Chocolate Art Research Paper
Chocolate art!! Yep this week we are combining two of my favorite things chocolate and art. Before
I explain the process to this I have to admit working with chocolate is not easy. I used chocolate
chips if you recreate this you may want to use any melts that you can find at the craft store. Candy
melts are a lot less temperamental than chocolate and you will have a better finished product than I
did. I was trolling through Pinterest and I found this I how much fun it would be to recreate this
cake in honor of my family on valentines day. You could also use this same method to recreate some
pictures that your children have drawn and use it on a special cake for them. I teach cake decorating
for Wilton and we use this method with royal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cake is easier and cleaner to work with chilled and the chocolate has to have an hour or two to
set. The finished cake had the heads of all my family on it as well as my cat and the outline of our
house. Everyone had a blast getting a piece that had their head attached. This is a fun way to bring
kids into he kitchen and to create a one of a kind cake that will be special to the whole family. Don't
worry about how the finished product looks, even if everything breaks and you sprinkle the
chocolate over the top it was still fun had by the whole family and it is still yummy cake so it is a
win win :) Get your kids in the kitchen have fun and make messes but most importantly make

Pros And Cons Of Valentine's Day
February February...there's a lot of things I think about in this month. The first thing I think about is
Valentine's Day, with all the love in the air. Most importantly, the second thing I think about is Black
History. In everybody's mind this is the shortest month of the year, it's about love, and the
appreciation of African Americans. What is Valentine's Day? Valentine's Day is going out your way
to do something for a loved one. But why should people have to really show their love for someone
in a certain month, on a certain day? Love should always be expressed everyday. Valentine's Day
was created by a man named St. Valentine. There are many stories on how this became such a big
holiday, but one story says that he was imprisoned and he wrote the "first Valentine" to the love of
his life because he was going to die, ending the letter with "From your Valentine." Later in life, it
became more about love because people during the middle ages began to realize that during the
middle of February is which the 14th, the birds' mating season had beginned which resulted in love.
But, I feel that Valentine's Day has its pros and cons. It is about being loved by someone and being
able to express how you feel towards a loved one. This day is usually men going out their way to do
something special for their significant other. Sometimes it is the women doing something special,
but the men are usually the ones to do something special first. Some people have a really good

Personal Narrative: Temporary Invisibility
"She had the oddest sense of being herself invisible; unseen; unknown..." (Virginia Woolf). The
feeling of invisibility comes in many forms, and is experienced by a majority of people at a point in
their lives. The feeling of invisibility can be temporary, as it was for me in second grade, or sadly
continue throughout a person's lifetime. Temporary invisibility can be seen as a realization and lead
to positive outcomes and a change of perspective about life. The first time I experienced invisibility
was at the young age of seven when I declared my love to my, back then, second grade crush Juan
Flores.
In second grade I had the biggest crush on my classmate, Juan. I remember blushing every time he
would talk to me, share a smile with me, or merely look at me. I had been feeling the connection I
had with Juan ever since I could remember, but as second grader, I learned that the feelings I had for
him were known as a "crush".
Only my best friend, at the time, Nicole Zuniga, knew about the way I felt about Juan. She would
always urge me to tell him and she would never dissuade me like the good friend she was. She
would never fail to drop random hints about my feelings to Juan. I didn't want to tell him because I
was afraid he would reject me and shame me in front of my other classmates. It seemed
overwrought to tell Juan how I felt, but with a confident ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My thoughts of ending my Valentine's Day in a jovial way were ephemeral. I sat in the stall until I
managed to gather myself and walked outside. I was beginning to feel better when from the corner
of my eye I saw a familiar pocket mirror in the trashcan. Immediately, I began to cry again, my
sadness was soaking my skin to the bone. I tried my best to remain placid, but the pain I felt in my
chest was unbearable. My eyes were like a waterfall that would never dry up. His act made me feel
rejected and unloved. The wistful thoughts I had cried out were back once

Why Do The Same With Your Business?
Identify your type
Just as in real life it's important know who is right for you. You wouldn 't commit to a relationship
with someone you didn 't fancy would you. So why do the same with your business? Seek only
qualified sales leads and customers and reach out to those who are likely to convert to a solid sale a
rather than wasting your time with those customers that are teasing you, playing hard to get or just
plain using you. Learn to be picky, Don't be afraid to only go after the business that tickles your
fancy.
Put yourself out there
If lonely, you know that sitting indoors watching crappy television and eating icecream is no way to
find a new partner (unless the pizza delivery boy takes your fancy). The same applies to your
business. If the notches on your office desk are looking a little thin and your client list isn 't at its
best then you need to get out there a promote your business, the same way you would sign up to
dating websites, go out to a few bars or ask your friend to set you up on a date. No one knows you
exist unless you get your brand out there. Spread the word about your business through Search
Engines, Content Marketing, Social Media, Networking Events and the likes.
Have something of value to attract your customers
The initial interactions between you and your new client encounter determine how the relationship
unfolds. Consumers can fall in love with brands just as the can fall in love with people. Make sure
that what you have to say early on is of

Attitudes Towards Love in Pre-1900 and 1990's Poetry Essay
Attitudes Towards Love in Pre–1900 and 1990's Poetry
"The Despairing Lover" written by William Walsh was written pre 1900 whilst the second poem "I
Wouldn't Thank you for a Valentine" by Liz
Lockhead was written in the 1990's. These poems are almost a century apart. Attitude towards love
changes over time and these poems represent this. I Wouldn't Thank you for a Valentine is about
how people think about Valentine's Day in the 1990's, while The Despairing
Lover is showing what people think and how important they see love in the 1990's.
In "The Despairing Lover" William Walsh sets out the poem like a story with a beginning a middle
and an end. This narrative structure of the poem gives the poem three clear stages this making ...

This enables me to come to the conclusion that the poet isn't a strong enough to cope with this
matter by himself. This also shows the poets frame of mind. It suggest the poet see it as love or
nothing and that he was obsessed with this girl. It gives an insight into his relationship with this girl
that it was only a one way thing, he really loved her but she didn't really love him and that's why he
is really upset. In the despairing lover, the idea we get of the setting is the Cliffside where he wants
to commit suicide. He chooses somewhere like a cliff to kill himself as it is a lot more dramatic to
jump of a cliff. This could also show us that the poet is maybe doing this for attention and that he
was never really going to kill himself but was just trying to make a scene this is another insight into
how the poet is thinking.
The setting also shows the time when the poem was written, as at that time it would be very typical
way to commit suicide by jumping of a cliff or a building. While in today's society, a typical way to
commit suicide would probably be to take an overdose of tablet or slit your wrists. In addition, the
idea of the poet committing suicide because of love tells us a lot about the poet. You would expect
that if anyone was going to kill themselves it would the woman out of the relationship, as they are
more in touch with there emotions. It is very much

Teen Dating: Valentine's Day And Jeffery
It was Valentine's Day and Jeffery was trying to find the perfect gift for his girlfriend, Katie. When
he showed his parents the teddy bear he bought, his parents were upset. Jeffery was disappointed,
but determined to give the gift to his girlfriend. In the argument about teen dating, several articles
point out positive and negative details; however, after looking at the evidence, teens should not be
permitted to date. This is shown when the Jeffery give the the bear to Katie the look on her face

pressure and the higher risks associated with it. To begin with in the atical "Teen Dating: Doomed to

