Pitch:
FOR MY FINAL MAJOR PROJECT I HAVE CHOSEN TO MAKE A SHORT FILM.
My film will be a zombie film, which i find a very appealing genre. I have taken a lot of inspiration
from TV shows like The walking dead or films like Shaun of the dead or dawn of the dead.
The zombie genre is a massive theme at the moment and is continuing to expand into Xbox games
and comic books.
The story of my film will be a woman who lives in a safe house by herself and takes in any survivors
who need help. As the film progress we can see that this women is very twisted and we find out that
her husband died through a zombie attack. This is what the audience is lead to believe until we see
this women killing a survivor and taking there body parts down to the cellar where her dead
husband is chained up.
I aim for my to be very suspenseful through the use of diegetic and non-diegetic music which will fit
my film very well.
One main aspect of my film that I will have to focus on is the make-up of the zombies. The makeup
has to be very realistic and very successful or the film its self wont look and be very good. I have to
make sure that you can tell the zombies apart from the actual living humans. I can use wax to make
it look like the skins coming away from their face like there decaying and artificial blood to make
deep cuts in the zombies faces.
The target audience for my film will older teenagers to young adults because through my research I
have found out that many zombie shows attract that target audience. My film will be aimed at all
ethnicities due to the fact I will use more than one ethnicity in my short film to show that there’s no
discrimination.
To meet my target audience’s needs I will use all the typical code and conventions you find in a
zombie film, from using a lot of blood such as cuts or people being killed. My audience will also
expect to see at least one zombie will seems very obvious but like I said before I’ll have to focus a lot
on the makeup. They will also expect a lot of suspenseful moments which mine will feature such as
when we find out this woman’s keeping her dead husband in her cellar and feeding him.
My short film will feature many different camera angles such as extreme close ups to show the
reaction of the characters and the facial emotions. There will also be long shots medium shots which
adds a range of shots to my film. I will also use adobe premiere and adobe after effects to put my
film together and to make sure it runs properly.
