laws that criminalized homosexuality and some that had laws that could warrant the death penalty

1960s Gay Rights
Imagine this, you are just walking down the street holding hands with your significant other and all
of a sudden a police car shows up and and an officer jumps out. The officer starts beating and
abusing you because you are in love with someone of your same gender.
In the 60s being LGBT was not excepted by society, which includes the police. Many people were
harassed and abused by police. The people who were suposed to keep them safe were harming them
for being themselves.
The gay rights movement in the 60s helped lay a foundation for future generations to fight for
equality.

May 22nd, 1930 in Woodmere, New York a legend was born. This legend is also famously known as
Harvey Milk, a man who would soon turn into one of the greatest LGBT activists in history. Harvey
Milk, when he was a teenager in high school, knew he was gay but kept it to himself all the way
through the Korean War. In the Korean War, Milk was discharged in 1955 and moved back to New
York City where he took on many jobs, from being a teacher to being a Wall, Street investment
banker. Milk is mostly well known for being one of the first openly gay political advisors. He helped

The gay rights movement started to advocate homosexual men and women's rights and give them
equality as well. This movement has been going on for such a long time till this current year it's
become a big topic to society. In the late 1800's to the mid 1900's gay rights became a political
debate. For many years people always were different and had different views in life. However
people were always afraid to be truthful about their rights as a person. In 1807 a man named oscar
created a poem called "Two loves". The poem became viral and popular but this changed

In March of 2009, at the Hotel Triangle in Kampala, Uganda, Scott Lively, an American attorney
and activist and the president of Abiding Truth Ministries, a conservative Christian organization,
delivered a speech that was to have a drastic effect on the human rights of gays and lesbians in
Uganda. The speech, given at an anti–gay conference titled "Exposing the Truth behind
Homosexuality and the Homosexual Agenda", linked homosexuality with child molestation and the
destruction of African families and laid the foundation for what was to become a virulently

salvation. The gay rights movement is an integral part of the American promise of freedom"
(Urvashi Vaid). Many people were not supportive of the minority of people coming out to the world
and becoming a part of the LGBTQ+ community. The actions of the many who did not accept the
idea of being gay, lesbian or transgender, would interfere with their confidence and freedom of
being who they want to be. The idea of gay rights was not socially accepted since it had differed
from the social norm of a male and female sexually attracted to one another. However, there would
be a 'safe haven' in most cities for the LGBTQ+ community to thrive and reveal themselves towards
the people that truly accepted them for who they are. Although there were very few 'safe havens'
around, these places would be tormented by the police and many of the people in them would
become oppressed since they wanted to be in a place of acceptance. From June 28, 1969 through

Jason Peter Ferrer and I am proud to be a homosexual! Queer youth around the world is still
struggling to be open about themselves. Just because same–sex marriage is starting to become

I have helped a few people to come out into the public of who they are show them their strength. I
have even created a Youtube channel inspiring others to be confident in themselves. I recently
uploaded my story along with some tips. My story may not have been the happiest one out there
however it's also not the worse. In that video I stated that each and everyone's experience is going to
be different. Since media has such enormous amount of impact it affect queer youth around the
globe. Queer youth today maybe better now than it was ten years ago but there is still work that

America we are all free, but not exactly because some are born into a harder life of less freedom.
While some people say that others can't be born gay, it is not that way because of hatred, wants, and

Gay Rights has always been a controversial topic. People have fought and argued over this simple
human right for years and now we are finally seeing progress. The Gay Rights Movement started on
1924 by Henry Gerber, founder of The Society for Human Rights, the first documented Gay Rights

The struggle between Edward and Bella in the "Twilight Saga" can be closely related to the struggle

close–minded people are. Just because one is different, or loves differently than another person, does
not mean that they have a mental illness. If it did, we would be claiming that a lot of people have

That is the saddest thing to me because I would hate, absolutely hate it if someone called me dirty

By incorrectly addressing them, queer fans became the subject of even more hate. Now more than
ever, they feel as though the band that they love and rely on quite arguably hates them. The strides
that this fandom has made were severely damaged and the floodgates reopened. Demoting the
presence of rainbows to the result of a particular ship is both hurtful and outrageous. This was never

In Plato's Republic, several competing explanations of justice are offered. First, we hear
Thrasymachus's account of justice in Book I, as being the advantage of the stronger. We then receive
Glaucon's explanation of justice in Book II: the agreement between men to act just in order to avoid
the pain of being on the receiving end of an unjust act. Finally, Socrates provides us with the best
definition of justice, saying that justice is the result of three specific classes performing their
function within a city in order for the collaboration to conclude in self–sufficiency. Socrates's
definition of justice outshines those of Thrasymachus and Glaucon because he takes into account
that not every person is the same, but everyone is equal. Socrates's refutations of both Thrasymachus
and Glaucon help completely shape his argument of what justice is when it comes to Book 4.
Socrates made his definition of justice general enough to where it accounted for everyone in the city.

Herald (2018), outlines a national journey but also personal journey of the author. Waters highlights

Willett argues that the world view has changed, with the help of so many activists, bringing about
fundamental changes in society's attitudes. Willett talks about the changes made up until 1997,
however since then attitudes and legislation relating to homosexual people has become even more
understanding and tolerant. In the early 20th century, gay and lesbian people were marginalised to
the point of invisibility and demonization . He argues that before 1975, homosexual laws were some
of the harshest laws that the government introduced. This was because there was a general sense of

also uses evidence of people trying to change this law and fight for gay rights, such as Whitlam in
1970, who expressed support for decriminalisation of homosexual acts, and how in 1972, Lex
Watson set out law reform abolishing all laws regarding discrimination against gay couples and
sexual orientation, race and marriage status. He demanded public education campaign in schools to
eradicate anti–gay attitudes. Willett suggests these actions helped to reshape Australian society
