The digifolio International Seminar May, 22 to 24, 2008 Helsinki We would like to present the idea that Digifolios have a bigger role than that of assessing students’ learning. It can in fact also be used to aid the development of one’s digital professional identity, which is becoming quite important in the current job market. Online recruitment is now a reality. It has, in fact, become a rather frequent strategy to find new employees. Employers have also started to “google” their future staff in search of relevant information. Electronic portfolios are thus turning into the new job passport. It enables professionals to provide a more tangible evidence of their formal and informal life learning path. The easy read-write web has also provided people with a wider range of professional development opportunities, which otherwise would have been more difficult to have access to or engage with. The recent web advancements have also enabled the individual to be in real publishing situations, where he/she can develop his/her own voice and pursue more personalized learning routes freely. Individuals are now able to develop their own Digifolio independently of the institution they are associated with and keep it afterwards – as it is becomes part of their identity.
