The Politics Of The United States Essay
To the best of my knowledge, militarization can be interpreted as a state's search –through its
citizens, military, and government– for more power. This is due to the thought that by having power,
a state can protect itself from both external and internal enemies. By using a conservative lens,
militarization has created the image that power is related to both whiteness –in a historical context
as well as currently– and masculinity. The conservative nature of the military (and our nation as a
whole) tends to lag behind the social ideals of the general population. This lag has created tensions
between citizens and the military; while the citizen views of power has shifted liberally to
incorporate sexuality, gender, race, ethnicity, and class, the military has continued to use a
conservative lens in an attempt to normalize what defines power.
With the creation of the United States, came the creation of the United States citizen. Defined by the
Constitution, to become a citizen, one had to be white and own land. This original definition of
citizenship has continuously pressured society to view citizenship as a trait to masculinity. The
definition of citizenship through masculinity created the ideal that martial service was a duty of a
male in order for him to become a citizen. As our nation has aged, the parameters of what defines a
citizen has changed, allowing for the inclusion of both race and gender. Inclusion of citizenship as
well as a push for human rights

Sadomasochism Essay
Sadomasochism Sadomasochism is a sexually deviant behavior that is practiced by many people
within today's society. It is the combination of two paraphilias, sadism and masochism, which are
usually always linked together. An occasional mild or light form of sadomasochism (or S& M for
short), is considerably common among the general population. Many people often enjoy being
mildly dominant or submissive during lovemaking. They believe that it makes the experience more
enjoyable. But when S&M becomes the dominating feature of a person's sexuality, that is when he
or she is considered deviant. Unlike other paraphilias, sadomasochism includes a large population of
women as well as men. They are nearly equally balanced in ... Show more content on

Hypoxyphilia is a fairly common practice where a person chooses to enhance their sexual arousal by
voluntarily depriving himself or herself of oxygen. In order to become deprived of oxygen, people
usually use plastic bags, rope, or their partner's hands to choke their partner once consent is given.
This practice is dangerous and can possibly even result in a tragic death (Rathus, Nevid, &Fichner–
Rathus, p545–546). Masochism's counterpart, sadism, is the complete opposite for many reasons.
Sadism is a parphilia, which is characterized by the association of sexual satisfaction with the
infliction of pain or humiliation onto others. The term sadism refers to a French author and
philosopher, Marquis de Sade (1740––1814). Marquis de Sade wrote stories of people who became
sexually aroused by inflicting pain or humiliation on others. Some of his best known works are
Justine (published in 1791) and Juliette (published in 1797). A sadist receives sexual gratification by
role–playing. They usually play the authority figure who inflicts pain, humiliates, disciplines, and
plays master to another person (Ernulf&Innala, p637). Most sadists hurt and humiliate willing
partners who are usually masochists. A small minority of sadists may even attempt to stalk and
attack their unwilling victims. This is a very dangerous and harmful to its participants. In fact,
Sigmund Freud wrote extensively on sadism. In his research, he recognized its existence in the

Pro Mammatrix Research Paper
As some of you may or may not know, I used to be a Pro Dominatrix. The list of fetishes or kinks I
catered to in my past was a mile wide. Id like to touch on one in particular that I used to do called
Sissyfication. In other words, I would take men. dress them up as women, make them imitate
women and feminize them. For some, these actions I used to force upon them was an ultimate form
of humiliation. To srip them of their naatural manhood, and to subject them to imitate a woman was
so unnatural to them. Now I understand why many was so uncomfortable to this aspect of kink. It
was due to the fact that I was forcing them to be molding into something God had not created them
to be. Throught the years I discovered the many different facets of feminization. I had an uncanny
ability to push men, their boundaries and their limits because I had sixth sense of the things they

Sadomasochism Essay
Sadomasochism is defined as, "The giving or receiving of pleasure, often sexual, from the infliction
or reception of pain or humiliation. It can feature as an enhancement to sexual pleasure, or, in some
cases, as a substitute or sine qua non." (Burton, N) Pain can be used to encourage sexual arousal,
while the simulation of sadism can be a form to express an emotional attachment. Sadomasochistic
activities are, "Often initiated at the request of, and for the benefit of, the masochist, who often
directs activities through subtle emotional cues." (Burton, N) I do not believe that sadism and
masochism can truly be considered pathological as the morbidity of the acts are the root of
sadomasochism. As long as the acts are taking place between two

Cupping At The Rio Olympics 2016
Cupping has recently made headlines at the Rio Olympics 2016 when Michael Phelps, and several
Olympians have been spotted rocking huge round purple bruises in their backs. Sadly, these bruises
didn 't come from extreme BDSM play (though that would 've been a much better story to tell) but
rather came from another ancient therapy known as cupping. Cupping is an ancient therapy mostly
used in Middle Eastern and Asian countries. The therapy involves putting multiple warm round
suction cups in your back targeting the sore parts of your body. This process is believed to stimulate
muscles and blood flow. Back in the day, cupping therapy has been used to cure all kinds of ailments
including shingles, facial paralysis, and even acne. A 2015 study (Lauche et al., 2015) examined
whether cupping worked better than a sham–controlled treatment for patients suffering
fibromyalgia, a chronic disorder known to cause widespread pain, muscle stiffness, and even
depression. For this study, participants were put in one of three conditions (k=3): Cupping therapy,
sham cupping therapy, or the usual care condition. Those in cupping therapy and sham cupping
therapy condition received the treatment 2–5x a week. Conversely, those in sham cupping therapy
was administered using cupping glass with a hole on top which negates the pressure created by the
real cupping method. Subjects were blind in this study and not aware of any sham treatment. They
were told they would receive either traditional or

Is BDSM Still Deviant
Sexuality freedom is the new civil rights we are fighting for this decade. The practice of BDSM has
become a hot topic in our society lately since the book Fifty Shades of Grey went public in 2011.
BDSM is an acronym for bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, and sadism /masochism. The
term BDSM is defined as a variety of erotic practices involving power play. Now because this term
does not cover everyone in the kink community, known as an umbrella term, people are now starting
to use the term WIIWD, which stands for "What it is we do". I will be using symbolic interaction
theory to describe why BDSM is not deviant in our society today. Our society is always flowing and
changing with the environment around us. We have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, people are not frequently jailed or housed in mental hospitals For their private views. Unless
their actual practices break local laws by violating anothers informed consent or causing harm to the
point of death, sexual practices are mostly left to the realm of live–and–let–live. The US is still a
recently religiously, and therefore sexually puritanical society, But the fact that our generations
motto is "I can do whatever I want", plus the large community of BDSM lets me believe that the
world of vanilla people are actually the deviant ones in our society today. Almost all human
behavior has symbolic value to it, including sexual behavior. Biologically , we are driven to
reproduce, but this does not dictate who, when, where, what and how by which we choose to do so;
(Arany, 2013) social interaction is the driving force behind this. These characteristics are then
determined by what we have learned through our culture. BDSM community might stem from
mutual sexual fantasies but really its our first non–exclusionary group. When outside the bedroom
most of these kinksers would blend in with the rest of society. emphasizes that although reality is
constructed by our social interactions, our perceived reality, including those of a sexual nature are
not the same for everyone. It is critical that a situation is defined by the establishment of relevant
identities of those involved in the interaction. It is this construction that involves

Human Control In Gerald Barrax's To Waste At Trees
"Industrial and urban development destroy, modify, or degrade natural habitat" (Ray 16). The theme
of fragmentation, as described and qualified by author Janisse Ray, is a prevalent element in her
text, Pinhook. Specifically, in this quote from the book, the theme of fragmentation and the divisions
that result from the methods of human control over nature are apparent, like the work of the
corporate sector of the economy. The formation of an economy, the production of goods and
services, and a hierarchical system of employment are purely human creations and the ultimate
representation of human influence and control. Applying this idea to Ray's work and to specific

Indigenous people, the whistleblowers in this situation, exposing the pollution and destruction of the
environment that they see around them, are very committed to and believe strongly in the protection
of and the blessings of nature. They are an example of complicating evidence to the binary about
dominance and submission: it is not all people who exact their dominance and their dangerous
economic practices on nature, it is singularly the people who are using and abusing nature as a part
of their economic growth and development. Ultimately, people who become protectors of the land,
and who fight against the ways of the economically strong will be nature's answer to resisting
human domination. Industry relies heavily on natural resources, and so when the humans of the
world do not allow industry to exploit nature for their own gain, the binary between dominance and

