Project Samvedna is a COVID relief initiative by Welham Boys' School and AAN Charitable Trust to provide medical supplies to districts in Uttarakhand hard hit by the second wave. They have so far distributed oxygen monitors, thermometers, PPE kits, sanitation supplies, and medicines to Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, and Uttarkashi districts. The funds raised have allowed them to provide these critical resources to support isolated patients and supplement the district administration's pandemic response efforts. While the project scope is currently small, organizers aim to expand relief distribution to additional Uttarakhand districts as more funding becomes available.

From modest beginnings as a preparatory school established by Ms. H. S. Oliphant in 1937,
Welham Boys’ has grown to become an established residential school located in Dehradun.
Over the last 83 years, the school has groomed generations of boys for roles of responsibility
and leadership. A few of our notable alumni are former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Mansur
Ali Khan of Pataudi, Mani Shankar Aiyar, Capt Amarinder Singh of Patiala, Shaad Ali to name
a few.

AAN Charitable Trust is an emerging non-profit organization, conceptualized on a single
thought that ‘a small gesture we make makes a big difference’. AAN is a Social
Entrepreneurship with no political or religious background. Aan meaning ‘dignity’ in Hindi is a
multi-faceted organization, working towards sustainable development goals (SDGs)
particularly good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, and sustainable
cities and communities.

3. Our Mission
These are tough times for the hill districts of Uttarakhand. The
second wave of Covid-19 has made its way deeper into the
villages of Uttarakhand. Welham Boys’ School along with
AAN Charitable Trust, Kashipur under its philanthropic
initiative ‘Project SAMVEDNA’ is trying to mobilize resources
to fill crucial gaps in the hilly districts of Uttarakhand.
The duty befalls on us(both the institutions) to foresee the
problems of these districts and aid them as the districts are
reasonably close in proximity to both the institutions. Thus,
making it convenient for us to help heal the hills.
Through this campaign, we aim to provide PPE kits,
oximeters, gloves, surgical masks, thermometers,
disinfectants, Covid medicine kits, dry ration kits, hygiene kits
to district hospitals, panchayats, shelter homes & other
institutions in the hill districts of Uttarakhand, free of cost.

4. Plan of Action
With the sudden rise in Covid-19 cases, the nine hill districts of Uttarakhand
were left distraught as the cases doubled over the past sixty days, Pauri
being the worst affected of all; Between April 1 and May 13, the district's
tally shot up to 12970 cases and 200 deaths. The situation in Uttarkashi is
no different. Uttarakhand features among the eight states red-flagged by the
centre where the cases are increasing rapidly in rural areas. With the funds
raised to date, Under Project Samvedna we are sending 150 oximeters, 300
digital thermometers, 150 PPE Kits, 225 steam inhalers, 15 Nebulisers, 60
litres of sanitiser, 600 litres of Disinfectant, 9000 surgical 3ply masks, 750
Dignity kits(menstrual hygiene kits), 1500 strips each of Paracetamol,
Ivermectin, Montair, VitaminD sachet, B-complex with zinc, 600 strips each
of Azithromycin and Doxycycline and Budecort to the District administration
of Pauri, Tehri Garwhal and Uttarkashi to fill in the crucial gaps and contain
the number of rising cases.
After catering to the initial districts, we aim to expand our range to the other
districts which are comparatively less affected than those mentioned above.
Although, the quantity of relief material we will supply is solely dependent
on the funds we’ll be able to raise after tending to the aforementioned
districts.

8. Impact
Coronavirus shutdowns all over India has put the country into crisis-mode,
prompting a massive rescue spending in an effort to cushion the blow by the
second wave of Covid-19 in India. Uttarakhand, one of the most adversely affected
states, needs immediate medical assistance and in particular the hilly districts,
because of their remote location.
Although, Project Samvedna is a relatively small scale fundraiser and initially
focuses on the worst affected districts; Gradually, we intend to expand our scope
and cater to as many districts possible.
However small the contribution, we believe that through this humble assistance we will be
able to support the district administration in helping the patients in home isolation.
