This document outlines the preproduction planning for an animated Lego film. It includes: 1) A 5 shot storyboard showing the build up of Lego bricks to form a can design. 2) Details on filming the animation in the author's room using Lego bricks and artificial lighting. 3) A production schedule to film from April 5th onwards after setting up the location on April 2nd-4th. 4) Mention of the need to create production call sheets detailing the shooting schedule, location details, and safety information. 5) A risk assessment found the chosen indoor location to be very safe and unaffected by weather.

1. Preproduction planning
Story board –shot one, mass of Lego bricks cross fades in the a empty backing Lego board‐ shot two,
build‐up of Lego bricks on a Lego board that is resting against the wall‐ shot three, the design
becomes more clear as the bricks build up and up‐ shot four the can design becomes visible‐ shot
five, the cans starts to fade into the real can with a caption ‘be creative’ and then cross fades out
into a blank screen.
Location reconnaissance‐ the location for the filming will be in my room as I have Lego to make the
animation. There is space to make the animation and I have a camera to shoot it. Will need to set up
artificial lighting in my room rather than just relying on natural day light as natural day light will cast
shadows as the day goes on and will spoil the shots. I could just take a photo of the backing board
(green) and then take individual photos of various bricks and then add them to adobe flash and then
duplicate the bricks as needed for each shot i.e. there will only be one brick but it will build up parts
of an image. This will be better than taking each and every photo individually as I may not have
enough bricks to complete the image depending on the size. To get the main photo of the can I will
have to take a picture of a real shot of the can and then pixelate it so that it will look like Lego and
this will be my template for where I put the Lego bricks.

Production call sheets‐ I will have to make a production call sheet which will include things such as
when and where the shooting will take place and it will also include which scene’s and page will be
shot for the day or days. The sheet will also include transport information, parking instructions and
safety notes. It may also include things such as sunrise/ sunset, weather information, local hospitals,
restaurants and local hardware stores.
Risk assessments‐ I have conducted a risk assessment of the location of where I will be filming, and
from that I have come to the conclusion that the location will be very safe and it will be a good
location as it will not be hindered by the weather so I can film not matter what it is like outside.
