1. This is who I am….
Greetings to all,
My name is Carlos D. Carletos, and I am currently in my third
semester within the Health and Human Performance Doctoral
Program. As an educator for over twenty years, the majority of my
professional experience has come within the urban educational
environment. Previously I have served in both the instructional and
administrative capacity, specializing in the Reading and Language Arts
content areas.
Away from school (work), I have always possessed an affinity for
coaching kids while promoting physical activity and its benefit to the
youth. This passion is what eventually led to my professional transition
approximately two years ago from a general education teacher to my
current position of Health and Physical Education instructor. I instruct
over four hundred and eighty elementary school kids each week at
Kindezi Gideons Elementary in Atlanta. I also serve as the head coach
for our school football and basketball teams.
2. My latest research paper was…
(Neuromuscular Fatigue During Resistance Training in the Adult Population)
As a health and physical education instructor and coach, this topic closely impacts my profession,
because my primary responsibility as a coach is to provide all students and others within the
community the appropriate health and physical education knowledge and training which they can
utilize currently and within their future endeavors. The literature analysis presented various studies
which both identified and reviewed neuromuscular fatigue and how those mechanisms respond
during resistance exercise. The information presented within the review greatly expanded my
knowledge on the topic and allowed me to provide exposure to my students with additional
information regarding this specific component of resistance training that may be of great
importance in their lifetime as it relates to physical fitness.
3. If I could choose a research topic today it
would be…
(Demographic and socioeconomic disparity in nutrition and exercise)
Of the many health issues that I would seek to research, one of the most intriguing is the topic of
“disparity in nutrition and exercise” with the poorer or lower socio economic populations. Based on
my professional and personal experiences, it has always seemed as if the more “poorer the
community” the more “unhealthy the community”. Why does this seem to be the reality which I
have experienced, in particular within many of the areas that I have served.
4. Presentation experience and course
expectations…
I have extensive experience speaking within the school setting on topics ranging from the
importance of building relationships with students to the need for developing a better
understanding of your student population.
During this course, I hope to gain insight into how exercising, specifically the types and frequency
of such exercise, can be affective in the prevention and management of diseases.