Gender Roles In Nora And Torvald
The manipulative and twisted interaction between a man and a woman, what some considered a
"marriage", digs and buries the dominant and controlling nature of the superior into the obedient and
submissive nature of the weaker, the man and the woman. In the case of Nora and Torvald, the
chaotic and disorderly nature of their marriage is stimulated by the feeling that Nora is viewed as
nothing more than a "plaything" or "doll" for all the men in her life, whether it be her father or her
"husband". With years of living like some toy for her husband's entertainment there is a spark of
realization within Nora, that she is not some object that is solely for her husband's stimulation and
transfixiation of perfection and subservience, but she is also a person, a human, and she has rights
and she deserves to be respected as she is expected to respect her husband. With the realization of
the wronging she has endured in part because of her commanding and persuasive husband and her
controlling father, Nora flees from the responsibilities placed upon her by societal gender roles, and
the roles deemed necessary for her to fulfill while her husband must work, this revelation and act of
self justice is a deviation from what some deemed an inevitable tragedy for the family, in the aspect
that this is not the tragedy they imagined. In Henrik Ibsen's play A Doll's House, the character Nora,
often faced with the forced feminization of her doting father and dominant husband, reaches the
point in

She rushed home after work telling Rachael of her dinner plans for the night and she promised she

Lila had decided to go with something more casual since they weren't actually going out for dinner

Domestic Violence In Fifty Shades Of Grey
Fifty Shades of Grey is the worldwide phenomenon in which the main protagonist physically
abuses, stalks and tortures his so called 'love interest'. Although there have been several depictions
of abuse in films and novels, these recognise domestic violence as a disgraceful sin; allowing us to
suffer a somewhat less painful experience in the audience.
Personally, I didn't mind the novel's plot, which despite the racy sex scenes, is based on the young
university student Anastasia Steele falling in love with the young, rich, and alluring business man
Christian Grey. On screen however, 50 Shades is not the sexy love story promised.

Paraphilia's Theory Of Sexual Deviance
Sexual deviance is considered any sexual activity that is different than the normal, acceptable sexual
activities of a society, but is vital for the person to experience arousal and orgasm (Sadock, 2007).
The activities that are considered deviant can change over time and be different in different
societies. These are also known as paraphilias. A paraphilia involves an extreme and continual
sexual interest in children, objects, animals, materials, etc. or harming oneself or others during
sexual activity. Sometimes the sexual interest focuses on the person's own interests while in others it
focuses on the target of the person's sexual interest. For one to be diagnosed with one of these
disorders, the paraphilia would need to cause considerable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Medication is also helpful in reduction of fantasies and harmful behavior which is necessary for
those who participate in life threatening behaviors such as sexual asphyxiation (minddisorders.com).
Biological Theories of Sexual Deviance
Biological theories of sexual deviance focus on structural differences in the brain, the genetic and
chromosomal makeup, hormone levels, as well as defects in cerebral functioning. Although a
person's biological makeup does have a part in some paraphilias, those who research the causes have
yet to come to a conclusion on the exact reasoning behind them. It is thought that psychological
factors are more the central reasoning behind these behaviors and that some event or events that
occurred during childhood caused association of sexual pleasure with that event or object and a
paraphilia evolved. (Benuto, 2009).

Male Masochism in the Religious Lyrics of Donne and...
Male Masochism in the Religious Lyrics of Donne and Crashaw The impetus of my psychoanalytic
exploration of male masochism in Donne and Crashaw occurs in Richard Rambuss's "Pleasure and
Devotion: The Body of Jesus and Seventeenth–Century Religious Lyric," in which he opens up
possibilities for reading eroticism (especially homoeroticism) in early modern representations of
Christ's body. In this analysis, Rambuss opposes Caroline Walker Bynum who, in response to Leo
Steinberg's The Sexuality of Christ in Renaissance Art, claims that depictions of Christ's genitalia
(the focus of Steinberg's work) can only be regarded as erotic from a modern standpoint, for such
representations in historical context, before the advent of modern ... Show more content on

The main objection to such an analysis arises from assumptions underlying the rigid dichotomy of
spiritual/erotic––the insistence that that which is spiritual cannot be erotic, especially when joined to
physical or mental pain. Bynum's rationale for denying the possibilities of erotic meanings in
medieval and Renaissance texts lies not only in the distinction of the sexual/generative, but also in
this binary of spiritual/erotic. As Rambuss notes, Bynum refuses to acknowledge the erotic in
medieval and Renaissance religious texts because it appears to be deeply implicated in morbid
accounts of tortured "flesh," a characteristic she finds "extremely unerotic" (178), thus implying that
spirituality cannot be "sexual" (267). On the contrary, I would argue that the representation of
spirituality in terms of physical and mental anguish does not preclude the erotic; indeed, it indicates
its involvement in the erotic. Physical and mental torments lie at the heart of the erotic fantasies
underlying Christian mysticism and, in varying degrees, the discourses of medieval and early
modern Christianity, a belief system that revolves around the central sacrifice of Christ. As Julia
Kristeva has commented, "a whole ascetic, martyrizing, and sacrificial Christian tradition has
magnified the victimized aspect of that offering [Christ's death] by eroticizing both pain and
suffering, physical as well as mental, as much as possible" (131).

Essay on Gothic Conventions in The Bloody Chamber by...
Gothic Conventions in The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter
The Gothic is often distinguished by an atmosphere of terror, darkness, mystery, the unexplained
and the transgression of boundaries. This essay will attempt to dissect how Angela Carter uses
Gothic conventions in the passage taken out of her novel, 'The Bloody
Chamber'.
One of the most predominant conventions manipulated here is that of a dark and mysterious
atmosphere. Throughout the passage the feeling of terror prevails. This is first started by the
protagonist's taking of a "forbidden key". This stirs up a feeling of disquiet, as it implies a certain
degree of prohibition and disapproval towards her task. She later enforces that her bravery is
somewhat foolish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This gives the idea that urbanity cannot touch the place; technology is invalid there, and hence
adding to the obscurity of the atmosphere. She then adds that the castle was "adrift" and it
"floated…at (her) orders". This gives the story a fantastical twist.
By adding an element of magic and the supernatural, Carter has sowed the seed of doubt in the mind
of the reader as to the credibility of the story. It is a blurring of boundaries, where the surreal and
reality cannot be made mutually exclusive.
This idea of the supernatural is later picked up again in a painting,
"Rape of the Sabines", where the focuses of the picture "suggested some grisly mythological
subject". Here, the supernatural strikes terror as well, displaying itself in a horrific, but at the same
time, erotic, manner. This act of sexual brutality plays a role in creating the tension of the
atmosphere. Also, this is where inanimate objects are put in a sexual light – "rich breast of a
woman", "naked sword",
"naked stone". This could be because the writer is trying to suggest that in the castle, everything is
stripped down to its bare elements – everything is in its primal state, just as sex is a primal desire,
which will lead the protagonist to strip away the "garments" of her innocence; the heart of Man is
corrupt. This alludes to the Freudian theory of the Superego, the Ego and the Id. The Id is the centre

sexual related activity but for Chris's case the communication level is only with himself. Also an
overall message that relates to the two videos is that hurt versus harm is an important as it is shown
in the "Kink 101: understanding the kink community" article. With the giantesses it is important that
we are not harming others or in Chris's case harming ourselves.

False Representation Of Bdsm
According to the Merriam–Webster dictionary, representation is defined as a bias portrayal of
someone or something that is being depicted in a certain nature, where as reality is the actuality of
the world or the state of things as they exist. There is much harm in the conflicts that arise when
something is being wrongly represented, not only for the people that are being represented but for
the people looking into and out of the representation. This is where stereotypes are formed and is the
core of the judgements among different races, cultures, genders, and groups of people. In the world
of the BDSM culture, the practitioners of this lifestyle are and have been stereotyped for their
lifestyle choices, which has lead to a false representation that is not only hurting the members of this
culture but also curious onlookers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sadism in the Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe
The tell–tale Sadist:
Sadism and Masochism in "The tell–tale heart"
Many of Poe's tales portray characters which intently harm other creatures or people and enjoy the
process of doing so. This tendency which Poe himself called "the spirit of perverseness"(Poe 10) in
The Black Cat is described as the need to cause pain to other being without any reason, evil per se.
However, from a psychological point of view, this spirit of perverseness would be labeled as sadism
and its source may be traced by making a deep analysis of the character's psyche. It will be posed
that the character participant narrator in the tell–tale heart does not kill the old man as an act of pure
evilness or spirit of perverseness, but rather the source of his/her ... Show more content on

This does not mean that sadism is a common feature of men's sexual behaviour, it is a sexual
aberration but gender influences this tendency. Besides aggression, according to Lacan, is
represented through certain images "for example castration, mutilation, devouring" (Glowinsky,
2001) and it should be born in mind that the narrator mutilates his victim in order to hide it, which
provides extra evidence of the narrator's aggressiveness. In addition, a homosexual love for the old
man would create a greater conflict in the mind of the narrator and a greater difficulty to fulfill his
sexual desire in a normal way.
"It can often be recognized that the masochism is nothing but a continuation of the sadism turning
against one's own person in which the latter at first takes the place of the sexual object." ( Freud,
1914)
Indeed, masochism seems to derive from the sadist drive. It is usually believed that victimizer
becomes victim given certain circumstances and this may provoke pleasure as well. In the
philosophy of composition, Poe unintentionally provides a good definition of masochism by talking
about "the human thirst for self–torture." Indicating the eagerness of men to feel displeasure or even
pain, this may be done in innocent ways (by suffering through fiction) or by remaining or looking
for situation that might be painful. In the tale–tell heart, the murderer after having tormented the old

that they think of as well. "By stigma, we mean that a person is recognized or labeled as having

