1. On 10 Yarch 1958, Capt.· Harold E. Stahlman, Operations
OUicer, 764th Anti-Aircraft Operations Center (MOC), Fort Cla.yton
Canal. ZOne, reported i~ormation concerning the sighting of an
utdt!enti:Ued flying object•. At 2003B, 9 Uarch.1958, Stahlm.a.n. as
Depu~ DefeDSe Comaander for Anti-Aircraft Defe.ases, was notifie<i
at his home by the OperatioDSDutT Officer,' .!AOC, that the ,AOC
had :ece1ved a radar report of an un.1dentified a1rcraft approaching
the Pacific side of the.Istbmus of Panama. Stahlman arrived at the
AAOC.~t approximatelr 2008R. .
. During 'the radar "tracking of the first blip which appeared
on th~·radar screen, two additional blips were observed at 2045R.
The fi--st echo was. identified us a .Chilean Airlines aircra.:f"t which
landK at TocUJllen A.1rport, "l'ocUJllen, Republic of Panama.. The 1:90
other blips, which were DOt identified,. indicated that the two
objeci:3 were in the vlc1J:dty of Fort ]tobbe, Canal Zone. A. civilian
a1rcr~t in the Renera~ vicinity'of ~h. objects made a yisual ..
aearc of the area with negative results. The original blips were
picked up by Search Radar and then .transferred to the Track Radu
Unit l.ocated at :Flamenco Island, Fort Amador, Canal ZOne. This .

This vas such a. rapid movement, that the. Track Radar, which was
lockeci on target, broke the Track Lock and was unable to keep up
with ~ ascent of the objects·-. _As Track Radar can only be locked
on a solid object, which was done in the case of the two unidentified
~lying Objects, it was assumed that the objects were solid.
The possibility that the sightincs might have been weather balloons
was discarded when the Air Force was contacted and stated that no
balloons were in the·air at that time. (F-3)

cern!:g the sighting of an unidentified flying object by Search
Radar located on Taboga Is1&Dd, Republic of Panama. The following

764th AAA Bn, Fort Clayton, Ce.nal Zone, reported information received
from a Pan-American Airlines Pilot concerning an unidentifiec
flying object. At appronmately 0400R, il Jlarch1958, the p1lot of
incoming, aircra:rt C-509, a Pan American Airlines DC-6, observed·an
unidentified flying object 12 degrees North on Fox Trot route. The
object appeared larser than the aircraft and was 'traveling in a
Southeaste~ly direction. ; .