A Observation Of My Observation
Lightbox:
At the beginning of my observation, the lightbox was a center that always had a child in it. The
children do spend a significant amount of time (about 10 minutes or more) in this center, building
things that are color see through. However, whoever was in this center spends a large amount of
time in it, since it's a small space as well it 's limited to two children at a time. It gets less attention
than the other centers in the room. Later on in the end, of my observation period, it got less
attention. I believe it was a result of newer things that were introduced in the classroom that took the
attention away from this center. Another issue, it's located in an area that 's almost hidden away in
the back of the room in a corner. The children would have to get through the other centers or areas
on the way to the Lightbox. It could be possible the children's interest changes on the way there
seeing another child playing in another center that looks more appealing. I would recommend
changing the material in this center weekly or bring in new materials to freshen up the center and to
renew interests from the children.
Sensory:
This area always has at least one child at it at all times. The children really enjoyed feeling things
with their hands. The times that the sensory area was less populated depended on the materials that
were used in the sensory tub. When it was things like small toy balls, baking pans, and tongs it was
a dry and clean activity. When it's an

Enslaving Nature of Love Exposed in Lucretius Essay
Enslaving Nature of Love Exposed in Lucretius
In Dryden's Lucretius, the speaker argues that (1) Love is a sickness, (2) Love's sickness enslaves,
and (3) all attempts to remedy Love's sickness are vain and will only frustrate the lover. Just as
Milton's Adam and Eve become enslaved to sin by disobeying God, so mankind becomes enslaved
to Love when pierced with Cupid's "winged arrow". In Milton, there is redemption and freedom
through Christ, but in Dryden, no salvation from love is possible. This poem leaves mankind in a
hopeless, frustrated state, unable to break free from love's yoke. This essay will center on the last
heroic couplet: "All wayes they try, successeless all they prove,/To cure the secret sore ... Show

The poem argues that love is not only a sickness, but also as a form of enslavement.
The couplet argues that "All the wayes they try, successeless all they prove" implies that these lovers
are trapped, and cannot satisfy love's demands. This enslavement idea is further proved upon
examining the method by which a person falls in love: "From whence he first was struck, he thither
tends; Restless he roams, impatient to be freed". The lover is described as "impatient to be freed"
which implies that he is not free, but instead a victim, "struck" by a "Fiery dart", and now is cursed
with an "endless appetite" for love. The lover is a slave seeking satisfaction, but never finding it:
"Hence thirst and hunger may be satisfi'd,/But this repletion is to Love deny'd". Once a person is
struck with Cupid's arrow, enslavement begins and "Love with fantomes cheats our longing
eyes,/Which hourly seeing never satisfies". Love's enslavement not only makes all attempts to break
free fruitless, but also makes the frustrates the lover.
In the enslaved state, the lovers tries to satisfy love's demands, "eager to inject the sprightly seed"
but "All the wayes they try", the lovers fail. Even though this poem is all about how love enslaves,
the speaker ironically offers remedies. The speaker argues

The St. Valentine's Day Massacre
Valentine's Day, a day of expressing your love to others by chocolates and roses or a day to express
your hate to someone by planning a massacre to scare your rival? On February 14 1929, gangs rivals
Al Capone and Bugs Moran ended theirs with blood. It happened when Al Capone men went into
Bugs Moran headquarters where they entered dressed in police officers uniforms and demanded for
the place to be raid where as Bugs Moran's men were then lined up in a white wall where the police
officers would see their lifeless bodies full of bullets in the morning (This Day in History: The St.
Valentine's Day Massacre). This will be cause of a rivalry against the two gangs. The Valentine's

The Saint Valentine's Massacre was a well thought out plan since no one was able to have solid
proof that it was Al Capone. In Saint Valentine's article in This Day in History it states the plan was
carried out fairly easy since both were familiar with transporting alcohol and such Bugs Moran was
expecting whiskey in his main headquarters but he was running late. When he noticed police
officers walking into the headquarters and waited outside thinking his men were being arrested in a
raid by police officers but the real reality of it once they leave will be the turning point of mobs.
What happen inside Bugs Moran's headquarters was undoubtedly one of the most painful massacres
of mobs. Moran's men also believing it was a raid did as they were told by what they thought what
the police would be lined up against a wall and then be shot to death. The seven men were shot at
least fifteen times and and it was revealed as their bodies were examined that they were even shot
when they were on floor according to Capone: The Man and the Era By Laurence Bergreen page

seven men faces beyond recognition as stated by Brent Ashcroft in St. Valentine's Day Massacre:
Tale of two guns. This massacre shows the brutal killings of gangs during 1920's and how gruesome
and headstrong gangs leaders like Al Capone and Bugs Moran were to remain superior. What is even

Essay about Carol Ann Duffy's Mean Time
Carol Ann Duffy's Mean Time
Carol Ann Duffy's poem 'Mean Time' is about loss of love and the different ways in which time
brings about change or loss of life itself. The poem is very personal and autobiographical to Duffy's
life as are most of her poems. 'Mean Time' is based on mourning your lost love and how regrets
seem meaningless when one day you get up and realise its not just time which has passed you by,
but time has stolen your life too, and in the end it will only be the mourning that you regret. The idea
of time and how it is finite is one of the main themes in the poem.
The title 'Mean Time' could be emphasising a few points one of which is how time can be 'mean'
when one needs a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stanza is ended by stating that it's 'our mistakes' she is recognising that her partner is not all to
blame and they need to share mistakes, this shows the first sign of putting her life back together.
The poem moves on and tells us how she wants just 'one hour' to be lifted so she 'would never have
said' the words she did. This sets the tone for the whole poem; regret and longing. It makes the
reader feel that she has wasted enough time of her life on this one man, its time to move on.
However one moment she is regretting spending too much time mourning her lost love, now she is
stepping over old territory again, which makes the poem a bit cliché, so the sympathy for the woman
is now lost.
One of the last important themes of 'Mean Time' is conveyed in the final stanza, this is how time is
finite 'we will be dead' because death is rapidly approaching everyone, which highlights the fact that
mourning is pointless. This is where the reader can relate to Duffy because they can share their
'mistakes' too because the events in the poem can happen to all most anybody. I believe that Duffy's
conclusion is do not let your heart take control of your life, you need to no when to move on.
The language throughout is very calm and well organised which helps

Essay about Love in Valentine and The Flea
Love in Valentine and The Flea
Through a close analysis of language, structure and theme, compare and contrast the poets' attitude
to love in Valentine and The Flea.
The poem "The Flea" is about a man trying to cunningly argue a woman into bed. John Donne's
"The Flea" was a metaphysical poem, written most probably, to entertain an audience of men; this
was called a coterie, which was a group of like–minded individuals who cleverly wrote for each
other's amusement. This poem was written sometime in the 17th century where religion was
extremely important and sex before marriage frowned upon. The poet is exploring ideas and feelings
about lust and how unimportant losing virginity is, which a woman will obviously object to. ...

