5. The QUESTION Karl Marx said: “Religion is the opiate of the masses”. He sees religion or cultural values as an ideology that controls the minds of people , in such a way that they are disempowered, or that it has a negative impact on their lives and yet that they are falsely satisfied with their disempowerment and may even think that it is a good thing or the right way to be. Find your own example that can demonstrate that Marx’s belief that religion , a traditional belief, cultural practiseor event in history may indeed work like an ideology that disempowers the believer while making the believer satisfied with his or her disempowerment.
