2. Recorder Lapbook Instructions
Page 1 in this file is the cover. Students fill in their name and
class and decorate the cover.
Page 3 contains 2 charts. On the first chart, the left side
specifies the type of note and the top line specifies the beat.
Each box is worth one beat. The student’s task is to fill in the
chart with each rhythmic value. For example, draw a whole note
in box one and extend a line to box four. To complete the eighth
note example, the student must fill in two barred eighth notes
to complete one beat. Likewise, four sixteenth notes per box.
The second chart asks the student to draw the rhythmic
symbol, define it, list the number of beats the note receives, fill
in the syllable (tah, ti-ti, etc.), and draw the corresponding rest.
Page 4 is a fingering chart that the student completes by
coloring the appropriate circles on the recorder. They also write
in the note name.
The staff is available to practice drawing a treble clef, time
signature, and note names.
Page 6 is a note tree broken down to sixteenth notes.
The contents of this lapbook can be arranged in any way inside
the book.