He is persistent in his argument and irritating, this portrays himself as a replicate of a flea, just
trying to get what he wants.
In the first stanza John Donne is narrating to the reader. The flea has sucked his blood and hers and
he is now using this flea as an example for his argument by saying:
"Mark but this flea, and mark in this,
How little that which thou deniest me is;"
He is also implying that virginity is small and insignificant. This will obviously offend the girl
because virginity is a very important gift that a woman has to bestow on a man. But the poet does
not seem to give up on this point.
The poet uses cunning phrases such as:
"Thou know'st that this cannot be said
A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead;"
Which make me feel that he is lulling her into a sense of false security. This is a great technique to
win his argument.
At the end of stanza one, the poet becomes quite melodramatic:
"Yet this enjoys before it woo,
And pamper'd swells in one blood made of two;
And this, alas! is more than we would do."
Donne could be implying that the flea easily has enjoyment from sucking her blood and that he
himself has no pleasure from her. This might show he has an egotistical attitude towards women.
Donne's use of physical language such as "suck'd", "blood" and
"swells" implies his lustful desires and show the sensual undercurrents of the poem.

Al Capone And The St. Valentine's Day Massacre
"Only Capone's gang kills like that!" a quote by Bugs Moran, leader of North Side Gang"
(Gottesman 1). On February 14, 1929, seven men were killed in a warehouse loading zone in
Chicago, USA climaxing a huge rivalry between the North Side Gang and Al Capone's. Capone was
one of the most dominant and well–known gangsters during the Prohibition Era, ranging between
1920 and 1933. Prohibition in Chicago was huge, many people wanted to go out for a drink and
have a good time after work but the 18th amendment said otherwise. Capone thought he could take
this situation into his own hands by bootlegging beer and liquor throughout Chicago, but other
gangs such as Moran's wanted to join in creating a competition which resulted the St. Valentine's ...

"This great demand for and simultaneous legalization of alcohol opened up a new illegal market for
the gangster to develop and monopolize. As Al Capone put it, "All I do is to supply a public
demand... somebody had to throw some liquor on that thirst, Why not me?"(1). With the prohibition
getting everyone down, now that they can't drink a beer and go out with friends anymore Al Capone
thought he could take the reigns of this situation by starting to bootleg beer. He was already a leader
of a very large and successful gang so he thought that if he could get his men to secretly bootleg
beer in and out of Chicago then he would become one of the richest men in the U.S.. His dream
came true as he nearly pocketed 60 million dollars in one year alone and 60 million which is now
worth about 700 million dollars today. The prohibition didn't only affect Chicago, but it made Al
Capone a very wealthy man. As Capone was making million after million others wanted to get in on
this action, creating new gangs to try and halt Capone and his dominance. One of these gangs was
the Moran Gang, led by leader Bugs Moran, this gang ruled the North Side of Chicago while
Capone and his men ruled the south side.

Chocolate : What Makes Chocolate So Good?
About 60 billion pounds of chocolate are sold in the US alone, 58 billion pounds of chocolate are
sold the week before Valentine 's Day, and an average human consumes about 12 pounds of
chocolate in a year. When taking all these numbers into consideration, you begin to wonder what
makes chocolate so good? Does it have something to do with a certain desire that can be triggered
through chocolate? Studies shows that chocolate has the ability to trigger the feeling of love or
sexual desires. This got me interested on how chocolate can trigger these desires. This paper will
explain the different ways on how chocolate triggers certain desires. At first I believed that because

As stated in the last paragraph, chocolate can stimulate sexual desires, and one of those reasons in is
because chocolate contains PEA (phenylethylamine), a stimulant. For those of you who don't know
what a stimulant is, are psychoactive drugs that temporarily improve either mental or physical
functions, sometimes both. One of the effects of stimulant would be increasing arousal. PEA also
has the ability to enhance people in love. Basically, when you eat chocolate, chances are that
because of PEA, you may temporarily be in a state that mimics love vibes, feelings of love.
Chocolate can also create the feelings of pleasure as well as bring the feelings of love through an
endorphin rush. Endorphins are pain killing hormone. Finally, chocolate evokes
psychopharmacologic (study of drugs–induced changes in mood, thinking, and behavior) and
behavioral reactions. Studies show that chocolate cravings are often episodic and fluctuated with
hormonal changes. Chocolate also contains several biologically active constituents (describes the
beneficial or adverse effects of a drug) which causes abnormal behaviors. Those abnormal behaviors
can be from the effects of your health or mood. The ingredients wouldn't matter without the taste
and research shows that the taste of chocolate can

1. At a ripe young age of 12 years, Taylor Swift learned how to play guitar, especially how to go
about playing three chords on a guitar. I guess, this explains – why Tay Tay was born to 'string and

2. Know the background of her first name – Taylor? One fine day, it was her mother Andrea who
came up with (and coined) the first name 'Taylor' after the singer James Taylor. Why did she do that,
you may ask? Andrea – the mother of Taylor Swift thought it to be a gender–neutral name which
would get her daughter the success and recognition in life. This wish was granted and fulfilled by

All The Lies I 've Heard
Love. Of all the lies I've heard, "I love you" was my favorite (Pinterest). Seems like everyone has
their own definition for the word. One thing is for sure though is that everybody wants to be loved
but not many people are good at it or even know what it is. But the question still remains what the
hell is it? Perhaps we should look at the biblical sense of the word where in 2 Corinthians 13 we find
that, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not
dishonor others, it is not self–seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love
does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes,

the average female spending only 72.28 and unfortunately for the males 135.35. Valentine's Day has
evolved into showing others up with the best schemes of romance, and raking in a profit for the
retailers. Perhaps it is time for business in the US and even globally to understand that you can't buy
love, or even attraction. Most commercials on TV are all about the same. If you buy this product that
does blah blah blah somehow someway you'll end up with a beautiful guy or girl around your arm.
Take for example Vaibhav Bedi who for 7 years bought perfumes, deodorants, the whole nine yards
from Axe to entice females. Why? Because like most commercials show in their advertisements he
believed that if he bought their products women would flock to him. Sadly Mr. Bedi is still as single

Narrative Essay : Valentine's Day
It's Valentine's Day and I replay the scene from a year ago in my mind. Just like a referee, I examine
the play closely to determine exactly what happened that fateful day. My husband was packing. He
came out of the bedroom and bounced down the steps like a child beginning summer vacation.
Engrossed in my thoughts, I jump when the phone rings. At the other end a familiar voice said, "Just
called to invite you to spend Valentine's Day with our family." Embarrassed I stumbled over my
words, "I can't. The memory of a year ago is still too raw. Anyway, I don't want to intrude on your
celebration. I will bring everyone down." The young mother answered, "It is not an intrusion. The
kids are excited and you can't disappoint them. Besides Valentine's Day is about love and we love
you." As I hung up the phone, my gloomy mood started to dissipate. I wish my former counselor
heard this call. We had been talking for the last three weeks about ways to possibly save the
marriage, but at this visit I tell her that he moved out and I was ready to accept that the marriage is
over.We discussed many things during that office visit; however, right before I left she looked at me
and said, "You are single now. The women in your church will see you as a threat to their marriage.
A support system is important, but you probably need to find it elsewhere." Devastated by my
husband's leaving I was searching for advice on how to cope and move on. Were my ears deceiving
me? Did this Christian

