returns to Sandbanks, Poole.
Britain’s premier beach location plays host to Polo’s finest in a festival of sport and music.
THE EVENT
Building on the huge success of the last two years the British Beach Polo Championships,
2010 promises to be a phenomenal event bringing with it widespread polo, business and
social acclaim. The format for a great summer day on the beach is simple:
G Teams of the most talented international and national polo players will compete for the
Championship title over the 2 days.
G England V South America - An international match between the rival Beach Polo Teams
will take place as the finale on each day.
G The Oakley Professional Beach Volleyball and the Audi/Polo Pony Charity Race.
G Other sporting and social activities to be enjoyed with sumptuous refreshments
throughout the day whilst guests take in this exciting and glamorous spectacle, both on
and off the pitch.
G Players, celebrities and supporters alike enjoy the Sandpolo after-parties.
We hope you, along with the Hurlingham Polo Association, The International Beach
Polo Association and the Borough of Poole, will wish to be involved in the British Beach
Polo Championships 2010.
THE POLO
‘Only one sport is glamorous enough for the platinum peninsula of Sandbanks’
The Times
Competing beach polo teams are of an extremely high standard. The teams are evenly
matched to ensure a true gladiatorial sporting spectacle.
‘The matches are fast and furious, and the extra-large orange ball, designed not
to get lost in the sand, flies around at speeds of up to 100mph..’ The Guardian
The sport is mesmerizing, a magnificent display of horsemanship, speed and stamina.
Other than it being 3 a side rather than 4 and using a different size ball the ponies and
equipment are the same as conventional grass polo. Beach Polo’s smaller playing area
provides an intimate and exciting atmosphere for both players and spectators. The polo
ponies love the sand - they can accelerate and stop fast and can turn extremely sharply.
The players’ skill, in the saddle and with the ball, is tested to the full. The thrill and
excitement of horses galloping on the sand with the English Channel as a backdrop, whilst
sipping champagne amid glitzy and glamorous company, is a vision to remember – an
intoxicating mix. Polo players engage with the sponsors and spectators both on and off
the pitch. Traditionally, a polo team works as hard in the bar and at the post
match party as they do on the sand.
MEDIA REACH
The British Beach Polo Championships is proud of it’s media reach of 60 million for
2008 and 2009. From international, national and regional media, from the likes of
The Guardian, ITV and The Times, the Beach Polo attracts extensive coverage:
G 109 pieces of print and online press coverage (53 print and 56 online)
This equated to an Advertising Value Equivalent (AVE) exceeding £177,000. Editorial
value equates to at least three times the value of above-the-line advertising, therefore the
editorial weighting totals more than £532,000.
G Total readership: 29,132,389
G Total listenership: 1,829,000
G 13 pieces of broadcast coverage were achieved, with 2 television transmissions
and 11 radio broadcasts
G 6 online broadcast pieces

The Sandpolo After-Party
The Beach Polo After Parties deserve the accolade of being some of the best parties in the
social calendar. The Players Party Marquee on the sand plays host to the finest DJs and
special guests to ensure the beach rocks with a seamless mix of music, dance and fun.
Without pretentiousness, but exuding an abundance of class and style, it is the ultimate
destination for major players and music lovers. Whether part of a VIP party table or simply
enjoying the many bars, evening food and variety of music the party is a perfect end to a
fantastic day of sport and fun.
The Location
Sandbanks is probably the most exclusive beach community in the UK. The infamous
peninsular extends out across Poole Harbour on the scenic Dorset coast. It boasts
upmarket luxurious homes, pristine beaches and tree lines avenues. This is the
cosmopolitan centre of the English Rivera with land values some of the highest in the
world. It is easily accessible with a fast rail connection (100 minutes direct from London
Waterloo), good road access (30 minutes from Southampton) and 2 International airports
within 45 minutes. Some car parking is available. The beach itself is unsurpassed, holding a
European Blue Flag (top accolade for beach cleanliness) for a record 20 years. What better
place to host the British Beach Polo Championships.
Sponsorship and Advertising
The Championships offers an exclusive opportunity for sponsors to promote their
company and entertain their clients. Media coverage exceeds a ‘reach’ of 60 million.
Grandstand seats and hospitality sells out in advance of the event and thousands flock
to catch a glimpse of the action from the beach and from their yachts. From title or team
sponsorship to advertising in the programme or around the arena boards - the event has
opportunities to suit international, national or local brands. Previous sponsors include
Barclays Wealth, Sunseeker, Pommery, Oakley and Hotel Du Vin. Advertisers include Ralph
Lauren, Savills and Hildon as well as many local brands such as Poole Audi and Cafe
Shore. The International quality of the play will ensure core polo support and the exclusive
environment has cemented the Event’s position as one of the unique places to be seen in
the sporting and social calendar.
The Charities
The Charities of choice for the event are The Heaton-Ellis Trust and Julia’s House.
