1.0 INTRODUCTION
Theorizing Architecture is about to analyse and understand the theories of
architecture. In this project, the understanding of the theory is very important. This project is
all about to analyse the architecture and also the urban form which relevant to architecture
theories.
This essay is about to tell the introduction of the site which is Subang Square, the
neighbourhood context, le Corbusier biography and his theory of architecture about how to
design an urban. Besides that, the essay also include the three external factors which based on
the issue and also analysis which give a good impact in and outside the site. Then, the three
external factors are linked and related to the le Corbusier theories in term of designing an
urban. After analysing the three factors, the essay is about to discuss the relation between the
theories and the three external factors which follow by the conclusion.
2.0 CONTEXT: SS15 – Subang Jaya
Figure 1 . Maps of Subang jaya (Highlighted : SS15)
SS 15 is a small city that develop by Sime UEP which known as the Subdiary of Sime Darby
company. Sime UEP complete their job to construct and develop the SS15 in 1988. On the
other hand, Sime UEP did a great job to SS15 which now SS15 is known as the most vibrant
and also popular area in Subang jaya. The existing of SS15 also affecting the neighbourhood
context which are Sunway City and also the other district in subang jaya especially ss14, ss17
and also ss12. Besides that, SS15 is a well-designed city by Sime UEP because of the zoning
and the positioning of the building, it’s all giving a good impact to in and outside of SS15.
The zoning in SS15 area, ss15 is divided into 4 different zones which are educational area,
business area, religious area, and residential area. This 4 zones is actually design and link to
each other very well which the circulation of SS15 give an easy accessibility to the people
who want to visit that area. Not only from the outside of the city but also from the inside. All
the circulation or the road that SIME UEP designed, it creates and easy accessibility and also
Figure 2.1. Subang Square Business Park
Figure 2.2. Subang Square Tower
give people who visit ss15 more convenience to access to all the zones and also the area that
they developed.
The positioning of the building and also the positioning of the entertainment or the
compliment of a city like garden and also the sport complex all also very well designed by
the developer. For example, the position of Subang Square area or Subang Square business
park which located in the heart of the SS15 city , that act as the main area that control the
economy of SS15.
3.0 Case Study: Subang Square Tower & Subang Square Business Park
Inside Subang Square area, there are subang square tower (Figure 2.2) and also Subang
Square Business Park (Figure 2.1) which develop and built by Sunway Construction for
Muhibbah Permai which is known as Subsidiary of Sunway Construction. The tower and also
the business park is completed in May 1999. Besides that, subang square area is situated in a
vibrant commercial hub and it’s nearby areas are very popular and many well-known
companies for example it surround by Taylor’s college, Inti College , Sunway College,
Monash University and also Segi College. Subang Square area also easily accessible from all
the entrance of this area.

Figure 3. Photograph of Le Corbusier and His book
Le Corbusier (Figure 3) was born on October 1887, in Switzerland and he became a Swiss born
French architect. Besides that, the building on that era which mostly using steel, reinforced
concrete, geometry form and warm colour to emphasize the form and the structure has
become his trademark style. Besides designing a building, Le Corbusier also has written
some books and one of his book called “The city of To-morrow and it’s planning”, where the
book is talk about his perspective of view in how to design a success city and the planning of
a contemporary city. In his book, he also talk about his theory of the way he design a city.
