TWC Media Release - Truffle Season 2017
1. pg. 1
MEDIA RELEASE – 15th May 2017
Excitement Builds for the Imminent Arrival of Truffle Season 2017 at The Truffle & Wine Co.
Michelin-Star Chefs, epicurious cooks and foodies alike all wait with baited breath each year for the
beginning of truffle season. Final preparations are now underway as dogs refresh their hunting acumen; and
harvesters glove-up and test out their knee pads, for the gruelling but exhilarating work that it takes to
unearth fresh Australian Black Truffle.
General Manager Michael Lowe shares his excitement for the upcoming season:
“The Truffle & Wine Co. is a very special business, which has earned a reputation for being the largest
producer in the Southern Hemisphere of one very special product – black truffle. All the care we have
taken over the season tending to our truffière has bought us to this point. Now with our hunters and their
dogs ready to go, gourmands the world over have only a few short sleeps before they can feast on our
beautiful fresh black truffles.”
The Truffle & Wine Co. began from humble beginnings 20 or so years ago, with a small group of investors,
hard work, passion and determination. Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength and is on
track yet again to produce more than half of Australia’s total production of black truffle (dirty weight). Most
of the black truffles (Tuber melanosporum) grown on our Manjimup property are exported overseas, to an
international following of Chefs and distributors.
High-end restaurants across Australia (including Vue de Monde in Melbourne, Guillaume’s in Sydney, and
many more) can’t wait for the season to start so they can source fresh black truffles from The Truffle & Wine
Co. Indeed, Chefs all over the world (we export to 30+ countries) comment on the high-quality and
consistency of the black Périgord truffle produced at our Manjimup farm. It has been suggested that the
purity of the Manjimup soil and air could have something to do with the wonderfully rich and delicate
flavour of our truffles.
The Truffle & Wine Co. also boasts a Cellar Door and a popular restaurant – “The Truffle Restaurant” – on
our Manjimup premises. Visitors to the Cellar Door (tens of thousands of visitors arrive from overseas
locations each year to have their own truffle experience!) also have the opportunity to buy fresh truffle
during their visit, after finishing off a sumptuous truffle-inspired lunch, topped off with an award winning
wine (offered under the Truffle Hill label).
At our truffière, we are one of only a small number of truffle growers in Australia who provide the public an
exclusive and up-close experience of a truffle hunt. For those lucky enough to book and get on a truffle hunt
they can see, feel, smell and truly experience how wonderful it is to see highly trained dogs hunt for these
“diamonds of the kitchen”. Any foodie would be delighted with such an experience. Check out our website
for details.
