move forward to previous portions of the text as many times as you want): 1. Is it interesting? Great! Will it make your reader yawn and feel like having a double espresso shot? Change it. 2. Is your typed version double-spaced? If not, double-space it now. 3. Did you use punctuation correctly? How about accent marks (tildes)? Did you verify that there are no spelling, grammatical mistakes? Any errors? If yes, fix them. 4. Did you double check to see if all your adjectives and articles agree with the nouns they modify? If they don’t. Fix them now. 5. Did you check verb morphology (conjugation)? If you didn’t, do it now. 6. Did you use at least 10 different words like por eso, y, también, pero, o, etc. to connect your ideas and enrich the interest level of your writing? If you didn’t, add them now. 7. Do your paragraphs lack a topic sentence? If they do, fix this problem. 8. Did you treat your paragraphs as separate ideas? If you did, use transitions. Transitions are a great way to turn disconnected writing into a unified whole. Keep in mind that is the first draft of your composition and you will have the opportunity to improve upon what you write today. For your second draft, limit yourself to correct all errors. Do not add any new information or expand upon the existing one. Learning from your instructor’s feedback is an effective way to improve your writing. ...