The Theory which he highlighted the most is about “Total Centralization”, which in his cities,
the building that located in the center of the city must become the building that has the
highest function if compare with other building on that area. He also mentioned about the
building must be a skyscrapers building and it act as the brain of the city. Besides that he
believed that his idea of centralization can give strong command or also give a good impact
to surrounding. Then he also said the building must act as the landmark of the city itself or
image of the city.(LeCorbusier.2015) The other theory is about the different programmes and
amenities have to be locate in different zone and location. For example business area,
residential area, shopping mall, monuments and government building must be located in
different zone. all of the theories that Le Corbusier said is all can be relate or suit with the
condition of Subang Square area in term of the spatial planning such as the positioning of the
building and how the developer of subang square area plan the position of the building. On
the other hand, Subang Square became a center of business in SS15 and it help to growth the
economics of SS15 which related to the Le Corbusier theories as the highest function
building in that area. Then, the accessibility which come out from
5.0 THE THREE EXTERNAL FACTORS WHICH GIVE IMPACT TO THE SITE
5.1 Economics
Subang Square business park and Subang square tower is well-known by the peoples
around subang jaya as a business area which until now still helping to growth the economics
of the subang jaya and also to raise up the percentage of prosperity of peoples who lived
inside the area and also outside the area which means the neighbourhood context of Subang
Square tower and Subang square business park. Based on analysis, Since subang square
tower and subang square business park which established or finish developing in 1999, It’s
shows that the economics on that area are growth significantly from the previous which
before the subang square and also the subang square business park were there. For example,
the neighbourhood context of subang square tower and also subang square business park are
mostly surround by restaurant and also food stalls, then the people who worked and visit
subang square tower and also subang square business park, they needs food and mostly they
will find a restaurant or place for them to dine in , which automatically it raise up and also
increase the percentage of income for the people who open the restaurant around the
neighbourhood context of subang square area.
Figure 5.1.1. the diagrams of repond and relation between the site and neighbourhood context
5.2 Accessibility
Location of Subang Square Tower and subang square business park are located in a very
strategic area in SS15, which located in the center of SS15. On the other hand, the position of
the building is give an advantages for the tenant or doing business on that area and also give
advantages to the neighbourhood context. Besides that, the location of the building also can
become a landmark for people to mention and because of the easy for eye visible it gives
advantages to the building. On the other hand, the location of the Subang square tower and
also subang square business park is near all the entrance of SS15 which can make subang
square area as the first destination for people who visit ss15. Then, the color and also the size
of the building also make the building on that area more visible. Easy accessibility and also
easy to find, it makes the building that choose by lot of big company and also factory office
rent a space make it as their office. Some of the popular college and also company which
located near the subang square tower and also subang square business park, it also take an
advantages from the subang square tower area and subang square business park. For example,
Taylor’s canadian pre-university building that located next to subang square tower, which
mostly the people who want to visit taylor’s Canadian pre-university building always use
subang square tower as place for them to mention. From this example, the existing of subang
square tower and also subang square business park help and give convenience for the people
to go to certain place in the neighbourhood context of Subang square area.
Figure 5.2.1 The diagrams show that the circulation and all the enterance of subang square is all lead to subang
square area and make subang square area as the first destination for the users who visit SS15
5.3 Spatial planning in term of activities
Spatial planning is one of the most important thing in designing a city which can be clearly
said that the location of the building, the zoning and also how the building activities support
to each other. From the Theory of Le Corbusier which is “Zoning” theory which the different
activities must be located in separate zones is well shown in this site. Subang square tower
and also subang square business park are both known as business complex in SS15 where
Subang square tower and also subang square business park building were built by developer
next to each other because of the activities. Then, because of the different activities of
Subang Square area and the neighbourhood context which has been planned by the developer,
it makes the user convenient to do their activities at the site and outside the site or
neighbourhood context. For example, subang square tower and also subang square business
park are mostly office and also people doing business, right in front of subang square tower
and subang square business park is Pangsapuri housing complex where usually a place for all
the workers and student rent their room or house because of the convenient for the workers
and student get to work and go to college. Then, at the back road of the site is mostly
restaurant and café, which usually all the workers and the student from Taylor’s Canadian
pre- university will have their lunch and also dinner there. From the example, a well-designed
zone is a zone that give convenient to the users to do their activities.
Figure 5.3.1. The diagram shows that the spatial planning that the developer do is to raise up and give convenient
to the users in term of doing their activity
6.0 DISCUSSION
In this discussion, it talks about the relation of the theory and the three external factors, which
based on Le Corbusier Theory it suit very well to Subang Square area which also an
interesting site or area to learn, study and analyse. After analysing the site, not all of Le
Corbusier theory can be apply into the site but overall some of the theory suit very well to the
site.