Valentine's Day Argumentative Analysis
Based on the article "how valentine's day became a commercial juggernaut" which is written by
Meera Dolasia, proves that valentine's day is becoming one of the most expensive holidays in
America. Valentine's day was first celebrated in Rome at the time of 270 AD, this was the time of
emperor Claudius II, when he was emperor, Rome was one of the most powerful tribes, they
conquered almost half of the world, but then the soldiers wanted to get married and have families, so
the emperor thought that his army was getting soft, he then made a law that no soldier was allowed
to get married. Valentine, a bishop, thought it was unfair to not let soldiers have a chance to find
love, so he held several weddings in his church for the soldiers. But soon ... Show more content on

But people don't just buy random chocolates, they buy chocolates put into soft red heart–shaped
cases. When we write cards on valentine's day, some people wonder how the idea of writing cards
on valentine's day even got made up. Well, a woman named Esther Howland also called "The
Mother of the American Valentine", she was the first artist to sell handmade lace paper cards
featuring messages of love to retailers. With over than 145 million cards bought in the USA and
other countries, this also means that Valentine's day is now one of the biggest revenue generators for
greeting card factories. The fabulous idea of boxing chocolates in fancy heart shaped cases came
from Richard Cadbury, the founder of Cadbury's cocoa and chocolate company. Jewelry, flowers,
chocolates, cards are all really important because jewelry marks special times in your life that you
want to remember, and also jewelry can be passed down generations, and it almost doesn't break.
Flowers can help release stress and anxiety, they be more than that too, flowers can help with
weddings and in funerals, flowers bring a sense of peace and beauty to the sad occasion. Chocolate

When I was born to about the age of 8, I kept to myself and enjoyed playing alone. I didn't want
anyone else's input on what I had to say, because I was happy with the choices I was making when I
was playing with my toys. My mom told me I would sit in my room and play with my stuffed
animals and My Little Pet Shop toys for hours on end just talking away, but when it came down to
group settings I would just be quiet. I have been trying to figure out why that is. I do not remember
being to told be quiet or to listen. I just did it. I enjoyed listening to others, because I was learning
from their words. I already knew what I thought and didn't see the importance of sharing that.
There is a moment in my life that has molded me into who I am today. I was 10 years old when my
grandpa committed suicide. It was a very public death in my hometown, yet my parents told me he
died of a heart attack. I started to only trust myself more than I already did. I felt alone and
confused. I was attending a private catholic school with a class of 30 students. I was bullied for
something I didn't even do... I remember going home one day after kids kept taunting me about
having "a selfish grandpa who didn't listen to God" and running upstairs to the computer room and

Essay on 3-D Displays in the Marking Process
The use of 3D display in the marketing process plays a big role in sales and brand awareness. To
make brand awareness, a company needs a way to draw attention to their product and set itself apart
from the rest. That brand want the consumer's eyes to fall on its product only. One way to showcase
their product is to use 3D display which will give them a marketing advantage over their rivals.
Why 3D display? 2D display is amazing at giving preview of the product before a customer before
he or she buys it, however 3D display revolutionise where 2D left off by adding depth and
perspective to the product. 3D display will let the consumer try the product and buy it and then he or

Thus boosting sales without the hassle of advertising because people will talk about what's new.
The placement of products is the key in order to be noticed. If the product is place strategically,
marketing for the product is going to be really effective. To do this, consider the layout of the space.
Space gives way for the people to see the product up close without distractions. Customers are
sometimes in a rush and when they go inside the store, they will have to find the product quickly.
For those customers, they need plenty of space to get to the product and quickly figure out if it is the
product they need without any interferences from other products. Placing items that are popular on
the shelf at an eye level is also important because that would be the first thing that customer sees.
For example, in case of a forgotten Valentine's day and the customer needs to buy a last minute gift,
he or she will drop into the store to get one. If the first thing the customer sees on his or her radar is
a 3D display of organized chocolate boxes or bears that says "Happy Valentine Day" or " Be Mine"
then it would be more likely that the consumer will head to that location first. With no time to
browse, the items on the eye level will be the one to go first. Pressed for time, the consumer would
most likely pick the item up. Depending on the outcome later on, the

overcome the customer service and communications issues stemming from the Valentine's Day

History of St. Valentine's Day
History of St. Valentine's Day
Introduction:
Saint Valentine's Day (commonly shortened to Valentine's Day) is an annual commemoration
(celebration) held on February 14 celebrating love and affection between intimate companions.
The day is named after one or more early Christian martyrs(s somebody who suffers death for the
people) named Valentine.
It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers,
offering confectionery (CANDY) (is the set of food items that are rich in sugar), and sending
greeting cards (known as "valentines").
Modern Valentine's Day symbols include the heart–shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the
winged Cupid (winged boy). Since the 19th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
▪ St Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14 of each year; the reason why it is celebrated on this
day is because this was the day that the Patron Saint of Lovers "St Valentine" was supposedly
executed on. On this day lovers all around the world mark this occasion as a day for sending poems,
cards, flowers or candy, etc. They might also be a social gathering or ball to mark the occasion.
Valentine Traditions ▪ Hundreds of years ago in England, many children dressed up as adults on
Valentine's Day. They went singing from home to home. One verse they sang was: ▪ Good morning
to you, valentine; Curl your locks as I do mine ––– Two before and three behind. Good morning to
you, valentine. ▪ In Wales wooden love spoons were carved and given as gifts on February 14th.
Hearts, keys and keyholes were favourite decorations on the spoons. The decoration meant, "You
unlock my heart!" ▪ In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see
who their valentines would be. They would wear these names on their sleeves for one week. To wear
your heart on your sleeve now means that it is easy for other people to know how you are feeling. ▪
In some countries, a young woman may receive a gift of clothing from a young man. If she keeps
the gift, it means she will marry him. ▪ Some people used to believe

Throughout the day she wondered about this mysterious holiday. She tried looking for information
in the database. That left her even more puzzled. Why would Trip want to commemorate the death
of priest who died over 1600 years ago? Apparently he was considered a saint but as far as she
knew, Trip was not particularly religious.
At lunch she asked Hoshi. "Trip wishes to celebrate Saint Valentine's Day. Why would he wish to
commemorate the death of a priest who was executed over 1600 years ago?"
Hoshi almost spit out the bite of tuna salad she had just taken. She laughed. "T'Pol, the holiday may
have started with that but now it's about romance. Lots of hearts and flowers. And lots of chocolate.
Especially chocolate."
"I see," T'Pol said, although she was still puzzled. Before Hoshi could explain further, she was
called to the Bridge to deal with incoming messages from Starfleet.
T'Pol didn't have time to inquire further before she was due to arrive at Trip's quarters. She rang the
chime at exactly 1900. Trip immediately opened the door. He was dressed in a blue silk shirt and
grey wool pants. His hair was still damp from the shower; she smelled the sandalwood of his soap.
As she entered, he gave her a kiss and handed her a bouquet of red roses. "Happy Valentine's Day,

