The Direct and Indirect
Approach
Use these approaches to decide how you will present
your message to an audience.
Direct: used when you know your audience will be
receptive, state your main idea first then provide details
and evidence.
Indirect: used when the audience will be displeased or
skeptical of your message, start message with evidence
and details before stating main idea.
“You” Attitude
The “you”attitude means speaking and writing in
terms of your audiences wishes, interests, and
preferences.
Instead of using words such as I, me, us, we,
mine, and ours use the words you and your.
Always make sure to focus on your reader's
needs.
AIDA Approach
Attention: grab the audiences attention, make them what
to read your message
Interest: give details that will help your audience relate to
your message and main idea
Desire: explain how this will benefit your audience, what is
in it for them, why do they need this
Action: Explain how your audience needs to take action,
and when they need to do this
How to Write a Proper Resume
Always include a cover letter that is short, to the point and use the AIDA
approach to explain why you are the perosn they need for the job.
In your resume, highlight your best qualities. If you have more work
experience than education, emphasize your experience and
accomplishments, or the other way around if you have more education
rather than experience.
If you receive an interview, come prepared, presentable, confident, and
ready to answer any questions regarding your resume and come with
questions for the interviewer about the position and/or company.
After the interview, be sure to send a follow up letter thanking them for

When writing a negative message, be sure to:
Carefully organize your message

Be clear and precise
●
Back up your position
●
Stay away from bias language
●
Use indirect approach for news that may be a shock to
the audience
●
Use direct approach for business situations.

  • 3. The Direct and Indirect Approach Use these approaches to decide how you will present your message to an audience. Direct: used when you know your audience will be receptive, state your main idea first then provide details and evidence. Indirect: used when the audience will be displeased or skeptical of your message, start message with evidence and details before stating main idea.
  • 4. “You” Attitude The “you”attitude means speaking and writing in terms of your audiences wishes, interests, and preferences. Instead of using words such as I, me, us, we, mine, and ours use the words you and your. Always make sure to focus on your reader's needs.
  • 5. AIDA Approach Attention: grab the audiences attention, make them what to read your message Interest: give details that will help your audience relate to your message and main idea Desire: explain how this will benefit your audience, what is in it for them, why do they need this Action: Explain how your audience needs to take action, and when they need to do this
  • 6. How to Write a Proper Resume Always include a cover letter that is short, to the point and use the AIDA approach to explain why you are the perosn they need for the job. In your resume, highlight your best qualities. If you have more work experience than education, emphasize your experience and accomplishments, or the other way around if you have more education rather than experience. If you receive an interview, come prepared, presentable, confident, and ready to answer any questions regarding your resume and come with questions for the interviewer about the position and/or company.