Sex"). When people think about BDSM their thoughts are usually negative, associating BDSM
purely with pain, but "the idea that all BDSM play involves pain is a common misconception: many
play activities are focused not on pain, but rather on psychological power exchange" (Hebert).
Usually, stigmas are accepted by the general public, but according to Hebert, the stigmas about
BDSM are usually accepted by medical and legal professionals as well. "In particular, it is
commonly believed that those who participate in BDSM must be psychologically disturbed."
Because of these stigmas associated with BDSM, people act and treat BDSM practitioners
differently than those who do not practice BDSM. In a study done by Ali Hebert and Angela

several practitioners of BDSM. The very first disadvantage listed in Hebert and Weaver's study were

With the rise of books like Fifty Shades of Grey, there are many questions being asked about what
the real effects of BDSM (bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and
masochism (sadomasochism)) relationships are on participants (Turley et al 123, McDonald).
There's the question of where the boundary between abuse and recreational play is drawn, where the
psychological implications of the relationship becomes too much for the individual, but all of that
can be boiled down to just a few points to explore. In order to really understand what all comes with
these relationships, we must look at the experiences of participants, seeking to understand what

understanding of what the scenes are made of, along with what they are built upon, that we can
begin to focus on what BDSM is for an individual.
These relationships go beyond many other types in requiring participants to trust each other enough
to give up or receive some kind of power in relation to the other. Even when the

A Discussion On Sexuality And Sexually Transmitted...
The end of this week marks another week down which leaves only two more to go. With this week
coming to a close, I am another step to closing out my bachelors and hopefully starting my Masters
in Cybersecurity with Excelsior in October. Despite the heavy workload with class I think this will
be a good preparation for me as I get myself in the frame of mind to start on the Masters. However, I
have to first make it through these last two weeks. This week focused was on sexually transmitted
infections/diseases and sexual development throughout life. As usual, there were multiple
assignments. We had our normal issue from the Taking Sides text, though it was only one this week,
a discussion on sexuality in later life, the quiz and this wonderful three page reflection paper.
Additionally our annotated bibliography was due this week. As usual, I will start with this week's
reading from the Taking Sides text. This week was slightly different in that we were given only one
topic to read and discuss. The article discussed opposing views on whether or not sexting was
considered safe sex. For my initial opinion on the topic, it seemed obvious to me that it was not a
form of safe sex. In my mind people would have to be able to physically touch one another to
actually have sex. Sexting is no different than reading an adult magazine or watching an adult movie
or better yet phone sex. In essence you are doing it as a prelude to masturbation or in lieu of actually
having sex. When I

What 's Wrong With Fifty Shades?
What's Wrong with Fifty Shades?
Throughout history, novelists have been writing about romance, from William Shakespeare's
"Romeo and Juliet" to Margaret Mitchells "Gone with the Wind". Readers can find a romance novel
about any type of love they can possibly imagine. From the perfect romance where a prince sweeps
you off your feet or a rough around the edges cowboy that is stubborn but you know he means well.
Romance novels are over the top, feel good books, but just recently a new novel came out, by the
author E.L. James called Fifty Shades of Grey. This series of novels is not the first of its kind but for
various reasons, Fifty Shades of Grey dominated bestseller lists. Even though it truly blurred the line
between a loving consensual relationship and an abusive one. Why did the trilogy become so
popular or unpopular? There are people who love it and those who hate it as well.
The Fifty Shades trilogies first novel came out May 25th, 2011 and has since "entered the all–time
top–selling books list with a total worldwide sale of 100 million copies. At the peak of its popularity,
one book was being sold every second somewhere in the world." (Russon) Being in the category of
erotic romance novels it's hard to believe that so many copies have been sold. There are so many
speculations as to why this had become and still is such a popular book. One of those ideas being
that it was a way for lonely housewives who were bored with their own love lives to enter some sort

What Does Bdsm Mean In Fifty Shades Of Grey
BDSM That You Won't Learn In "Fifty Shades Of Grey"
M – Learn some BDSM facts that you will not learn in the movie Fifty Shades of Grey.
BDSM Does Not Always Involve Sex – BDSM does not always involve sex because it is mostly a
mental stimulation carried out with physical actions that produces pleasure–pain. The skin organ has
arousal receptors sensitive to the touch delivering a full–body intense experience with spanking,
massaging, and skin–tight clothes. The mental stimulation is what produces the orgasmic feelings,
not the physical sex act.
The Submissive Person Does Have Some Control During The Encounter – The submissive person
does not give up their free will during a BDSM scene. They can always say no to a sex act and let

The reality is that people are not waking up in dungeons forced to do things against their will.
Moreover, it is not a 'dangerous' thing to perform BDSM, but more of a kink that gives off the
illusion of being held captive with no control. Furthermore, BDSM is not dangerous or abusive at all
and is in fact comfortable and fun!
Mentally Healthy People Practice BDSM – Performing BDSM does not mean that you are weird,
mentally unstable, or the odd ball out of the group, in fact, studies show that it is good for you! A
2013 study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine concluded that most BDSM practitioners are mentally
sharp, live with a purpose, and have a higher well–being than those who do not practice BDSM.
BDSM Require Research & Practice – Most people think they can just get into BDSM scene
without doing any research or practice what they have seen on television. This is a mistake. but
Doing BDSM the right way require much research and practice, unless you have a professional
escort or a friend who you trust who can ease into the role and properly introducing you into the
world of BDSM. People who do not practice or do research may end up hurting themselves or their
partners, so it is imperative to read and learn about the safety precautions ahead of time. Make sure
to get information from a variety of sources including reading books and talking to friends for the
necessary knowledge to really get an angle

BDSM And Demographic Study
BDSM is a taboo topic for most and often times the people who practice it are persecuted. When
most people think of submissives or dominants within BDSM, they believe that the practitioners are
in some way mentally disturbed. However, there is research that has found evidence which
contradicts this thought. One study used scientific scales to measure how much of a specific set of
traits each role appeared to contain and whether this was abnormal in comparison to normative data.
The other study interviewed several practitioners from both roles on what traits they thought suited
them for their own roles and which ones suited those of the opposite role. I am hoping to understand
why people feel the need to submit to or dominate others and I also ... Show more content on

It was also thought that dominants might score higher on extraversion than submissives because
greater confidence might be necessary to ensure that BDSM play goes well and ends successfully.
However, dominants did not score higher than submissives on conscientiousness which was
surprising, but it might be due to the fact that submissives must be careful to ensure their safety.
Dominants actually ended up scoring higher on self–esteem than submissives though this might be
due to the validation they receive during BDSM play. They found that in general well–being,
openness to experience, altruism, honesty–humility, and agreeableness, there was little no
significant difference between submissives and dominants. They thought that all the traits except
altruism were likely caused by a need for care and empathy during BDSM play. However, altruism
was lower than normative data. This might be similar to how a persecuted group acts. Submissives
did score higher on emotionality than dominants perhaps because it is important for dominants to be

Correlation Between Domestic Violence, Rape, And Assault
Law Enforcement
The negative portrayals and stigmas attached to BDSM has made it difficult for the community to be
understood by society. This is especially the case with the justice system. There has been an
association created between domestic violence, rape, and assault with BDSM acts. There is no
denying that domestic violence, rape, and assault occur in BDSM, but one should not generalize an
entire community based on the acts of a few individuals. This stigma attached to BDSM does create
issues for the community; especially when the justice system becomes involved. For example, for
several individuals calling the police after engaging in a BDSM activity may be difficult due to the
negative image and potentially embarrassing labels attached ... Show more content on

For instance, many dominatrices are being portrayed as prostitutes in society because of how
commercialized it has become. The act of being a dominatrix has been shifting into a spectrum of
making a decent amount of money in a short time frame, in which the authenticity of being a
dominatrix has lost its identity because more women are making it into a profession instead of
viewing it as a lifestyle (Lindemann, 2010). Even though authentic dominatrices do not participate
in penetrative sex, more individuals are treating BDSM play as a form of prostitution because there
has been a change of symbolic meaning concerning BDSM sex as a lifestyle to prostitution. This
then creates an even more fragmented view of what a dominatrix lifestyle involves, in which further
stigma will be associated with BDSM. A consequence of the fragmented construction of BDSM sex,
especially as a dominatrix, is when the submissive begins to take control when paying for certain
sexual acts like one would pay a prostitute, in which the dominating role is taken away from the
dominatrix (Lindemann,

