The Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) is a state agency established by the Hawaii Constitution to better the conditions of Native Hawaiians and Hawaiians. OHA is governed by a board of trustees and led by a CEO. It is primarily responsible for programs and advocacy relating to Native Hawaiians and Hawaiians. OHA receives most of its funding from the Native Hawaiian Trust Fund, which holds revenues from ceded lands transferred to the U.S. upon Hawaii's annexation in 1898. As trustees of the fund, the board has fiduciary duties to act solely in the interests of Native Hawaiian and Hawaiian beneficiaries.
