3. COOPERATIVE SYSTEMS
 Throughout his presentation, Carl Casale supported his line of
reasoning using data from a study carried out by consulting firm
Ernst & Young. Commissioned by CHS, the report aimed to
assess the company’s impact on the U.S. economy. Over the
course of the study, Ernst & Young analyzed an assortment of
company data from fiscal year 2014, including earnings,
employment records, and capital expenditures, among others.
The results of the study showed that the company’s economy
activity contributed, directly and indirectly, to the creation of
60,700 jobs. Since CHS employs only 12,100 workers, this
means that the company provides a significant job multiplier
effect. Furthermore, the report also revealed that CHS economic
output positively affects other U.S. businesses, with an additional
$600,000 indirectly generated for every $1 million made by the
cooperative.