Common Misconceptions Of BDSM Practitioners
Health
Mental Health
One of the most common misconceptions about BDSM practitioners is that these individuals are
psychologically disturbed. Through symbolic interaction it can be understood that the general public
perceives BDSM practitioners as deviant and mentally ill. BDSM practitioners are portrayed to have
a lot of emotional baggage; therefore, to non practicing individuals, people who practice BDSM
have major psychological issues. Due to this misinformation, the general public has created a
negative image of the BDSM practitioners, and this image has lead the general public to fear
BDSM. However, it is important to note that BDSM is not rooted from abuse or domestic violence,
nor does participating in BDSM mean that one enjoys receiving abuse or abusing. According to
Holt's (2015), when it came to the question concerning the stereotype that BDSM practitioners had
been abused in the past, several did report history of abuse during childhood and young adulthood.
However, Holt (2015) noted that several participants expressed mixed emotions when asked about
one's history of abuse that ties with one's participation in BDSM. In contrary to common belief,
people who practice BDSM are as psychologically healthy as the general population. In a cross–
sectional study conducted in the Netherlands, 902 individuals who practice BDSM were recruited,
and compared to 434 control participants who had absolutely no experience with BDSM (as cited in
Lehmiller). The participants filled

Sexism In Christian Grey
Christian Grey in 2015 film Fifty Shades of Grey, originally a novel by E. L. James, is the man of all
women's dreams. Young, good–looking, successful, wealthy, well–mannered, charismatic, fit, and
sexy. He takes consent in a sexual relationship extremely seriously, so much so that he creates a
whole legal contract for a woman to sign before engaging in sexual activities. For Anastasia, the
film's female protagonist, he escorts her on his private helicopter, gives her the most extravagant
presents, and even pays for her birth control pills. How generous of him. On top of all that, he's hot,
so the audience exits the cinema applauding how Christian Grey is extremely attractive and perfect.

Christian's manipulation of Anastasia is especially notable, as he eventually brings Anastasia along
on BDSM practices that she never had a passion for. All he had to do was simply justify his violent
tendencies to Anastasia and the audience, which he successfully fulfills through the veil of
generosity. On the surface, Christian does all things that a heterosexual woman may want. He makes
time to meet Anastasia, he buys her luxurious presents that she could have never afforded on her
own, takes her on adventures such as glider–riding, respects her input on sexual matters, and lets her
into his personal boundaries by sharing intimate stories about his sorrowful early life. Such
behavior, however, only functions to disguise Christian's sexual violence and maniacal attachment to
Anastasia, and portray him as a charismatic romantic. Fifty Shades of Grey, once it was released,
became the ultimate sexual fantasy for heterosexual women around the world, implementing an idea
that male authoritativeness is "okay" as long as he covers himself as a generous (and hot) knight in
shining armor. With the second movie of the series, Fifty Shades Darker, on the verge of its release,
the concern deepens – for how long will Christian be seen behind his

Film Review : Nineteen Shades Of Grey
Film Review: Fifty Shades of Grey
Directed by Sam Taylor, a 2015 American romantic and erotic film Fifty Shades of Grey gained a
huge box office success earning over 571 million dollars worldwide (Mendelson). The film is
written by British Author E. L James and among the star cast are included Dakota Johnson playing
as Anastasia Steele and Jamie Dornan playing as Christian Grey (James). This essay analyzes the
film and characters in terms of their relationship and different features of the story line. The story
revolves around the sadomasochistic relationship between a young college graduate, Anastasia

For Christian, the relationship was neither friendship nor love, but he was more interested in a
BDSM (bondage, domination, sadism & masochism) sort relationship in which he wanted Ana to
play as his submissive and he as a dominant for fulfilling his sexual desires (Reenen 223–233). The
film has been criticized by many feminists as it depicted male as a dominant and controlling person
in a relationship and female as a weak a clumsy personality.
Christian wanted to control everything according to his own desires, and a giant agreement
containing details about their sexual relationship was put forward for Ana. The agreement contained
the safe limits and words and details regarding the sexual acts the two would take part in (Butt 62–
76). The movie follows Ana's decision that whether she would be able to sign the contract which is
against her desires and expectations for love and sex or whether she would be able to move away
from Christian as a consequence of not signing the lengthy contract.
The characters in the movie have used simple language and short sentences, and this attracts a
broader audience, and the movie provides a fast and romantic plot. The movie is for adult population
and contains more or less four to five sex scenes and the patronizing storyline, and corny dialogues
grab attention of audience, but the movie is also criticized by many (Steussy). At the end of the
movie, Christian punished

The Psycological Effects of Masochism and Sadism
The Psychological Causes and Effects of Masochism and Sadism
Katelyn Mueller

Human Sexuality
December 6, 2015
Abstract
Masochism and sadism are very alike in nature. Masochism is a sexual perversion characterized by
pleasure in being subjected to pain or humiliation; especially by a loved object. Sadism is the
pleasure in being abused or dominated. Sadists have a taste for suffering. Masochism could be a
means of escaping from one's self. It could be a temporally extended identity. The awareness of
one's self is replaced by the focus on immediate present and on bodily sensations. Psychologists
have found that the principle feature of masochism such as pain, bondage, and humiliation help
accomplish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the past, masochists have been labeled as extremely disturbed, but recent studies show a
surprisingly different picture. Empirical observers think that practicing masochists are normal, at
least when it comes to their nonsexual activities.
Whether sexual masochism is considered pathological depends on whether one accepts the sexual
practices of masochists as symptoms. If someone does not judge the sexual patterns alone in these
masochist behaviors, then the majority of the people who are considered masochists appear to be
normal and healthy. It is said that participating in sadomasochistic relations is compatible with a
normal, sane, and even a successful life.
The prevailing theoretical position since Sigmund Freud has been that masochism is derived from
sadism. In some clinical experiments, sadism is possibly the main attraction. It is also possible that
the mentally ill are drawn to inflicting pain rather than receiving it. Most theorists have thought that
there is a strong link between masochism and sadism and have accentuated sadism. It is apparently
the more important and essential pattern. A lot of evidence contradicts these views. Masochism is far
more common than sadism. The number of submissive people outnumbers the number of dominant
people. The pattern in which one partner wants to dominate but the other partner is reluctant to
submit is very rare. The only study that

Pornography Abuse And Violence Against Women
There are obvious problems with society today regarding the presence of sexual violence and rape.
The cause of these crimes is difficult to isolate, as it is also difficult material for researchers to
complete studies on. We need a better definition of abuse, and it needs to be stated that the
intelligence and mental instability can affect a man's actions. There can be a place in relationships
for pornography as well, where women are consenting and desire to explore different material, not
necessarily being dehumanized. While Fight the New Drug and Samantha Grey, the author of, "A
Letter to Men: Porn is Not Just Women's Problem," both present claims that pornography
consumption leads to violence against women, and plea for society to reject pornography, there are
unanswered questions and overlooked aspects that leave their argument unconvincing. A guideline
of what defines abuse and violence needs to be established to properly examine pornography
material. The texts presented high percentages of violence existing in the pornography films that
were used to formulate data. However, there are no specifics regarding what violence is. Did the
standards include elements of dirty talk, kink, spanking, or BDSM? Fight the New Drug states that
"In other words, in porn, people are getting beaten up and they're smiling about it." There is a
significant difference in a woman being exposed to potentially arousing scenarios that affect our
sympathetic nervous system such as restraint

An Inside Look at Sadomasochism Essay
An Inside Look at S&M
Roy F. Baumeister explores the taboo lifestyles of sadomasochism. The main theme and purpose of
the piece is to find out who are masochists, and what do they put themselves through in the name of
pleasure. "Across the country, from sophisticated cities to subdued suburbs, men and women are
acting out fantasies of sexual domination and submission." (Psychology Today 47) I believe that
Baumeister describes a very accurate portrait of who one specific group of masochists is and what
they do for pleasure, however, I feel that he fails to recognize the younger generation of masochists.
I also feel that on the issue symbolic of sex change, Baumeister does not elaborate enough.
Baumeister's findings show that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Baumeister claims that these fantasies can range from wanting to be blindfolded during intercourse
to wanting to be bound and gagged or handcuffed.
Pain, being something that most humans would try to get away from at all costs is something that is
sought out and even craved by the masochist. The pain fantasy seems to be the one that has the
widest range of practices. According to Baumeister, some people enjoy "an old fashioned, bare
bottomed, over the knee spanking," (Psychology Today 47) where others would prefer having hot
candle wax dripped on them. Still others enjoy needles and being whipped.
The third masochistic practice that Baumeister addresses is humiliation. Some of the practices
include being forced to walk on all fours, and bark like a dog or being paraded around naked in front
of others who are wearing clothes. There is one memorable image that Baumeister depicts of
humiliation, in which a man for his wife's birthday party had her displayed naked on the hors
d'oeuvre table, "so that every party goer who reached for a cracker or the vegetable dip had to reach
across her bare self." (Psychology Today 47)
In this essay I believe that Baumeister did a very good job with informing the audience in a
descriptive way what exactly masochism is, but I do also feel that there is at least one point that he
did not address as well as a few that he could have elaborated on better.
One of the issues that he doesn't address is the fact that the