First, Economy of SS15 is growth significantly after the existing of Subang square
tower and subang square business park in SS15. From one of Le Corbusier theory which
talked about the building must be act as the highest function in that area. Subang Square is
example of the successful area or building that act as the highest function in term of business
and locate in the center of SS15. In the future there will be more possibility for subang square
area to growth the economy of SS15 because of the development of SS15 is very fast, one of
the example is businessman always compete on getting space for them to rent in this area to
open their new café and new restaurant, this action can be seen from the opening of the new
café and new restaurant in the neighbourhood context.
Next is about the accessibility. Accessibility to subang square area is very
convenience which all of the SS15 entrance is located near the subang square area which
make subang square as the first destination for the people who visit SS15. According to Le
Corbusier theory, about the “Total Centralization”, circulation and also zoning all can be seen
clearly where all the circulation of ss15 is all lead to subang square area. From the analysis, it
shown that in the future this area will be grow more significantly due to the development in
Subang jaya and the neighbourhood context which is Sunway city.from the issue that already
come out where the sunway group will take over subang jaya in year 2020 to develop subang
jaya to become more lively and more convenient to the users.
Then, spatial planning of Subang square area is very well done. The subang square
building located next to each other to support the business in the site and also the
neighbourhood context. From the analysis, theory of Le Corbusier which is “Zoning Theory”,
in term of that the activities that exist in the site and the neighbourhood context is now
depending on each other and also give convenient to the user to do their activities. So from
the potential spatial planning, it will lead to a better city to give more convenient to the user
to do their activities and next it will make subang square area and also the neighbourhood
context as the city that most visit by the people from outside the context.
7.0 CONCLUSION
In Conclusion, this project give chance to learn about the theory of designing a city or urban
with the theory that already exist which have already applied by some theorist. The theorist
which is very popular with the style of designing building and city who is Le Corbusier. the
theory is all about to make a better city to live in. on the other hand , the three external factors
that give impact to the site, such as economics, accessibility and spatial planning of the
building in Subang square area in term of different activities through the theories of le
Corbusier there also Human culture and also circulation can be add into the factors. Last, this
essay tough me the way to understand the context more and how to applied the theory into
the site. there are still lot of way to designing a better city in the future.

On the other hand, Subang Square became a center of business in SS15 and it help to growth the economics of SS15 which related to the Le Corbusier theories as the highest function building in that area. Then, the accessibility which come out from
  • 5. 5.0 THE THREE EXTERNAL FACTORS WHICH GIVE IMPACT TO THE SITE 5.1 Economics Subang Square business park and Subang square tower is well-known by the peoples around subang jaya as a business area which until now still helping to growth the economics of the subang jaya and also to raise up the percentage of prosperity of peoples who lived inside the area and also outside the area which means the neighbourhood context of Subang Square tower and Subang square business park. Based on analysis, Since subang square tower and subang square business park which established or finish developing in 1999, It’s shows that the economics on that area are growth significantly from the previous which before the subang square and also the subang square business park were there. For example, the neighbourhood context of subang square tower and also subang square business park are mostly surround by restaurant and also food stalls, then the people who worked and visit subang square tower and also subang square business park, they needs food and mostly they will find a restaurant or place for them to dine in , which automatically it raise up and also increase the percentage of income for the people who open the restaurant around the neighbourhood context of subang square area. Figure 5.1.1. the diagrams of repond and relation between the site and neighbourhood context 5.2 Accessibility Location of Subang Square Tower and subang square business park are located in a very strategic area in SS15, which located in the center of SS15. On the other hand, the position of the building is give an advantages for the tenant or doing business on that area and also give advantages to the neighbourhood context. Besides that, the location of the building also can become a landmark for people to mention and because of the easy for eye visible it gives advantages to the building. On the other hand, the location of the Subang square tower and also subang square business park is near all the entrance of SS15 which can make subang square area as the first destination for people who visit ss15. Then, the color and also the size of the building also make the building on that area more visible. Easy accessibility and also easy to find, it makes the building that choose by lot of big company and also factory office rent a space make it as their office. Some of the popular college and also company which located near the subang square tower and also subang square business park, it also take an advantages from the subang square tower area and subang square business park. For example, Taylor’s canadian pre-university building that located next to subang square tower, which
