The European Development Fund (EDF)
• The EDF funds cooperation activities in the fields of economic development, social and
human development as well as regional cooperation and integration.
• The 11th EDF covers the period 2014-2020 with a global allocation of 30.5 BEUR
• It is composed of bilateral and regional programmes (INTRA-ACP, Central Africa, West
Africa & Southern Eastern Africa regions)

Why? Traditional development assistance alone cannot meet the challenge of achieving sustainable
development
How? A fundamentally new approach to the way the EU supports development and delivers support for
investment projects in countries outside Europe