Reflection On Human Sexuality
This class was, potentially, the most enlightening out of any of our classes this semester. I tend to
think about myself as incredibly open–minded and well–rounded when it comes to understanding
the different aspects of human sexuality, but this class showed me how little I truly know. Listening
to this class's guest speakers illuminated me to the depth of the BDSM community that I had
previously been blind to. While I had known some about BDSM from simply a
fetish/paraphilia/technical standpoint, I wasn't aware that it also denoted such a rich community. I
suppose that I could have expected that BDSM would have it's own community, but, since it is
outside of my realm of sexuality, I was simplistic in the way that I understood BDSM as only a
fetish. My simplistic thinking is made worse when I consider the fact that one of my closest friends
was a professional submissive for a few years prior to coming to Reno, but I never asked many
questions because I felt that it would be too personal or would show potential holes in my
knowledge. This is why I am so glad that we had guest speakers for this topic in class. When I was
reading this chapter in the Lehmiller book, I found it to be informative on a baseline knowledge
level, but it definitely lost a lot of the depth and complexity of the fetishes and paraphilia
themselves, and particularly the people that practice these aspects of sexuality. Having a guest

Bdsm Psychopathology
Ivis Pereira

Professor Ivan Ruiz
July 7, 2015
The practice of BDSM is not a pathology, it is a pathway to pleasure.
The practice of bondage–discipline, dominance–submission, sadism–masochism (BDSM) is heavily
associated with psychopathology. However, BDSM may be thought of as a recreational leisure,
rather than the expression of psychopathological processes. The essential structures of the BDSM
experience are discussed in terms of authentic concept, association with psychopathology, and how
sex education might diffuse stigma and warn of the risks of this life style. Sexuality, in all its forms,
is incredibly variable –– so much so that we might do better to consider that incredible variability
the norm. Our genes, our environments, our experiences –– these things are what make us
individuals, with slightly different behaviors, emotions, desires and erotic fingerprints. "Like many,
many other sexual behaviors, BDSM is part of a normative sexual experience that feels healthy and
enjoyable to many people," says Herbenick. "This is something that is consensual and involves a
good deal of communication, which are both things that are important to any pleasurable
experience."
BDSM is a sexual practice characterized by suppression, physical restriction, practicing role playing
games, power exchange, and sometimes even the administration of pain. BDSM is an acronym for

wasn't. My maternal uncle was bipolar and hung himself at 23. My maternal aunt's agoraphobia kept
us as strangers until I was 12. Therapy was a staple of life; everyone had therapists, everyone but
me. I was the "easy" kid, the non–squeaky–wheel.
I married young (20 years old) and became a military wife. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Dyslexia
and severe pornography addiction dismantled my marriage in a short order. Therapy, family, clergy,
pride, and sheer will could not hold my ill–advised marriage together. In 2009 we separated and
divorced. I was 26 years old and unsure of whom I was or wanted to be. All I knew was that I had
failed at being a wife, failed in my career (making $14 per hour), and failed in school (my summer
off before starting college had turned into seven years). The only thing that I had succeeded in was
gaining 60 pounds in five years!

