The story describes an interaction between a cicada and ants. The cicada mocks the ants for constantly working while it does nothing but sing all day. When winter comes, the cicada has no food while the ants are prepared. The hungry cicada asks the ants for help, and they allow it to stay only if it entertains them by singing and dancing. The queen teaches the cicada that work must come before enjoyment.
