2. Blog Reflection PE
Through out the unit I have come to understand the significance of teaching
physical education in primary school settings. Physical education does not simply
means to do be involved in some physical activity. There is rules and strategies ,
game sense and movement education. From the literature in this unit , I have come
to understand that students sometimes withdraw from physical activity , not
because they are not interested or just because they do not want to participate.
They do that because of their life style and the fact that most of students lack the
knowledge of physical literacy and they lack the knowledge of the basic
fundamental skills of movements (Barnett, Hardy, Lubans, Cliff, Okely, Hills, &
Morgan, 2013). This will make them less confident to participate because of the
pressure of not being good enough to compete with their peers or just the
embarrassment of not doing the right moves when they are asked to. Therefore, as
a future educator it is a duty of me to ensure that all students are confident enough
to participate in all physical activities at school. this will be true by providing them
with the right knowledge and understandings of both physical literacy and
movement education.
3. Blog Reflection PDH
As most of my peers prior to this unit , I thought that teaching Primary PDH is going to be
very easy and does not need any efforts or resources. However, through out the unit I have
completely changed my perspectives. Now I am more aware that PDH education is very
significance and essential for teaching primary students about their health and well being.
To do this we have to provide them with the right knowledge and understandings for them
to lead a healthy lifestyle. This will be true by using a wide range of resources that
correlates with the outcomes of the Australian Curriculum and the Syllabus for teaching
Primary PDHPE. Teaching primary students about health and personal development will
enable them to be resilient, have a strong sense of self and effective community members
which will make them have a positive relationships with everyone around them. This will
enhance their decision making in relation to their health and physical education
participation and will enable them to influence their parents and family members to be
follow an active life style (ACARA, 2012). Throughout the literature, lectures and tutorial
activities for this unit I have come to realise that to be an effective PDH teacher I have to
reflect on my past and current experiences of body education(McMahan and Huntly,
2013)and to continue on reflecting and learning new skills that will fit new and changing
contexts within the primary PDHPE .