The Politics Of The United States Essay

  • 1. The Politics Of The United States Essay To the best of my knowledge, militarization can be interpreted as a state's search –through its citizens, military, and government– for more power. This is due to the thought that by having power, a state can protect itself from both external and internal enemies. By using a conservative lens, militarization has created the image that power is related to both whiteness –in a historical context as well as currently– and masculinity. The conservative nature of the military (and our nation as a whole) tends to lag behind the social ideals of the general population. This lag has created tensions between citizens and the military; while the citizen views of power has shifted liberally to incorporate sexuality, gender, race, ethnicity, and class, the military has continued to use a conservative lens in an attempt to normalize what defines power. With the creation of the United States, came the creation of the United States citizen. Defined by the Constitution, to become a citizen, one had to be white and own land. This original definition of citizenship has continuously pressured society to view citizenship as a trait to masculinity. The definition of citizenship through masculinity created the ideal that martial service was a duty of a male in order for him to become a citizen. As our nation has aged, the parameters of what defines a citizen has changed, allowing for the inclusion of both race and gender. Inclusion of citizenship as well as a push for human rights ... • 3. Sadomasochism Essay Sadomasochism Sadomasochism is a sexually deviant behavior that is practiced by many people within today's society. It is the combination of two paraphilias, sadism and masochism, which are usually always linked together. An occasional mild or light form of sadomasochism (or S& M for short), is considerably common among the general population. Many people often enjoy being mildly dominant or submissive during lovemaking. They believe that it makes the experience more enjoyable. But when S&M becomes the dominating feature of a person's sexuality, that is when he or she is considered deviant. Unlike other paraphilias, sadomasochism includes a large population of women as well as men. They are nearly equally balanced in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hypoxyphilia is a fairly common practice where a person chooses to enhance their sexual arousal by voluntarily depriving himself or herself of oxygen. In order to become deprived of oxygen, people usually use plastic bags, rope, or their partner's hands to choke their partner once consent is given. This practice is dangerous and can possibly even result in a tragic death (Rathus, Nevid, &Fichner– Rathus, p545–546). Masochism's counterpart, sadism, is the complete opposite for many reasons. Sadism is a parphilia, which is characterized by the association of sexual satisfaction with the infliction of pain or humiliation onto others. The term sadism refers to a French author and philosopher, Marquis de Sade (1740––1814). Marquis de Sade wrote stories of people who became sexually aroused by inflicting pain or humiliation on others. Some of his best known works are Justine (published in 1791) and Juliette (published in 1797). A sadist receives sexual gratification by role–playing. They usually play the authority figure who inflicts pain, humiliates, disciplines, and plays master to another person (Ernulf&Innala, p637). Most sadists hurt and humiliate willing partners who are usually masochists. A small minority of sadists may even attempt to stalk and attack their unwilling victims. This is a very dangerous and harmful to its participants. In fact, Sigmund Freud wrote extensively on sadism. In his research, he recognized its existence in the individual and ... • 5. Pro Mammatrix Research Paper As some of you may or may not know, I used to be a Pro Dominatrix. The list of fetishes or kinks I catered to in my past was a mile wide. Id like to touch on one in particular that I used to do called Sissyfication. In other words, I would take men. dress them up as women, make them imitate women and feminize them. For some, these actions I used to force upon them was an ultimate form of humiliation. To srip them of their naatural manhood, and to subject them to imitate a woman was so unnatural to them. Now I understand why many was so uncomfortable to this aspect of kink. It was due to the fact that I was forcing them to be molding into something God had not created them to be. Throught the years I discovered the many different facets of feminization. I had an uncanny ability to push men, their boundaries and their limits because I had sixth sense of the things they hide deep into their souls. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I recall that that stunt in particular caused an uproar with some folks...but I was apathetic to it. I was proud. I was boastful. I was sinful and I marveled in the notoriety that particular action gave me. Over time I met a plethora of men who would confess to me that they were crossdressers in secret, and they wore their wife's clothes, makeup and so forth when they weren't around. I cant tell you how many men I met out there who was into crossdressing. So when I see a man like Bruce Jenner who is now professing to be transgendered, I call baloney on ... • 7. Sadomasochism Essay Sadomasochism is defined as, "The giving or receiving of pleasure, often sexual, from the infliction or reception of pain or humiliation. It can feature as an enhancement to sexual pleasure, or, in some cases, as a substitute or sine qua non." (Burton, N) Pain can be used to encourage sexual arousal, while the simulation of sadism can be a form to express an emotional attachment. Sadomasochistic activities are, "Often initiated at the request of, and for the benefit of, the masochist, who often directs activities through subtle emotional cues." (Burton, N) I do not believe that sadism and masochism can truly be considered pathological as the morbidity of the acts are the root of sadomasochism. • 9. Cupping At The Rio Olympics 2016 Cupping has recently made headlines at the Rio Olympics 2016 when Michael Phelps, and several Olympians have been spotted rocking huge round purple bruises in their backs. Sadly, these bruises didn 't come from extreme BDSM play (though that would 've been a much better story to tell) but rather came from another ancient therapy known as cupping. Cupping is an ancient therapy mostly used in Middle Eastern and Asian countries. The therapy involves putting multiple warm round suction cups in your back targeting the sore parts of your body. This process is believed to stimulate muscles and blood flow. Back in the day, cupping therapy has been used to cure all kinds of ailments including shingles, facial paralysis, and even acne. A 2015 study (Lauche et al., 2015) examined whether cupping worked better than a sham–controlled treatment for patients suffering fibromyalgia, a chronic disorder known to cause widespread pain, muscle stiffness, and even depression. For this study, participants were put in one of three conditions (k=3): Cupping therapy, sham cupping therapy, or the usual care condition. Those in cupping therapy and sham cupping therapy condition received the treatment 2–5x a week. Conversely, those in sham cupping therapy was administered using cupping glass with a hole on top which negates the pressure created by the real cupping method. Subjects were blind in this study and not aware of any sham treatment. They were told they would receive either traditional or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Is BDSM Still Deviant Sexuality freedom is the new civil rights we are fighting for this decade. The practice of BDSM has become a hot topic in our society lately since the book Fifty Shades of Grey went public in 2011. BDSM is an acronym for bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, and sadism /masochism. The term BDSM is defined as a variety of erotic practices involving power play. Now because this term does not cover everyone in the kink community, known as an umbrella term, people are now starting to use the term WIIWD, which stands for "What it is we do". I will be using symbolic interaction theory to describe why BDSM is not deviant in our society today. Our society is always flowing and changing with the environment around us. We have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today, people are not frequently jailed or housed in mental hospitals For their private views. Unless their actual practices break local laws by violating anothers informed consent or causing harm to the point of death, sexual practices are mostly left to the realm of live–and–let–live. The US is still a recently religiously, and therefore sexually puritanical society, But the fact that our generations motto is "I can do whatever I want", plus the large community of BDSM lets me believe that the world of vanilla people are actually the deviant ones in our society today. Almost all human behavior has symbolic value to it, including sexual behavior. Biologically , we are driven to reproduce, but this does not dictate who, when, where, what and how by which we choose to do so; (Arany, 2013) social interaction is the driving force behind this. These characteristics are then determined by what we have learned through our culture. BDSM community might stem from mutual sexual fantasies but really its our first non–exclusionary group. When outside the bedroom most of these kinksers would blend in with the rest of society. emphasizes that although reality is constructed by our social interactions, our perceived reality, including those of a sexual nature are not the same for everyone. It is critical that a situation is defined by the establishment of relevant identities of those involved in the interaction. It is this construction that involves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Human Control In Gerald Barrax's To Waste At Trees "Industrial and urban development destroy, modify, or degrade natural habitat" (Ray 16). The theme of fragmentation, as described and qualified by author Janisse Ray, is a prevalent element in her text, Pinhook. Specifically, in this quote from the book, the theme of fragmentation and the divisions that result from the methods of human control over nature are apparent, like the work of the corporate sector of the economy. The formation of an economy, the production of goods and services, and a hierarchical system of employment are purely human creations and the ultimate representation of human influence and control. Indigenous people, the whistleblowers in this situation, exposing the pollution and destruction of the environment that they see around them, are very committed to and believe strongly in the protection of and the blessings of nature. They are an example of complicating evidence to the binary about dominance and submission: it is not all people who exact their dominance and their dangerous economic practices on nature, it is singularly the people who are using and abusing nature as a part of their economic growth and development. Ultimately, people who become protectors of the land, and who fight against the ways of the economically strong will be nature's answer to resisting human domination. Industry relies heavily on natural resources, and so when the humans of the world do not allow industry to exploit nature for their own gain, the binary between dominance and submission surrounding the actions of humans will be ... • 15. Gender Roles In Nora And Torvald The manipulative and twisted interaction between a man and a woman, what some considered a "marriage", digs and buries the dominant and controlling nature of the superior into the obedient and submissive nature of the weaker, the man and the woman. In the case of Nora and Torvald, the chaotic and disorderly nature of their marriage is stimulated by the feeling that Nora is viewed as nothing more than a "plaything" or "doll" for all the men in her life, whether it be her father or her "husband". With years of living like some toy for her husband's entertainment there is a spark of realization within Nora, that she is not some object that is solely for her husband's stimulation and transfixiation of perfection and subservience, but she is also a person, a human, and she has rights and she deserves to be respected as she is expected to respect her husband. With the realization of the wronging she has endured in part because of her commanding and persuasive husband and her controlling father, Nora flees from the responsibilities placed upon her by societal gender roles, and the roles deemed necessary for her to fulfill while her husband must work, this revelation and act of self justice is a deviation from what some deemed an inevitable tragedy for the family, in the aspect that this is not the tragedy they imagined. In Henrik Ibsen's play A Doll's House, the character Nora, often faced with the forced feminization of her doting father and dominant husband, reaches the point in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She did however want a full report of the night's events the following day. Lila had decided to go with something more casual since they weren't actually going out for dinner this time. She settled for a pair of jeans and soft green sweater. She twirled around a couple of times happy with the way things fit, put on her coat and headed out. As she rode up the elevator to his apartment, she was becoming nervous. She wiped her hands down the front of her jeans silently praying they weren't going to be sweaty all night. Once everything was arranged the way he wanted it, he removed the apron laying it on the counter top before taking his seat. Lila filled her plate. She never was one of those girls who believed in eating like a bird when out on a date. She never understood the mentality behind it. If you were hungry, you ate, simple. She doubted anyone was ever fooled by the three bite girls and claims of being full. Not only was it a waste of a good meal, but they would end up at home stuffing their faces afterwards because they were starving. How they figured they fooled anyone was beyond her. She put a piece of the duck in her mouth and closed her eyes. It positively exploded with flavor in her mouth. Keith sat back and watched. He was happily surprised at her reaction to the food as well as the amount she had on her plate for such a little thing. The look of bliss on her face made it all worthwhile. Although there have been several depictions of abuse in films and novels, these recognise domestic violence as a disgraceful sin; allowing us to suffer a somewhat less painful experience in the audience. Personally, I didn't mind the novel's plot, which despite the racy sex scenes, is based on the young university student Anastasia Steele falling in love with the young, rich, and alluring business man Christian Grey. On screen however, 50 Shades is not the sexy love story promised. Anastasia meets Christian after being forced to interview him for a newspaper article, and ignoring the fact that ... • 21. Paraphilia's Theory Of Sexual Deviance Sexual deviance is considered any sexual activity that is different than the normal, acceptable sexual activities of a society, but is vital for the person to experience arousal and orgasm (Sadock, 2007). The activities that are considered deviant can change over time and be different in different societies. These are also known as paraphilias. A paraphilia involves an extreme and continual sexual interest in children, objects, animals, materials, etc. or harming oneself or others during sexual activity. Although a person's biological makeup does have a part in some paraphilias, those who research the causes have yet to come to a conclusion on the exact reasoning behind them. It is thought that psychological factors are more the central reasoning behind these behaviors and that some event or events that occurred during childhood caused association of sexual pleasure with that event or object and a paraphilia evolved. • 23. Male Masochism in the Religious Lyrics of Donne and... Male Masochism in the Religious Lyrics of Donne and Crashaw The impetus of my psychoanalytic exploration of male masochism in Donne and Crashaw occurs in Richard Rambuss's "Pleasure and Devotion: The Body of Jesus and Seventeenth–Century Religious Lyric," in which he opens up possibilities for reading eroticism (especially homoeroticism) in early modern representations of Christ's body. In this analysis, Rambuss opposes Caroline Walker Bynum who, in response to Leo Steinberg's The Sexuality of Christ in Renaissance Art, claims that depictions of Christ's genitalia (the focus of Steinberg's work) can only be regarded as erotic from a modern standpoint, for such representations in historical context, before the advent of modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main objection to such an analysis arises from assumptions underlying the rigid dichotomy of spiritual/erotic––the insistence that that which is spiritual cannot be erotic, especially when joined to physical or mental pain. Bynum's rationale for denying the possibilities of erotic meanings in medieval and Renaissance texts lies not only in the distinction of the sexual/generative, but also in this binary of spiritual/erotic. As Rambuss notes, Bynum refuses to acknowledge the erotic in medieval and Renaissance religious texts because it appears to be deeply implicated in morbid accounts of tortured "flesh," a characteristic she finds "extremely unerotic" (178), thus implying that spirituality cannot be "sexual" (267). On the contrary, I would argue that the representation of spirituality in terms of physical and mental anguish does not preclude the erotic; indeed, it indicates its involvement in the erotic. Physical and mental torments lie at the heart of the erotic fantasies underlying Christian mysticism and, in varying degrees, the discourses of medieval and early modern Christianity, a belief system that revolves around the central sacrifice of Christ. As Julia Kristeva has commented, "a whole ascetic, martyrizing, and sacrificial Christian tradition has magnified the victimized aspect of that offering [Christ's death] by eroticizing both pain and suffering, physical as well as mental, as much as possible" (131). ... Gothic Conventions in The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter The Gothic is often distinguished by an atmosphere of terror, darkness, mystery, the unexplained and the transgression of boundaries. This essay will attempt to dissect how Angela Carter uses Gothic conventions in the passage taken out of her novel, 'The Bloody Chamber'. One of the most predominant conventions manipulated here is that of a dark and mysterious atmosphere. Throughout the passage the feeling of terror prevails. This is first started by the protagonist's taking of a "forbidden key". This stirs up a feeling of disquiet, as it implies a certain degree of prohibition and disapproval towards her task. She later enforces that her bravery is somewhat foolish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This gives the idea that urbanity cannot touch the place; technology is invalid there, and hence adding to the obscurity of the atmosphere. She then adds that the castle was "adrift" and it "floated…at (her) orders". This gives the story a fantastical twist. By adding an element of magic and the supernatural, Carter has sowed the seed of doubt in the mind of the reader as to the credibility of the story. It is a blurring of boundaries, where the surreal and reality cannot be made mutually exclusive. This idea of the supernatural is later picked up again in a painting, "Rape of the Sabines", where the focuses of the picture "suggested some grisly mythological subject". Here, the supernatural strikes terror as well, displaying itself in a horrific, but at the same time, erotic, manner. This act of sexual brutality plays a role in creating the tension of the atmosphere. Also, this is where inanimate objects are put in a sexual light – "rich breast of a woman", "naked sword", "naked stone". This could be because the writer is trying to suggest that in the castle, everything is stripped down to its bare elements – everything is in its primal state, just as sex is a primal desire, which will lead the protagonist to strip away the "garments" of her innocence; the heart of Man is corrupt. This alludes to the Freudian theory of the Superego, the Ego and the Id. The Id is the centre of Man, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

