17. Topics will be deviated from
frequently.
Tangents may become nested (one
inside another, inside another,
etc.). 1
Tangents are welcomed from
everybody.
Those who take tangents get the
most from this class.
If I go on a tangent, or a string of
tangents, believe me… it has a
purpose even if you’re convinced
there isn’t.
19. Knowledge Survey
Let’s look at some of the
course topics and gauge
just how comfortable you
are with them before
taking the class.

21. You will see slides like this that represent
our in-class business simulation.
Many of our activities and assignments
are based on the back-story of
The DyscFunctional Group.
22. You begin with the company as an Intern.
Knowing the company’s name and back story is
pretty vital.
Let’s start with the name!
DyscFunctional… not Dyscfunctional, not Disk
Functional, not DiscFunctional, or any other
permutation.

24. Background
Founded in the early 1990s as DyscFunctional Records, a small
independent label for hard rock, metal, and grunge music.
Only offered CD releases even while cassette tapes were the
predominant medium.
Sales declined as early as the late 1990s as the momentum shifted
even more in the favor of rap and hip hop. By the 2000s the
company was showing signs of decline.
Based on the company’s early adoption philosophy (grunge genre,
CD technology), the owners decided around 2010 to “pivot” and
become a multimedia conglomerate with a new name.
