Mine, Stella, Sophie & Arron's Mise en scene presentation

1. This scene in Scary Movie 5 includes many household kitchen utensils used as props.
It signifies a household kitchen which tells us what the set is. The filer light focuses
our attention on the kitchen worktop that the man is leaning over. The characters
costumes show it is nigh time and connotes he has been awoken. The proxemics of
the characters convey that one character is scared and the other is intrigued to find
out what has happened. We can also tell that the characters have a relationship
through their comfortable stance towards each other.

2. The denotation of this scene shows a child’s bedroom. We can tell this from the crib, neutral
colours and the props such as the teddy bears. We can also see a woman on the floor. The
lighting is natural because it looks as if its coming in through the window, however its also
positioned well to draw our attention to the woman on the floor.

3. In this scene, we can denote that is the entrance to the house by there being a front door.
There is natural light in this scene as we can see the door being opened up and a ray of light
down where the black man’s legs are. The proxemics of the characters are very close
together, connotating that they uncomfortable around each other. The costumes of the
characters are that of a typical average American family. The props in this scene include a
camcorder and that is it. The setting includes typical household furniture. Which shows us
that they are in a home.

4. Looking at this scene, firstly looking at the lighting, it’s low-key, and the light is coming
from the background. There is no key-light on the actors face, so that the attention is
more on the background, signalling something is about to happen. The props used
include a mobile phone, a book, remote control, numerous chairs and lights. Costume
wise, she is wearing fairly basic, casual clothes, and natural make up. Which tells us she
is comfortable.

5. In the last scene that we have analysed, we can denote that this is some sort of experiment.
This is shown by the use of the props in the scene, like the briefcase and the equipment the
actor is holding. There is low-key background lighting, by using filler lights. This gives the
appearance of a house in the evening due to the lack of natural light. The proxemics of the
characters shows they know each other however, they’re all looking to the 2 characters in the
middle that are doing the experiment which connotes they are nervous.