False Representation Of Bdsm According to the Merriam–Webster dictionary, representation is defined as a bias portrayal of someone or something that is being depicted in a certain nature, where as reality is the actuality of the world or the state of things as they exist. There is much harm in the conflicts that arise when something is being wrongly represented, not only for the people that are being represented but for the people looking into and out of the representation. This is where stereotypes are formed and is the core of the judgements among different races, cultures, genders, and groups of people. Sadism in the Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe The tell–tale Sadist: Sadism and Masochism in "The tell–tale heart" Many of Poe's tales portray characters which intently harm other creatures or people and enjoy the process of doing so. This tendency which Poe himself called "the spirit of perverseness"(Poe 10) in The Black Cat is described as the need to cause pain to other being without any reason, evil per se. However, from a psychological point of view, this spirit of perverseness would be labeled as sadism and its source may be traced by making a deep analysis of the character's psyche. It will be posed that the character participant narrator in the tell–tale heart does not kill the old man as an act of pure evilness or spirit of perverseness, but rather the source of his/her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This does not mean that sadism is a common feature of men's sexual behaviour, it is a sexual aberration but gender influences this tendency. Besides aggression, according to Lacan, is represented through certain images "for example castration, mutilation, devouring" (Glowinsky, 2001) and it should be born in mind that the narrator mutilates his victim in order to hide it, which provides extra evidence of the narrator's aggressiveness. In addition, a homosexual love for the old man would create a greater conflict in the mind of the narrator and a greater difficulty to fulfill his sexual desire in a normal way. "It can often be recognized that the masochism is nothing but a continuation of the sadism turning against one's own person in which the latter at first takes the place of the sexual object." ( Freud, 1914) Indeed, masochism seems to derive from the sadist drive. It is usually believed that victimizer becomes victim given certain circumstances and this may provoke pleasure as well. In the philosophy of composition, Poe unintentionally provides a good definition of masochism by talking about "the human thirst for self–torture." Indicating the eagerness of men to feel displeasure or even pain, this may be done in innocent ways (by suffering through fiction) or by remaining or looking for situation that might be painful. For decades practitioners of BDSM have been judged because of the way they choose to live their lives. When one hears or thinks of the acronym BDSM, there are stigmas that they think of as well. "By stigma, we mean that a person is recognized or labeled as having 'undesired differentness from what we had anticipated'" (Hoff). There's the question of where the boundary between abuse and recreational play is drawn, where the psychological implications of the relationship becomes too much for the individual, but all of that can be boiled down to just a few points to explore. As usual, there were multiple assignments. We had our normal issue from the Taking Sides text, though it was only one this week, a discussion on sexuality in later life, the quiz and this wonderful three page reflection paper. Additionally our annotated bibliography was due this week. As usual, I will start with this week's reading from the Taking Sides text. This week was slightly different in that we were given only one topic to read and discuss. The article discussed opposing views on whether or not sexting was considered safe sex. For my initial opinion on the topic, it seemed obvious to me that it was not a form of safe sex. In my mind people would have to be able to physically touch one another to actually have sex. There is no denying that domestic violence, rape, and assault occur in BDSM, but one should not generalize an entire community based on the acts of a few individuals. Even though authentic dominatrices do not participate in penetrative sex, more individuals are treating BDSM play as a form of prostitution because there has been a change of symbolic meaning concerning BDSM sex as a lifestyle to prostitution. This then creates an even more fragmented view of what a dominatrix lifestyle involves, in which further stigma will be associated with BDSM. Through symbolic interaction it can be understood that the general public perceives BDSM practitioners as deviant and mentally ill. BDSM practitioners are portrayed to have a lot of emotional baggage; therefore, to non practicing individuals, people who practice BDSM have major psychological issues. Due to this misinformation, the general public has created a negative image of the BDSM practitioners, and this image has lead the general public to fear BDSM. However, it is important to note that BDSM is not rooted from abuse or domestic violence, nor does participating in BDSM mean that one enjoys receiving abuse or abusing. According to Holt's (2015), when it came to the question concerning the stereotype that BDSM practitioners had been abused in the past, several did report history of abuse during childhood and young adulthood. However, Holt (2015) noted that several participants expressed mixed emotions when asked about one's history of abuse that ties with one's participation in BDSM. Otherwise we are still just at a distance from being in the presence of God and in His will. From my own desire to be closer to my Father, I have discovered the majority of things I participated in were sins. Not only were they sins, but they were abominations. I see my new life in Christ like a surprise gift. Overnight He removed the thirst and hunger I had for BDSM and replaced the empty well of my soul with a desire and fire for Him. I am no longer quenched searching desperately to be satisfied and fulfilled. God changed my "taste buds" of my soul, and the former things no longer taste good to me, or feel good to ... • 57. Film Review : Nineteen Shades Of Grey Film Review: Fifty Shades of Grey Directed by Sam Taylor, a 2015 American romantic and erotic film Fifty Shades of Grey gained a huge box office success earning over 571 million dollars worldwide (Mendelson). The film is written by British Author E. L James and among the star cast are included Dakota Johnson playing as Anastasia Steele and Jamie Dornan playing as Christian Grey (James). This essay analyzes the film and characters in terms of their relationship and different features of the story line. The story revolves around the sadomasochistic relationship between a young college graduate, Anastasia Steele and young and rich business magnate Christian Grey (James 2–20). The initial sparks of the steamy relationship begin in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Christian, the relationship was neither friendship nor love, but he was more interested in a BDSM (bondage, domination, sadism & masochism) sort relationship in which he wanted Ana to play as his submissive and he as a dominant for fulfilling his sexual desires (Reenen 223–233). The film has been criticized by many feminists as it depicted male as a dominant and controlling person in a relationship and female as a weak a clumsy personality. Christian wanted to control everything according to his own desires, and a giant agreement containing details about their sexual relationship was put forward for Ana. The agreement contained the safe limits and words and details regarding the sexual acts the two would take part in (Butt 62– 76). The movie follows Ana's decision that whether she would be able to sign the contract which is against her desires and expectations for love and sex or whether she would be able to move away from Christian as a consequence of not signing the lengthy contract. The characters in the movie have used simple language and short sentences, and this attracts a broader audience, and the movie provides a fast and romantic plot. The movie is for adult population and contains more or less four to five sex scenes and the patronizing storyline, and corny dialogues grab attention of audience, but the movie is also criticized by many (Steussy). At the end of the movie, Christian punished ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a vast difference between the two, and expectations and standards for behavior vary for play parties much more than at munches. Those wondering where to find BDSM events often find information specific to their area by doing an online search for local BDSM parties or consulting FetLife online to browse calendars. FetLife is also a great connection for BDSM singles ads and an online social connection for both veterans and BDSM beginners. Those who are well–versed in BDSM, but not at the play party level, must remember that some rules limit Dom/sub interaction in the areas of fire play, piercing and blood play. ## BDSM Play Party Etiquette Believing that all parties are enhanced by an *anything goes* attitude is completely false. Everything taking place is agreed upon, and safe words are utilized to ensure boundaries are not crossed. All parties adhere to a strict set of rules, and rules do differ, but there are a few commonalities among most: **No Drugs** Drug use is strictly prohibited under all circumstances, and if you find yourself at a party openly permitting the use of any recreational drug, you must ask yourself if this is a trustworthy environment. For consent to take place, all parties must be completely coherent. **No/Limited Alcohol** Select hosts allow moderate drinking, but drinking in excess is one of the surest ways to find oneself uninvited in the future. This goes back to consent and how a clear head is required to fully consent to any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. The Psycological Effects of Masochism and Sadism The Psychological Causes and Effects of Masochism and Sadism Katelyn Mueller Florida Institute of Technology Human Sexuality December 6, 2015 Abstract Masochism and sadism are very alike in nature. Masochism is a sexual perversion characterized by pleasure in being subjected to pain or humiliation; especially by a loved object. Sadism is the pleasure in being abused or dominated. Sadists have a taste for suffering. Masochism could be a means of escaping from one's self. It could be a temporally extended identity. The awareness of one's self is replaced by the focus on immediate