2. THE PROBLEM
I belong to one of the most populated countries on the
globe, India. With a population upwards of 1.2 billion
people, the unemployment rate is expected to rise to a
9.4% from a present high of 9.3%. Women are worse
affected than men. Shifting out focus to a global level,
the youth unemployment rate in the US is at 17% here
Europe is at a far worse condition. Youth is defined to be
the age group of 15-24.
I have myself witnessed various instances of young
people surviving on low paying activities like hawking
magazines and clothing's. There is another huge chunk
of about 30% of casual workers who are unpaid for their
jobs for long durations.
3. Brain drain is a common phenomenon when
looked over from a regional point of view. It is
common to see people from states like Bihar &
Jharkhand moving to Delhi or Mumbai in search
for job opportunities. Huge pool of people from
Nepal, with a unemployment rate of 46%,
illegally travel to India in search for jobs. More
than 75 million youth worldwide are looking for
work. One in five young adults in Britain is
unemployed.
As quoted by Jose Eduardo , “ There is no magic
wand that can resolve our problems. The solution
rests with our work and discipline”. To address
4. this problem, we need to look at the very heart of
it. Like housing came down when supply exceeded
demand, same is true for the workforce.
Studying is a great investment of time and money
but to what level. As much has globalization and
emerging companies have put some companies out
of business, many new opportunities have been
born. Then why do these not reach us to make a
difference at the grass root level? What if we can
create a medium where people can not only access
what has been designed for them but also create
new products that they need.
5. SOLUTION
Confucius said,” Choose a work you love, and you will
never have to work a day in your life”. How many of us
really do things that we are passionate about? How
many of us have friends or colleagues we share our
passions with and can work as a team? How many
NGO’s are really able to utilize their resources in the
most efficient manner to impact at the grass root level?
The concept of a shampoo sachet was born for the
people at the Bottom of Economic Pyramid. How many
such products designed for the BOP ever reach them?
An estimated 2.4 Billion people are internet users today
and are proliferating everyday.
6. The use of this medium has become so addictive and
convenient that the global economy is largely impacted
and dependent on it. A huge pool of social activists and
workers wonder if the money they donate is put to the
right use. I wish to utilize this medium to create a
platform to connect this huge pool of people who can
work collaboratively and grow together. I am talking
about redefining the complete scenario of mentoring.
This platform will have two faces to it. One we call is the
Needy & the other, The Angel. Needy is the people who
are looking for work and opportunities. Angels are
people who are ready to contribute in any manner, be it
their skills and time, charity, mentors, etc.
7. On one side, we are talking about creating the largest
online NGO network which connects you directly with
the needy or affected throughout the globe. On the
other, creating a social network where people can find
other people based on similar character traits and
interests. It often hits my mind, if Larry Page & Sergey
Brin hadn't met, there would have been no GOOGLE
today. These two were simply interested in doing similar
things and when they did those together, the whole
world saw.
One might have a brilliant idea and maybe looking for a
person in some region of China or Mexico with a coding
skill to bring the idea to life. Without any such platform it
is almost impossible to do it unless you have huge funds
available. The unemployed are using their skills to create
8. self employment through collaborative working. By
creating Transparent Governance Control, a clear step by
step system showing how your charitable money is
being used to create jobs or fund entrepreneurial ideas
worldwide. You might want to give free or subsidized
Spanish Classes to really curious people or people who
are collaborating with others across borders and might
need it urgently. Even that is accounted for social work.
Someone might have the money and wants to invest in
Mexico but has no idea of where he can possibly invest.
He can just log on and check for great startups looking
for funds and can directly connect them and see if it
works. The startups can be mentored online directly by
the people who have past experiences or knowledge
9. and are willing to work for a productive cause. You will
be able to sell, donate, collaborate and search every kind
of skill, resource or talent and create magic out of it. You
probably never thought about it but some ‘x’ number of
multilingual people can possible form a company for
teaching the highest number of languages at a single
platform on the web where both the parties are not only
benefitted but create huge impact on employment rate.
With this tool in hand, the globe will be more connected
than ever. We can put to effective use our most
unproductive skills and create value.
10. Results
The solution needs professional mentoring and angel
funds for its implementation. It will require a team of
people with expertise in different skills from financial to
technical. More than 1/3 of global population has
internet access and a huge pool of millions among these
is unemployed youth. In U.S. alone its 4 million and
another 1 in Britain. It will slowly encompass the entire
youth around the globe who can search for global
opportunities, people and various other modes of
employment on this platform. With a little advice &
direction from the experienced, these unemployed
youth will take the world by awe.