  • 6. mostly the people who want to visit taylor’s Canadian pre-university building always use subang square tower as place for them to mention. From this example, the existing of subang square tower and also subang square business park help and give convenience for the people to go to certain place in the neighbourhood context of Subang square area. Figure 5.2.1 The diagrams show that the circulation and all the enterance of subang square is all lead to subang square area and make subang square area as the first destination for the users who visit SS15 5.3 Spatial planning in term of activities Spatial planning is one of the most important thing in designing a city which can be clearly said that the location of the building, the zoning and also how the building activities support to each other. From the Theory of Le Corbusier which is “Zoning” theory which the different activities must be located in separate zones is well shown in this site. Subang square tower and also subang square business park are both known as business complex in SS15 where Subang square tower and also subang square business park building were built by developer next to each other because of the activities. Then, because of the different activities of Subang Square area and the neighbourhood context which has been planned by the developer, it makes the user convenient to do their activities at the site and outside the site or neighbourhood context. For example, subang square tower and also subang square business park are mostly office and also people doing business, right in front of subang square tower and subang square business park is Pangsapuri housing complex where usually a place for all the workers and student rent their room or house because of the convenient for the workers and student get to work and go to college. Then, at the back road of the site is mostly restaurant and café, which usually all the workers and the student from Taylor’s Canadian pre- university will have their lunch and also dinner there. From the example, a well-designed zone is a zone that give convenient to the users to do their activities.
  • 7. Figure 5.3.1. The diagram shows that the spatial planning that the developer do is to raise up and give convenient to the users in term of doing their activity 6.0 DISCUSSION In this discussion, it talks about the relation of the theory and the three external factors, which based on Le Corbusier Theory it suit very well to Subang Square area which also an interesting site or area to learn, study and analyse. After analysing the site, not all of Le Corbusier theory can be apply into the site but overall some of the theory suit very well to the site. First, Economy of SS15 is growth significantly after the existing of Subang square tower and subang square business park in SS15. From one of Le Corbusier theory which talked about the building must be act as the highest function in that area. Subang Square is example of the successful area or building that act as the highest function in term of business and locate in the center of SS15. In the future there will be more possibility for subang square area to growth the economy of SS15 because of the development of SS15 is very fast, one of the example is businessman always compete on getting space for them to rent in this area to open their new café and new restaurant, this action can be seen from the opening of the new café and new restaurant in the neighbourhood context. Next is about the accessibility. Accessibility to subang square area is very convenience which all of the SS15 entrance is located near the subang square area which make subang square as the first destination for the people who visit SS15. According to Le Corbusier theory, about the “Total Centralization”, circulation and also zoning all can be seen clearly where all the circulation of ss15 is all lead to subang square area. From the analysis, it shown that in the future this area will be grow more significantly due to the development in Subang jaya and the neighbourhood context which is Sunway city.from the issue that already come out where the sunway group will take over subang jaya in year 2020 to develop subang jaya to become more lively and more convenient to the users.
  • 8. Then, spatial planning of Subang square area is very well done. The subang square building located next to each other to support the business in the site and also the neighbourhood context. From the analysis, theory of Le Corbusier which is “Zoning Theory”, in term of that the activities that exist in the site and the neighbourhood context is now depending on each other and also give convenient to the user to do their activities. So from the potential spatial planning, it will lead to a better city to give more convenient to the user to do their activities and next it will make subang square area and also the neighbourhood context as the city that most visit by the people from outside the context. 7.0 CONCLUSION In Conclusion, this project give chance to learn about the theory of designing a city or urban with the theory that already exist which have already applied by some theorist. The theorist which is very popular with the style of designing building and city who is Le Corbusier. the theory is all about to make a better city to live in. on the other hand , the three external factors that give impact to the site, such as economics, accessibility and spatial planning of the building in Subang square area in term of different activities through the theories of le Corbusier there also Human culture and also circulation can be add into the factors. Last, this essay tough me the way to understand the context more and how to applied the theory into the site. there are still lot of way to designing a better city in the future.