How To Put My Incapacitated Dog
On Wednesday, June 18, 2003, I had finalized the decision to put my incapacitated dog to rest. It
became a reality. I clearly remember the warm, breezy day that occurred two weeks ago. As I sat in
the freshly cutgrass of my front yard, I paid no attention to the sounds of the birds that were singing
or the leaves that were dancing on the trees. All that was on my mind was the details of the last 13
years and remembering the times we shared together. As I kept trying to convince myself that he
would not have to suffer another day from his ailments, I kept thinking of the first day that he came
into my life. I was 15 years old when I got Valen. It was Valentine's Day in 1990. Earlier that week
my mother was near Port Jervis, New York on a business trip. She had some free time before she
had to come home to Pennsylvania so she decided to stop at the local SPCA. Her intentions were to
simply look at the animals and then leave. She made her way to the area that housed the dogs. There
she found a shy, but friendly, golden retriever. He was a bit apprehensive at first, almost as if he was
neglected and abused, but it didn't take much of my mom's gentle touch and her soft, subtle voice
before this dog realized she was his savior. She decided that she would like to adopt this dog
however, the policy was strict, and there was a seven–day waiting period before you could adopt an
animal. This was in place to allow ample time for the owner to claim their animals if they got astray.
As much as my mom wanted to leave that day with the dog, she had to wait. It was on Tuesday,
February 13, 1990 that my mom received a call from the SPCA. They were pleased to have the
opportunity to offer her the dog through adoption since no one had come forward to claim him. She
decided that she would go back to New York the next day to pick him up. On Valentine's Day, I got
home from school and to my surprise I was greeted at the door by this vivacious, brown–eyed
golden retriever. I was so excited and I immediately sat down on the cold, ceramic floor and played
with my new friend. We rolled all over the floor and I was giggling as he licked my face, and at the
same time, he was whimpering with happiness. We did this for about an hour until I

Cupids and Capone St. Valentine's Day, a holiday for which love is expressed is a commemoration
that occurs once a year. It is a time of year in which displays of affection are given in the form of
chocolates and roses, interchanged between loved ones. However in the year 1929, Valentine's Day
was forever changed for the people of Chicago, Illinois. A man by the name of Scarface, Al Capone,
transformed it into a day of bloody massacre. A familiar bootlegger in Chicago, Al Capone made a
point in indicating to anyone who interfered with his business that they would be terminated
immediately. The attack, which is now forever remembered as The St. Valentine's Day Massacre,

Even President Herbert Hoover was aware of the situation in Chicago and he influenced the IRS to
find any way necessary to break up Capone's gang. Hoover hired Detective Eliot Ness, to recruit
men to form a group called the Untouchables. This team was sent out to hunt down Capone and his
dealings, and indict him on anything legible. Ness managed to infiltrate Capone's bootlegging ring,
but Capone was never tried on Prohibition offenses.
In conclusion, the St. Valentine's Day Massacre will always be a moment in American history that
highlights the atrocities of organized crime in the 1920s. Because a prominent figure emerged from
the early streets of the "Windy City", the organized crime ring was brought to the forefront of
American attention. Prohibition would last until 1933, but the effects of Al Capone have yet to

The Origin and Continuation of the Greeting Card
The Origin and Continuation of the Greeting Card
The perfect words, the right sentiments, the ability to say exactly what we ourselves can't: just a few
ways greeting cards are defined. Greeting cards, the stars of today, started with a humble beginning.
The custom of sending greeting cards can be traced back to the ancient Chinese, who exchanged
messages of good will to celebrate the New Year, and to the early Egyptians, who conveyed their
greetings on papyrus scrolls. By the early 1400s, handmade paper greeting cards were being
exchanged in Europe. The Germans are known to have printed New Year's greetings from woodcuts
as early as 1400, and handmade paper Valentines were being exchanged in various parts of Europe

"First in person, then via post, by 1822, homemade Christmas cards had become the bane of the
U.S. postal system. That year, the Superintendent of Mails in Washington, D.C., complained of the
need to hire sixteen extra mailmen. Fearful of future bottlenecks, he petitioned Congress to limit the
exchange of cards by post, concluding, 'I don't know what we'll do if it keeps on'." (Panati) Of the
original one thousand cards printed for Henry Cole, twelve exist today in private collections.
Printed cards soon became the rage in England; then in Germany. But it required an additional thirty
years for Americans to take to the idea. In 1875, Boston lithographer Louis Prang, a native of
Germany, began publishing cards, and earned the title "father of the American Christmas
card.""Prang's high–quality cards were costly, and they initially featured not images as the Madonna
and Child, a decorated tree, or even Santa Claus, but of colored floral arrangements of roses, daisies,
gardenias, geraniums, and apple blossoms. Americans took to Christmas cards, but unfortunately,

Modern Day Valentine's
The poem is essentially a critique of the cliched commercial form that the modern Valentine's Day
has become. More generally it is also critical of a form of 'love' which lacks honesty, meaning, and
use of the imagination. Duffy uses the symbol of an onion to represent a truly meaningful gift for
one's lover. This is the opposite of the "cute card or a kissogram"(l.12). The poem asks the reader to
evaluate not only this view of love, but also his or her conception of Valentine's Day in particular
and love in general; this conception may have become accepted without question.
The structure of the poem has been skilfully manipulated to emphasise Duffy's key points. Important
ideas have been deliberately highlighted by isolating them in the form of one line verse paragraphs.
We also have the run on line (enjambment) used again to create smooth flow downward. Lastly, we
have the use of a form of dialogue; the narrator is speaking to her lover, but he does not reply. This
serves to give us the effect of a dialogue without the strictly correct dramatic format. It is a distinctly
one–sided dialogue which expresses the perspective of the narrator and perhaps invites the reader to
enter the debate.
Analysis:
"I give you an onion" – immediately a strange thing to give someone; usually associated with
repelling people/ unromantic in the extreme – think of what happens when you eat onions.
Not a red rose or satin heart." – symbols of the cliched commercial and, according to Duffy,

Valentine's is developed in contemporary culture as the most romantic day of the whole year, but its
history is not the cards, love hearts and restaurants that it's now. Dating back to the times of historic
Roman martyrs, it wasn't till 500 AD a feast day was founded on the 14th February to commemorate
Valentine
Big debate encircling the foundation of Valentine's Day is set up name pertains to one martyr, or
many of them all known as Valentine (or Valentinus in Latin). There have been a number of martyrs
referred to as Valentine from the same ancient Roman time, so it isn't conclusively understand which
one of these the feast was in fact established to celebrate. However, the Saint Valentine that the feast
is generally most connected with was buried on 14th February simply a little north of Rome, but
besides that very little is in fact know about probably the most popular saints in the annals of the
church. Actually, because so little is well known about the Valentine involved, he was taken off the
Catholic calendar of saints when it had been revised in 1969.
What is known for certain is that the feast to celebrate Saint Valentine was established by Pope

