Editor's Notes
In summer or winter, mainland Portugal’s highest mountain is the perfect scenery for a few relaxing days in contact with nature. At 1,993 metres at its highest point in Torre, Serra da Estrela is an area of rare landscape beauty, with striking mountain drops, where you can have a deep experience of the silence of the heights. Take advantage of those moments of communion with nature to observe it, discovering the diversity of plants and birds and the flocks of sheep herded by Estrela dogs from the breed named after the Mountain.

.The town of Seia offers breathtaking views of the surrounding plains.
Its biggest attraction are the Toy Museum, Bread Museum -Bread Museum-show the techniques and artifacts traditionally used in bread production.
and Natural Museum of Electricity as well as the Interpretive Center of Serra da Estrela (CISE).
This small village also offers a vast amount of restaurants and hotels, just choose where you want to enjoy your stay. The most interesting area that I saw was a small square, with the public library, Misericordia church, st Paul's chapel, and a fountain.
Seia has an annual cinema festival called CineEco focuses on films with ecological and natural themes.
Seia’s economy is based on local activities embedded in historical tradition, geographic, cultural and social specificity. The sheep are at the heart to the Serra da Estrela
and the local economy is linked to the products obtained from sheep: wool , milk and meat.
Pick a dry, clear day; pack a picnic lunch; and resolve that you will unabashedly entrust your soul to the charms of Central Portugal, a natural area so rich in flora and fauna, you would think the place was fictional.
If you’re looking for winter adventure, it’s all here.
We have different kinds of Radical Sports in Serra da Estrela like: Ski, Snowboard and Snowshoes.
Waterfall located near Caldas de Manteigas (approximately 10 km from Manteigas and 6 km from Caldas, with signs in the zone), in Serra da Estrela, Portugal.
It is a place of great natural beauty, ideal for a break during your passage by Serra da Estrela.
To get here, if you have your own vehicle drive about 4 miles down the main road to the Tower, and after passing Manteigas’ Springs you’ll find directions to Poço do Inferno; there’s also a hiking trail from the town of Mantegias to the waterfalls, the course beginning in a paved road located between the gas station and tourism post.
Vale Glaciar do Zezere, Serra da Estrela
Serra da Estrela has the ideal setting for leisurely walks while breathing fresh and pure air. The best time for hiking is between May and October, which is when the weather conditions are quite favorable.
However, in late April, you can already do some hiking if properly prepared: the weather is still cold and damp but the slopes are covered with glitter and flowers – the beginning of spring. Keep in mind that winter is very harsh given the altitude of Serra, so in the remaining months we advise against this practice.
There are lots of campingsites in the area of Seia