present and on bodily sensations. Psychologists have found that the principle feature of masochism such as pain, bondage, and humiliation help accomplish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the past, masochists have been labeled as extremely disturbed, but recent studies show a surprisingly different picture. Empirical observers think that practicing masochists are normal, at least when it comes to their nonsexual activities. Whether sexual masochism is considered pathological depends on whether one accepts the sexual practices of masochists as symptoms. If someone does not judge the sexual patterns alone in these masochist behaviors, then the majority of the people who are considered masochists appear to be normal and healthy. It is said that participating in sadomasochistic relations is compatible with a normal, sane, and even a successful life. The prevailing theoretical position since Sigmund Freud has been that masochism is derived from sadism. In some clinical experiments, sadism is possibly the main attraction. It is also possible that the mentally ill are drawn to inflicting pain rather than receiving it. Most theorists have thought that there is a strong link between masochism and sadism and have accentuated sadism. It is apparently the more important and essential pattern. A lot of evidence contradicts these views. Masochism is far more common than sadism. The number of submissive people outnumbers the number of dominant people. The pattern in which one partner wants to dominate but the other partner is reluctant to submit is very rare. The only study that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Pornography Abuse And Violence Against Women There are obvious problems with society today regarding the presence of sexual violence and rape. The cause of these crimes is difficult to isolate, as it is also difficult material for researchers to complete studies on. We need a better definition of abuse, and it needs to be stated that the intelligence and mental instability can affect a man's actions. There can be a place in relationships for pornography as well, where women are consenting and desire to explore different material, not necessarily being dehumanized. While Fight the New Drug and Samantha Grey, the author of, "A Letter to Men: Porn is Not Just Women's Problem," both present claims that pornography consumption leads to violence against women, and plea for society to reject pornography, there are unanswered questions and overlooked aspects that leave their argument unconvincing. A guideline of what defines abuse and violence needs to be established to properly examine pornography material. The texts presented high percentages of violence existing in the pornography films that were used to formulate data. However, there are no specifics regarding what violence is. Did the standards include elements of dirty talk, kink, spanking, or BDSM? Fight the New Drug states that "In other words, in porn, people are getting beaten up and they're smiling about it." There is a significant difference in a woman being exposed to potentially arousing scenarios that affect our sympathetic nervous system such as restraint ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. An Inside Look at Sadomasochism Essay An Inside Look at S&M Roy F. Baumeister explores the taboo lifestyles of sadomasochism. The main theme and purpose of the piece is to find out who are masochists, and what do they put themselves through in the name of pleasure. "Across the country, from sophisticated cities to subdued suburbs, men and women are acting out fantasies of sexual domination and submission." (Psychology Today 47) I believe that Baumeister describes a very accurate portrait of who one specific group of masochists is and what they do for pleasure, however, I feel that he fails to recognize the younger generation of masochists. I also feel that on the issue symbolic of sex change, Baumeister does not elaborate enough. Baumeister's findings show that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Baumeister claims that these fantasies can range from wanting to be blindfolded during intercourse to wanting to be bound and gagged or handcuffed. Pain, being something that most humans would try to get away from at all costs is something that is sought out and even craved by the masochist. The pain fantasy seems to be the one that has the widest range of practices. According to Baumeister, some people enjoy "an old fashioned, bare bottomed, over the knee spanking," (Psychology Today 47) where others would prefer having hot candle wax dripped on them. Still others enjoy needles and being whipped. The third masochistic practice that Baumeister addresses is humiliation. Some of the practices include being forced to walk on all fours, and bark like a dog or being paraded around naked in front of others who are wearing clothes. There is one memorable image that Baumeister depicts of humiliation, in which a man for his wife's birthday party had her displayed naked on the hors d'oeuvre table, "so that every party goer who reached for a cracker or the vegetable dip had to reach across her bare self." (Psychology Today 47) In this essay I believe that Baumeister did a very good job with informing the audience in a descriptive way what exactly masochism is, but I do also feel that there is at least one point that he did not address as well as a few that he could have elaborated on better. One of the issues that he doesn't address is the fact that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Reflection On Human Sexuality This class was, potentially, the most enlightening out of any of our classes this semester. I tend to think about myself as incredibly open–minded and well–rounded when it comes to understanding the different aspects of human sexuality, but this class showed me how little I truly know. Listening to this class's guest speakers illuminated me to the depth of the BDSM community that I had previously been blind to. While I had known some about BDSM from simply a fetish/paraphilia/technical standpoint, I wasn't aware that it also denoted such a rich community. I suppose that I could have expected that BDSM would have it's own community, but, since it is outside of my realm of sexuality, I was simplistic in the way that I understood BDSM as only a fetish. My simplistic thinking is made worse when I consider the fact that one of my closest friends was a professional submissive for a few years prior to coming to Reno, but I never asked many questions because I felt that it would be too personal or would show potential holes in my knowledge. This is why I am so glad that we had guest speakers for this topic in class. When I was reading this chapter in the Lehmiller book, I found it to be informative on a baseline knowledge level, but it definitely lost a lot of the depth and complexity of the fetishes and paraphilia themselves, and particularly the people that practice these aspects of sexuality. Having a guest speaker come in allows for the other students, as well as myself, to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Bdsm Psychopathology Ivis Pereira ENC1102 Professor Ivan Ruiz July 7, 2015 The practice of BDSM is not a pathology, it is a pathway to pleasure. The practice of bondage–discipline, dominance–submission, sadism–masochism (BDSM) is heavily associated with psychopathology. However, BDSM may be thought of as a recreational leisure, rather than the expression of psychopathological processes. The essential structures of the BDSM experience are discussed in terms of authentic concept, association with psychopathology, and how sex education might diffuse stigma and warn of the risks of this life style. Sexuality, in all its forms, is incredibly variable –– so much so that we might do better to consider that incredible variability the norm. Our genes, our environments, our experiences –– these things are what make us individuals, with slightly different behaviors, emotions, desires and erotic fingerprints. "Like many, many other sexual behaviors, BDSM is part of a normative sexual experience that feels healthy and enjoyable to many people," says Herbenick. "This is something that is consensual and involves a good deal of communication, which are both things that are important to any pleasurable experience." BDSM is a sexual practice characterized by suppression, physical restriction, practicing role playing games, power exchange, and sometimes even the administration of pain. • 73. The Role Of Masochism In Fifty Shades Grey Sex is for pleasure and for fun. We all have our kinky fantasies that we may or may not seek out. Sadism and masochism can arguably be considered something that is just for fun and a way of pleasing themselves but it is not what normally pleases the majority of people. It is a form of sexual arousal by being punished or punishing another person in ways that cause pain, suffering, and humiliation. Sadomasochism is on the list of paraphilia's in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. I agree that Sadomasochism is pathological even if the sexual partner is willing. • 75. Childhood : The Non Squeaky Wheel Childhood: Growing up in a family that was ripe with mental illness lent me an unique perspective on the idea of social norms that allowed me the personal freedom to explore life to the very limits of my morality. I am born to a long and prestigious line of mental illness and diagnoses. By age 5 I knew good and well what it meant when my mother would say "we don't know where Grandma (bipolar) is and we don't know when she will come back, but Grandpa brought presents!" By age 9 I was aware that my only sibling was bipolar and it would run our house, that is, when my father's chronic depression wasn't. My maternal uncle was bipolar and hung himself at 23. My maternal aunt's agoraphobia kept us as strangers until I was 12. Therapy was a staple of life; everyone had therapists, everyone but me. I was the "easy" kid, the non–squeaky–wheel. I married young (20 years old) and became a military wife. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Dyslexia and severe pornography addiction dismantled my marriage in a short order. Therapy, family, clergy, pride, and sheer will could not hold my ill–advised marriage together. In 2009 we separated and divorced. I was 26 years old and unsure of whom I was or wanted to be. All I knew was that I had failed at being a wife, failed in my career (making $14 per hour), and failed in school (my summer off before starting college had turned into seven years). The only thing that I had succeeded in was gaining 60 pounds in five years! Several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
