The poem describes the devastation caused by a powerful typhoon that hit the Philippines, with houses and trees collapsing, people pleading and crying as winds and rain battered the area. Though the storm has passed, it left widespread destruction, with entire towns destroyed, thousands struggling to survive without shelter, food or water. However, the people remain resilient and focused on rebuilding their lives despite being tired, weak and strained in the aftermath of the deadly storm.

1. Rising from the Storm

Waves surge against the land,
People experienced, yet unprepared.
For the tumult, the turmoil, the terror, the fear,
The typhoon is in the air!
Houses are collapsing! Trees are falling!
Due to the harsh rain and heavy winds!
People are pleading! Children are crying!
For the sun to rise up again!
Yet alas the storm has come to a close,
After losing all of its power.
But the pain, destruction, devastation, and disaster,
Has cost the victims many hours.
Towns are gone! People are dead!
And thousands are trying to survive!
No shelter, or food, or family and water,
Yet people are fighting to stay alive!
People are hopeless, begging for food,
Yet remain strong, tough, and willing.
They are tired and weak, and their muscles are strained!
But they still focus on their rebuilding!
So as these people face the destruction,
Of the deadly typhoon Haiyan,
Let us praise with joy and thanksgiving for all,
And pray and help as we can!
So let us emulate the spirits of the broken people,
Who will rise up once again!
As they face the hard challenges of life,
Together, hand in hand!