Comparing Valentine's Day And The Lottery
Valentine's Day Although about 50% of Americans decide not to celebrate Valentine's Day, but that
doesn't stop those who do from spending a total of $19 billion annually (Valentine's Day Statistics
and Trends)! This statistic is from 2016 and the amount spent was an all–time high. Known to
almost everyone, Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14th and is considered the day dedicated
to love. So why do so many people still celebrate this day and how has it evolved into the day of
love from previously honoring the death of a couple of men? It has become a tradition, much like
the lottery has become a tradition in the story, "The Lottery." Valentine's Day is a tradition, much
like that of the "lottery" except it will never fade away, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The events that you take part in with your loved ones are to be cherished forever. Valentine's Day is
supposed to reignite the spark between relationships and remind individuals of their feelings. In
"The Lottery" when someone pulls the slip with a black dot on it, each of their family members is
required to pull another slip of paper, including children, and whichever family member draws the
slip with a black dot is then put in the town square and stoned by the villagers. The whole town is
forced to show up unless they physically can't. A man named Clyde Dunbar broke his leg and wasn't
able to draw for his family and his son wasn't eighteen yet, so Mrs. Dunbar had to draw for her
family. Once roll call is taken, the present leader of the household draws a slip of paper from a black
box for their family (Jackson). In this village, the people are given satisfaction once the person is
stoned because they are relieved the tradition continued, but in reality the emotion has changed. The
explanation of Valentine's Day history matched with the analysis of "The Lottery" gives a clear idea
that tradition either changes or simply ends. The tradition of "The Lottery" has lost its importance.
The Valentine's Day holiday, even though it has changed its purpose, will be relevant for many years
to come as it shows the importance of love, appreciation of loved ones, and the giving of

