Huawei projects P8 success on Zambian marketHuawei projects P8 success on Zambian market
HUAWEI Technologies says there is need to bridge the gap between the European markets and Africa as
consumers in the latter are advanced and technologically ready to receive the latest products and
services.
Huawei director for retail operations and open market distribution in East and Southern Africa, Cameron
Perumal, said consumers in the African market were ready to receive the worlds latest ICT products at
the same time as European consumers owing to impressive growth.
We believe we need to bridge the European, UK markets and Africa collectively. My vision is that we
bridge that gap so that we dont launch products three to four months, six, eight months after those
markets. Our consumers are ready; we are technologically advanced and ready to receive that product,
Perumal said in an interview on the sidelines of the official launch of the Huawei P8 Smartphone in Africa
at Johannesburgs Country Club last week.
He said the P8 Smartphone, which would simultaneously be rolled out in the Zambian market this month, was projected to do well on
the market given the impressive consumer feedback of its predecessor, the P7.
In the Zambian market, the P7 has done tremendously well. We believe that consumers had a great introduction to the Huawei
offering. And I believe that with the P8, we are really going to make headway in the Zambian market, he added.
The P8 is the worlds best phone when it comes to inspiring creativity. I have worked with the Zambian market for the last three
years and I love the market; it is such a growing, vivid market. The consumer is very advanced in the Zambian market from other
countries in comparison.
Perumal added that Huaweis key marketing strategy would be to engage Zambian consumers in experiencing the handset as it was
rolled out on the market.
Once consumers experience it, we will be on an aggressive drive to put that product in retail, said Perumal.
The P8 handset specifications include an Android 5.0 operating system, knuckle sense technology, 13 megapixel main camera,
which can take the perfect selfie and will be available on the local market for a retail recommended price of around K4,500.
