7. Cross-Cultural Comparisons
This helps teams to understand various cultural factors
and the implications for their projects when designing
for different culture
9. Objective: Cultural Probes
To collect and evaluate perceptions and behaviors
within or across cultures. This help identify unrecognized
needs and motivation to invent new inspiring design
identifiable across both culture.
10. Shadowing
Tag along with your teammates to observe and
understand their day-to-day routines, interactions
and contexts. Look out for patterns in their behavior,
lifestyle,etc...
11. How to find out what
people do?
1. Follow them around, and become one of them
2. Get them to tell you what they do
- Directly (conversations)
- Through their “stuff” (artifacts)
3. Used various techniques
- Silent observations
- self-reporting with still cameras, audiocassette
recorders, diaries
- Collect “rich descriptions” of your observations
12. Things to take note
Sometimes its difficult to follow people around
- Intrusion changes their behaviors
- Self-awareness when being watched
- Its often difficult for people to articulate what they
do in their daily life