Chocolate Art Research Paper

  • 1. Chocolate Art Research Paper Chocolate art!! Yep this week we are combining two of my favorite things chocolate and art. Before I explain the process to this I have to admit working with chocolate is not easy. I used chocolate chips if you recreate this you may want to use any melts that you can find at the craft store. Candy melts are a lot less temperamental than chocolate and you will have a better finished product than I did. I was trolling through Pinterest and I found this I how much fun it would be to recreate this cake in honor of my family on valentines day. You could also use this same method to recreate some pictures that your children have drawn and use it on a special cake for them. I teach cake decorating for Wilton and we use this method with royal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cake is easier and cleaner to work with chilled and the chocolate has to have an hour or two to set. The finished cake had the heads of all my family on it as well as my cat and the outline of our house. Everyone had a blast getting a piece that had their head attached. This is a fun way to bring kids into he kitchen and to create a one of a kind cake that will be special to the whole family. Don't worry about how the finished product looks, even if everything breaks and you sprinkle the chocolate over the top it was still fun had by the whole family and it is still yummy cake so it is a win win :) Get your kids in the kitchen have fun and make messes but most importantly make ... • 3. Pros And Cons Of Valentine's Day February February...there's a lot of things I think about in this month. The first thing I think about is Valentine's Day, with all the love in the air. Most importantly, the second thing I think about is Black History. In everybody's mind this is the shortest month of the year, it's about love, and the appreciation of African Americans. What is Valentine's Day? Valentine's Day is going out your way to do something for a loved one. But why should people have to really show their love for someone in a certain month, on a certain day? Love should always be expressed everyday. Valentine's Day was created by a man named St. Valentine. There are many stories on how this became such a big holiday, but one story says that he was imprisoned and he wrote the "first Valentine" to the love of his life because he was going to die, ending the letter with "From your Valentine." Later in life, it became more about love because people during the middle ages began to realize that during the middle of February is which the 14th, the birds' mating season had beginned which resulted in love. But, I feel that Valentine's Day has its pros and cons. It is about being loved by someone and being able to express how you feel towards a loved one. This day is usually men going out their way to do something special for their significant other. Sometimes it is the women doing something special, but the men are usually the ones to do something special first. Some people have a really good Valentine's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Personal Narrative: Temporary Invisibility "She had the oddest sense of being herself invisible; unseen; unknown..." (Virginia Woolf). The feeling of invisibility comes in many forms, and is experienced by a majority of people at a point in their lives. The feeling of invisibility can be temporary, as it was for me in second grade, or sadly continue throughout a person's lifetime. Temporary invisibility can be seen as a realization and lead to positive outcomes and a change of perspective about life. The first time I experienced invisibility was at the young age of seven when I declared my love to my, back then, second grade crush Juan Flores. In second grade I had the biggest crush on my classmate, Juan. I remember blushing every time he would talk to me, share a smile with me, or merely look at me. I had been feeling the connection I had with Juan ever since I could remember, but as second grader, I learned that the feelings I had for him were known as a "crush". Only my best friend, at the time, Nicole Zuniga, knew about the way I felt about Juan. She would always urge me to tell him and she would never dissuade me like the good friend she was. She would never fail to drop random hints about my feelings to Juan. I didn't want to tell him because I was afraid he would reject me and shame me in front of my other classmates. It seemed overwrought to tell Juan how I felt, but with a confident ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My thoughts of ending my Valentine's Day in a jovial way were ephemeral. • 7. Why Do The Same With Your Business? Identify your type Just as in real life it's important know who is right for you. You wouldn 't commit to a relationship with someone you didn 't fancy would you. So why do the same with your business? Seek only qualified sales leads and customers and reach out to those who are likely to convert to a solid sale a rather than wasting your time with those customers that are teasing you, playing hard to get or just plain using you. Learn to be picky, Don't be afraid to only go after the business that tickles your fancy. Put yourself out there If lonely, you know that sitting indoors watching crappy television and eating icecream is no way to find a new partner (unless the pizza delivery boy takes your fancy). The same applies to your business. If the notches on your office desk are looking a little thin and your client list isn 't at its best then you need to get out there a promote your business, the same way you would sign up to dating websites, go out to a few bars or ask your friend to set you up on a date. No one knows you exist unless you get your brand out there. Spread the word about your business through Search Engines, Content Marketing, Social Media, Networking Events and the likes. • 9. Attitudes Towards Love in Pre-1900 and 1990's Poetry Essay Attitudes Towards Love in Pre–1900 and 1990's Poetry "The Despairing Lover" written by William Walsh was written pre 1900 whilst the second poem "I Wouldn't Thank you for a Valentine" by Liz Lockhead was written in the 1990's. These poems are almost a century apart. Attitude towards love changes over time and these poems represent this. I Wouldn't Thank you for a Valentine is about how people think about Valentine's Day in the 1990's, while The Despairing Lover is showing what people think and how important they see love in the 1990's. In "The Despairing Lover" William Walsh sets out the poem like a story with a beginning a middle and an end. This narrative structure of the poem gives the poem three clear stages this making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This enables me to come to the conclusion that the poet isn't a strong enough to cope with this matter by himself. This also shows the poets frame of mind. It suggest the poet see it as love or nothing and that he was obsessed with this girl. It gives an insight into his relationship with this girl that it was only a one way thing, he really loved her but she didn't really love him and that's why he is really upset. In the despairing lover, the idea we get of the setting is the Cliffside where he wants to commit suicide. He chooses somewhere like a cliff to kill himself as it is a lot more dramatic to jump of a cliff. This could also show us that the poet is maybe doing this for attention and that he was never really going to kill himself but was just trying to make a scene this is another insight into how the poet is thinking. The setting also shows the time when the poem was written, as at that time it would be very typical way to commit suicide by jumping of a cliff or a building. While in today's society, a typical way to commit suicide would probably be to take an overdose of tablet or slit your wrists. In addition, the idea of the poet committing suicide because of love tells us a lot about the poet. You would expect that if anyone was going to kill themselves it would the woman out of the relationship, as they are more in touch with there emotions. It is very much ... The children do spend a significant amount of time (about 10 minutes or more) in this center, building things that are color see through. However, whoever was in this center spends a large amount of time in it, since it's a small space as well it 's limited to two children at a time. It gets less attention than the other centers in the room. Later on in the end, of my observation period, it got less attention. I believe it was a result of newer things that were introduced in the classroom that took the attention away from this center. Another issue, it's located in an area that 's almost hidden away in the back of the room in a corner. The children would have to get through the other centers or areas on the way to the Lightbox. It could be possible the children's interest changes on the way there seeing another child playing in another center that looks more appealing. I would recommend changing the material in this center weekly or bring in new materials to freshen up the center and to renew interests from the children. Sensory: This area always has at least one child at it at all times. The children really enjoyed feeling things with their hands. Enslaving Nature of Love Exposed in Lucretius Essay Enslaving Nature of Love Exposed in Lucretius In Dryden's Lucretius, the speaker argues that (1) Love is a sickness, (2) Love's sickness enslaves, and (3) all attempts to remedy Love's sickness are vain and will only frustrate the lover. Just as Milton's Adam and Eve become enslaved to sin by disobeying God, so mankind becomes enslaved to Love when pierced with Cupid's "winged arrow". In Milton, there is redemption and freedom through Christ, but in Dryden, no salvation from love is possible. This poem leaves mankind in a hopeless, frustrated state, unable to break free from love's yoke. This essay will center on the last heroic couplet: "All wayes they try, successeless all they prove,/To cure the secret sore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem argues that love is not only a sickness, but also as a form of enslavement. The couplet argues that "All the wayes they try, successeless all they prove" implies that these lovers are trapped, and cannot satisfy love's demands. This enslavement idea is further proved upon examining the method by which a person falls in love: "From whence he first was struck, he thither tends; Restless he roams, impatient to be freed". The lover is described as "impatient to be freed" which implies that he is not free, but instead a victim, "struck" by a "Fiery dart", and now is cursed with an "endless appetite" for love. The lover is a slave seeking satisfaction, but never finding it: "Hence thirst and hunger may be satisfi'd,/But this repletion is to Love deny'd". Once a person is struck with Cupid's arrow, enslavement begins and "Love with fantomes cheats our longing eyes,/Which hourly seeing never satisfies". Love's enslavement not only makes all attempts to break free fruitless, but also makes the frustrates the lover. In the enslaved state, the lovers tries to satisfy love's demands, "eager to inject the sprightly seed" but "All the wayes they try", the lovers fail. The St. Valentine's Day Massacre Valentine's Day, a day of expressing your love to others by chocolates and roses or a day to express your hate to someone by planning a massacre to scare your rival? It happened when Al Capone men went into Bugs Moran headquarters where they entered dressed in police officers uniforms and demanded for the place to be raid where as Bugs Moran's men were then lined up in a white wall where the police officers would see their lifeless bodies full of bullets in the morning (This Day in History: The St. Valentine's Day Massacre). The Saint Valentine's Massacre was a well thought out plan since no one was able to have solid proof that it was Al Capone. In Saint Valentine's article in This Day in History it states the plan was carried out fairly easy since both were familiar with transporting alcohol and such Bugs Moran was expecting whiskey in his main headquarters but he was running late. When he noticed police officers walking into the headquarters and waited outside thinking his men were being arrested in a raid by police officers but the real reality of it once they leave will be the turning point of mobs. What happen inside Bugs Moran's headquarters was undoubtedly one of the most painful massacres of mobs. Moran's men also believing it was a raid did as they were told by what they thought what the police would be lined up against a wall and then be shot to death. The seven men were shot at least fifteen times and and it was revealed as their bodies were examined that they were even shot when they were on floor according to Capone: The Man and the Era By Laurence Bergreen page 316. The guns used in the massacre was two Thompson submachine guns in which left two of the seven men faces beyond recognition as stated by Brent Ashcroft in St. Valentine's Day Massacre: Tale of two guns. Essay about Carol Ann Duffy's Mean Time Carol Ann Duffy's Mean Time Carol Ann Duffy's poem 'Mean Time' is about loss of love and the different ways in which time brings about change or loss of life itself. The poem is very personal and autobiographical to Duffy's life as are most of her poems. 'Mean Time' is based on mourning your lost love and how regrets seem meaningless when one day you get up and realise its not just time which has passed you by, but time has stolen your life too, and in the end it will only be the mourning that you regret. The idea of time and how it is finite is one of the main themes in the poem. The title 'Mean Time' could be emphasising a few points one of which is how time can be 'mean' when one needs a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stanza is ended by stating that it's 'our mistakes' she is recognising that her partner is not all to blame and they need to share mistakes, this shows the first sign of putting her life back together. The poem moves on and tells us how she wants just 'one hour' to be lifted so she 'would never have said' the words she did. This sets the tone for the whole poem; regret and longing. It makes the reader feel that she has wasted enough time of her life on this one man, its time to move on. However one moment she is regretting spending too much time mourning her lost love, now she is stepping over old territory again, which makes the poem a bit cliché, so the sympathy for the woman is now lost. One of the last important themes of 'Mean Time' is conveyed in the final stanza, this is how time is finite 'we will be dead' because death is rapidly approaching everyone, which highlights the fact that mourning is pointless. This is where the reader can relate to Duffy because they can share their 'mistakes' too because the events in the poem can happen to all most anybody. I believe that Duffy's conclusion is do not let your heart take control of your life, you need to no when to move on. The language throughout is very calm and well organised which helps ... • 23. Essay about Love in Valentine and The Flea Love in Valentine and The Flea Through a close analysis of language, structure and theme, compare and contrast the poets' attitude to love in Valentine and The Flea. The poem "The Flea" is about a man trying to cunningly argue a woman into bed. John Donne's "The Flea" was a metaphysical poem, written most probably, to entertain an audience of men; this was called a coterie, which was a group of like–minded individuals who cleverly wrote for each other's amusement. This poem was written sometime in the 17th century where religion was extremely important and sex before marriage frowned upon. The poet is exploring ideas and feelings about lust and how unimportant losing virginity is, which a woman will obviously object to. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is persistent in his argument and irritating, this portrays himself as a replicate of a flea, just trying to get what he wants. In the first stanza John Donne is narrating to the reader. The flea has sucked his blood and hers and he is now using this flea as an example for his argument by saying: "Mark but this flea, and mark in this, How little that which thou deniest me is;" He is also implying that virginity is small and insignificant. This will obviously offend the girl because virginity is a very important gift that a woman has to bestow on a man. But the poet does not seem to give up on this point. The poet uses cunning phrases such as: "Thou know'st that this cannot be said A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead;" Which make me feel that he is lulling her into a sense of false security. This is a great technique to win his argument.
  • 24. At the end of stanza one, the poet becomes quite melodramatic: "Yet this enjoys before it woo, And pamper'd swells in one blood made of two; And this, alas! is more than we would do." Donne could be implying that the flea easily has enjoyment from sucking her blood and that he himself has no pleasure from her. This might show he has an egotistical attitude towards women. Donne's use of physical language such as "suck'd", "blood" and "swells" implies his lustful desires and show the sensual undercurrents of the poem. At the start of the ... On February 14, 1929, seven men were killed in a warehouse loading zone in Chicago, USA climaxing a huge rivalry between the North Side Gang and Al Capone's. Capone was one of the most dominant and well–known gangsters during the Prohibition Era, ranging between 1920 and 1933. Prohibition in Chicago was huge, many people wanted to go out for a drink and have a good time after work but the 18th amendment said otherwise. With the prohibition getting everyone down, now that they can't drink a beer and go out with friends anymore Al Capone thought he could take the reigns of this situation by starting to bootleg beer. He was already a leader of a very large and successful gang so he thought that if he could get his men to secretly bootleg beer in and out of Chicago then he would become one of the richest men in the U.S.. His dream came true as he nearly pocketed 60 million dollars in one year alone and 60 million which is now worth about 700 million dollars today. The prohibition didn't only affect Chicago, but it made Al Capone a very wealthy man. As Capone was making million after million others wanted to get in on this action, creating new gangs to try and halt Capone and his dominance. One of these gangs was the Moran Gang, led by leader Bugs Moran, this gang ruled the North Side of Chicago while Capone and his men ruled the south side. She's the one having a Valentine's Day wedding." It was more of a statement than a question. Sylvie always dreamed of a big dreamy wedding on the most romantic day of the year. She'd planned to marry Renny too, but some plans weren't meant to be. Some people weren't meant to have happily ever after. He yawned again, covering his mouth. "Yup. Personally, I don't get the big hoopla about Valentine's Day. It's a made–up holiday where men are forced to spend a stupid amount of money on crap. Flowers that die in less than a week or chocolate that's been sitting on the shelve since the previous holiday. It's funny to me that you buy into that hype. I'm glad I've never had to celebrate." How could anyone not like Valentine's Day? "Love deserves to be celebrated. It's romantic and what do you mean you've never celebrated? Surely, you bought Marianne presents and took her out for dinner." "I'm pragmatic. Oh, she bitched a little when I didn't get all bent out of shape over the commercialized date. I don't want to be forced to do things because I'm supposed to. When I wanted to, I bought her gifts. I didn't have much money when we dated, so I let her pick the movie on that date. • 59. How To Put My Incapacitated Dog On Wednesday, June 18, 2003, I had finalized the decision to put my incapacitated dog to rest. It became a reality. I clearly remember the warm, breezy day that occurred two weeks ago. As I sat in the freshly cutgrass of my front yard, I paid no attention to the sounds of the birds that were singing or the leaves that were dancing on the trees. All that was on my mind was the details of the last 13 years and remembering the times we shared together. As I kept trying to convince myself that he would not have to suffer another day from his ailments, I kept thinking of the first day that he came into my life. I was 15 years old when I got Valen. It was Valentine's Day in 1990. Earlier that week my mother was near Port Jervis, New York on a business trip. She had some free time before she had to come home to Pennsylvania so she decided to stop at the local SPCA. Her intentions were to simply look at the animals and then leave. She made her way to the area that housed the dogs. There she found a shy, but friendly, golden retriever. He was a bit apprehensive at first, almost as if he was neglected and abused, but it didn't take much of my mom's gentle touch and her soft, subtle voice before this dog realized she was his savior. She decided that she would like to adopt this dog however, the policy was strict, and there was a seven–day waiting period before you could adopt an animal. This was in place to allow ample time for the owner to claim their animals if they got astray. As much as my mom wanted to leave that day with the dog, she had to wait. It was on Tuesday, February 13, 1990 that my mom received a call from the SPCA. They were pleased to have the opportunity to offer her the dog through adoption since no one had come forward to claim him. She decided that she would go back to New York the next day to pick him up. On Valentine's Day, I got home from school and to my surprise I was greeted at the door by this vivacious, brown–eyed golden retriever. I was so excited and I immediately sat down on the cold, ceramic floor and played with my new friend. We rolled all over the floor and I was giggling as he licked my face, and at the same time, he was whimpering with happiness. We did this for about an hour until I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a time of year in which displays of affection are given in the form of chocolates and roses, interchanged between loved ones. Ness managed to infiltrate Capone's bootlegging ring, but Capone was never tried on Prohibition offenses. In conclusion, the St. Valentine's Day Massacre will always be a moment in American history that highlights the atrocities of organized crime in the 1920s. The Origin and Continuation of the Greeting Card The Origin and Continuation of the Greeting Card The perfect words, the right sentiments, the ability to say exactly what we ourselves can't: just a few ways greeting cards are defined. Greeting cards, the stars of today, started with a humble beginning. The custom of sending greeting cards can be traced back to the ancient Chinese, who exchanged messages of good will to celebrate the New Year, and to the early Egyptians, who conveyed their greetings on papyrus scrolls. By the early 1400s, handmade paper greeting cards were being exchanged in Europe. That year, the Superintendent of Mails in Washington, D.C., complained of the need to hire sixteen extra mailmen. Fearful of future bottlenecks, he petitioned Congress to limit the exchange of cards by post, concluding, 'I don't know what we'll do if it keeps on'." (Panati) Of the original one thousand cards printed for Henry Cole, twelve exist today in private collections. Printed cards soon became the rage in England; then in Germany. But it required an additional thirty years for Americans to take to the idea. In 1875, Boston lithographer Louis Prang, a native of Germany, began publishing cards, and earned the title "father of the American Christmas card.""Prang's high–quality cards were costly, and they initially featured not images as the Madonna and Child, a decorated tree, or even Santa Claus, but of colored floral arrangements of roses, daisies, gardenias, geraniums, and apple blossoms. • 73. Modern Day Valentine's The poem is essentially a critique of the cliched commercial form that the modern Valentine's Day has become. More generally it is also critical of a form of 'love' which lacks honesty, meaning, and use of the imagination. Duffy uses the symbol of an onion to represent a truly meaningful gift for one's lover. This is the opposite of the "cute card or a kissogram"(l.12). The poem asks the reader to evaluate not only this view of love, but also his or her conception of Valentine's Day in particular and love in general; this conception may have become accepted without question. The structure of the poem has been skilfully manipulated to emphasise Duffy's key points. Important ideas have been deliberately highlighted by isolating them in the form of one line verse paragraphs. We also have the run on line (enjambment) used again to create smooth flow downward. Lastly, we have the use of a form of dialogue; the narrator is speaking to her lover, but he does not reply. This serves to give us the effect of a dialogue without the strictly correct dramatic format. It is a distinctly one–sided dialogue which expresses the perspective of the narrator and perhaps invites the reader to enter the debate. Analysis: "I give you an onion" – immediately a strange thing to give someone; usually associated with repelling people/ unromantic in the extreme – think of what happens when you eat onions. Not a red rose or satin heart." – symbols of the cliched commercial and, according to Duffy, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The events that you take part in with your loved ones are to be cherished forever. Valentine's Day is supposed to reignite the spark between relationships and remind individuals of their feelings. In "The Lottery" when someone pulls the slip with a black dot on it, each of their family members is required to pull another slip of paper, including children, and whichever family member draws the slip with a black dot is then put in the town square and stoned by the villagers. The whole town is forced to show up unless they physically can't. A man named Clyde Dunbar broke his leg and wasn't able to draw for his family and his son wasn't eighteen yet, so Mrs. Dunbar had to draw for her family. Once roll call is taken, the present leader of the household draws a slip of paper from a black box for their family (Jackson). In this village, the people are given satisfaction once the person is stoned because they are relieved the tradition continued, but in reality the emotion has changed. The explanation of Valentine's Day history matched with the analysis of "The Lottery" gives a clear idea that tradition either changes or simply ends.
